Hello. I have a 3.75, 30Q MCAT and am not URM. My TMDSAS GPA is 3.65/3.55. I interviewed at UT-Houston, TT-Lubbock, TT-El Paso, UT-San Antonio, and Texas A&M. So yes it is possible to get interviews at those places with 3.7/30. I have been accepted to A&M and am waiting for Feb 1 to see if I match to either UT-Houston or UT-SA.

It seems like the UT schools look at the typical application components. EC's, clinical experience, MCAT/GPA, and non-medical service. UT-Southwestern likes applicants with research...and I think UTMB is trying to improve their research program from what I've heard.

When you are applying to Texas schools, don't forget to apply to all of them. It makes no sense to fill out the TMDSAS and not check the boxes for A&M and the Texas Tech Schools. There are too many fools out there who fill out the entire TMDSAS just to apply to UT-Houston UT-Southwestern. That's not smart unless you have shoo-in numbers. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to include TCOM if you want.

While it may seem it is getting more competitive, that is just because there are more applications going out each year. The mean GPA/MCAT scores at each school have only slightly increased over the years (except maybe UTSW) and there have been some dips in there as well. The stats that you provided would definitely be competitive at most texas schools, including the UT schools. What would make you or break you would be your EC activities, clinical experience, personal statement, etc.

I would say research most certainly helps, but is not absolutely necessary for houston, san antonio and galveston. San antonio seems to be the school that looks at the "whole" application and takes more than stats into consideration when compared to the other schools. Hope this helps.

The most important question was one you didn't answer/nobody asked:

Are you a Texan?

If so, yeah, you can do it. MCAT is a little low but you'll get interviews. If not, it is harder.

you can for sure get in! I got pre-matched to UT SA and only have a 28S MCAT and 3.66 gpa (3.52 science)

Texas resident does seem to tbe the key here.

If i may, go to their site and look at their latest admission stats - also look at TMDSAS http://www.utsystem.edu/tmdsas/ if i remember they give stats on how many non-residents are typically admitted.

THOSE are what gve me hope for UTHSC San Antonio!

The Texas state medical schools are required by law to enroll at least 90% Texas residents. So if you're an out-of-state applicant, you will be facing relatively stiffer competition.

I'm a Texan, but I went out of state for college. I think my GPA will be higher than that, but I have no idea how I'll do on the MCAT. I would prefer to go to any of the UT schools or A&M.

I think as long as you put a Texas residential address as your home and fill out their questions correctly you will still be considered a texas resident.
