greetings, friends:

got a lease signed at Whispering Creek with another gal going to UTSCHSHAHSHASCA. checked the place out and it seemed pretty cool, except i couldn't find said whispering creek. oh well. i should be moving down around the 22nd of June. i second neil's motion to have a little get-together down there before orientation starts. we're going to be living in san antonio - let's find some damn good margaritas. knowing what's ahead, i think we'll need it.

🙂 Di

I grew up in San Antonio, and lived here most of my life. If you do decide on a little get together before school starts, I would be happy to be a tour guide of sorts. I can show you around the Alamo, Riverwalk, or whatever you want to do. There is a lot of great Mexican food along the Riverwalk.

By the way, have any of you guys been following the Spurs? They are in the finals. I think they will win it in 7. GO SPURS GO!!!

Jeff

Hell yea... I'm following the Spurs. I've been a fan for years now... and after going to school in California for 4 years, I could not be happier to see the Lakers on an extended vacation and a team from Texas in the finals.

But anyways... I'm off to Cali for a two week trip starting on Tuesday, and I'll be moving in to my apartment in San Antonio on the 17th. We will plan this get together out, and the I know of a couple places that have really good margaritas out there. But we may not need my opinion seeing that we will have our own tour guide from the post before.

My email is [email protected] and I would post my cell number, but I'm changing it in a couple of days. But yea, post your info on here so we can get together once we all move in.

One more month... I'm getting pretty damn anxious.

Later,

Neil

Hey everybody,

Well I'm now officially a resident of San Antonio. I have the electric bill to prove it. Oh, and the first rent check was written today. So far my apartment complex (Saddle Ridge) looks to be a really nice place -- no complaints so far. Got out and drove around some today...found a big Walmart Supercenter not far from here (four miles or so). Anyways, yeah, I'm getting excited, nervous, anxious too! Just twenty-something days left before our lives change! (or at least our routines).

Put me down for a margarita-grande!

Kevin.

😎

Hi guys.
Put me down for a 'rita too! My email is [email protected] if you guys have a get together before school starts.

Megan

mmm margaritas...*salivates*

why dont we go to the Riverwalk? let's introduce ourselves to san antonio with style.

Count me in for the ritas! email me at [email protected]. I will be in SA starting June 14. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey, how's it going? A friend just told me about this forum, and I was happy to see this thread.

My name is Ron, and I will also be at UTHSCSA next year. I just graduated from UT-Austin, and I'm from Plano (10 miles north of Dallas).

I just got a 2/2 at The Lodge; not too sure if anyone's heard anything about it, but it's close to the school. Even more important, it's next door to a Wendy's (talk about a meal plan).

---------------

Quick horror story for you: I found my roommate on the roommate list. Today, when the rent was due, he told me he's pulling out of the lease and going to another med school.
So, on a side note, if anyone knows someone who still needs a roommate, have them call me at 512-296-3380. Not too big a deal though, I have a friend who would be willing to take the lease. He works at USAA and was planning to commute from Austin to San Antonio.

-----------------

Anyway, nice meeting you guys, keep me updated on your Riverwalk trip.

Welcome to our little group, Ron. See ya in a few weeks!

I happen to be looking for a roommate for UTSA this upcoming year, so if you know anyone who is interested, post or PM me their info so I can get in touch with them. I'm more budget oriented than anything else, so hit me up if you know anyone. I am an incoming male dental student, who intends to study really hard. Looking for non-smoking, no pets, 600-800 total rent per month.

thanks!

Sounds like everbody wants margaritas. Mi Tierra in Market Square downtown has pretty good margaritas.

There are a variety of things to do in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, depending on how much money you want to spend:

Free/cheap (<$20): Riverwalk, Alamo, Market Square, Tower of the Americas, Hiking, Tubing in New Braunfels (about 30-45 minutes from SA).

Expensive (>$40): Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and Schlitterbahn (also in New Braunfels)

The riverwalk is very scenic with lots of restuarants (us San Antonians love to eat), the Alamo is interesting for the history, Market Square has shops and restaurants, the Tower provides a nice view of the entire city, hiking is good for exercise, and tubing is a way to kick back on the river with some rapids mixed in. If you are willing to spend the money, Schlitterbahn is awesome.

Just some ideas of diversions to have some fun before school starts.

Jeff

So let's set a date! How does June 20th ~8 for margaritas at Mi Tierra work for everyone?

M

could we do it later? i dont get into town until the wednesday before the white coat ceremony.

Here's an idea:

How about we meet at Mi Tierra for dinner and margaritas on Thursday the 26 of June?

On the next day, Friday the 27, my wife and I were planning on going tubing along the Comal river in New Braunfels. Anybody who wants to come along is welcome to join us.

Jeff

jsmd -

Thursday, 6/26 works for me. Just let us know the time. Thanks for taking the lead on this!

Sicily

Count me in too guys......Thursday sounds great. That restaurant has gotten great reviews from what I've read. Oh, and I know another classmate who's coming into town a few days before then so I'll pass along the "going out for margaritas" information to him and his wife as well...

Everyone got the latest registration information in the mail right? Anybody else gonna get their student i.d./parking permit done before the 29th? I might go on over there today and see if I can get that taken care of.

see everyone soon!
Kevin.

Do any of you know where I can find a class schedule throughout our four years. I'd like to know how busy this summer is going to be, and if we get any sort of break between the summer session and the fall semester. Also, do any of you know how long the break is after M1? I'm wondering if it'll be just another month or if we'll get to have the entire summer off. Thanks in advance...

Someone posted the class schedule fur this summer a few posts back...
I believe the summer between first and second year is only like a month to 6 weeks. I could be wrong and it could be longer though.

Hello everbody:

Regarding the get together we have been talking about:

How does 7:00 p.m. Thursday June 26 at Mi Tierra sound? Again, the restuarant is located Downtown in Market Square.

Jeff

Hey guys.. I just got back in town from my trip out to Cali. I'm moving out there this Tuesday, so count me in for Thursday at 7 @ Mi Tierra...

neil

Oh yea.. I don't know if you guys are already shopping around for equipment, but the best prices I found were on the web at:

www.reddingmedical.com

So check it out if you guys haven't already...

neil

A big "WELCOME to San Antonio" for all you guys who've been moving in the past few days. I've been here for a couple or three weeks now and am glad to be here! The heat index of 104 degrees right now as I write this is even becoming more and more tolerable. Anybody else get their ID's and/or parking permit done yet? I did, and got the first couple of books to start reading (or at least checking out the pictures 🙂 ) The library seems like a pretty quiet place to read and/or sleep...they have comfy chairs.

Hope to be at the get-together on Thursday.

Kevin.

Sounds like we are set to go. Now we just need a way to ID each other, since none of us have ever met.

I will try to get there about 6:45 and will be wearing a grey Spurs T-shirt. I will be with my wife and son. So, just look for a guy in a grey Spurs T-shirt with a lady and a baby.

If there is going to be a crowd (which is very possible) I will put us down for a table. It will be under UT-Medical. Counting the responses, I will try to get us a table for 8-10 people. If you get there late, just ask a waiter or hostess for the UT-Medical table.

If anybody needs directions, let me know, otherwise, I will see you all on Thursday night!

Jeff

Jeff,

I'll take you up on your offer for directions. I've driven around downtown a couple of times, but maybe you could give the easiest way there? Also, I'll be bringing along another new student and his wife, so that makes three right there if you've got a count going or something.

See ya Thursday,
Kevin.

Hi, guys. I'll be there Thursday, along with another student and friend. Looking forward to it.

Kevin - I also went to school the other day and got my ID and parking permit. When you see my ID, it may remind you of the FBI's Most Wanted posters you see at the post office.

See ya Thursday!

Here are some directions to Mi Tierra:

It seems that most of you are coming from the Medical Center area. Get on I-10 East. You can get to I-10 from Medical Dr. or Wurzbach. Take I-10 East to downtown. As you approach dowtown, I-10 will merge with I-35. At that point, the highway will split into upper and lower levels. Stay on the upper level (so stay to the right). Soon after that you will see the exit for Santa Rosa/Downtown. Take that exit. The road for Santa Rosa will veer off to the left, so stay to the right on the access road. Stay on the access road until you come to Dolorosa (about three or four lights after you exit). Take a left on Dolorosa. The very first light on Dolorosa is San Saba. The restuarant is located at San Saba and Dolorosa. There is a La Quinta hotel across the street.
Again, the area is called Market Square.

As for parking, there is parking all around the area. There is also Market Square parking: take a left at the next light after San Saba (Commerce St.), then take the first left on Commerce St. There will be signs directing you to Market Square parking (stay to your left).

I hope this is not too confusing for anybody. If you happen to get lost, feel free to call me on my cell phone: (210) 383-7609

According to my count, we are around 10. I will try to get a table for 10 - 12. See you there.

Jeff

Just got back from vacation in Boulder. Hope it's not too late to hop on board for dinner tomorrow night.

I'm moving down to The Lodge tomorrow during the day so I'll be there with my moving crew (2 friends from Austin).

Looking forward to meeting you guys tomorrow,
Ron

Ron:

Its not too late if you want to join us. 👍 The more the merrier! I look forward to meeting you and everbody else tomorrow night.

Jeff

Did any of you get a call from the financial aid office saying that we had to go to some website about managing our finances? I got a call yesterday, but I lost the piece of paper with the web address on it...do any of you have that? Also, have any of you bought your equipment yet? I wanted to wait until my loan money came in, but I don't know if that's too late (I wanted to do it on the internet). Thanks in advance...jeez, gotta start studying in a couple more days.

The website is www.mapping-your-future.org

It details your rights/responsiblities as a recipient of financial aid. It has a little quiz at the end that you have to complete.

Jeff

I got an "URGENT" e-mail from the Financial Aid Office this morning that said that I had to complete the questionaire/test at the mapping-your-future.org website and turn it in TODAY to their office. I did so, and the lady there made the comment that there are going to be a lot of disappointed MS-I's come Monday when they find out that they're checks aren't going to be released since they haven't done the "entrance interview" at that website. She said that about half the incoming class hasn't done that yet. Maybe they're like me and didn't know about it? Hmmm....but anyways, if you read this and you haven't done it, you might wanna give them a call and see what's up.

Oh, and it was nice to meet those of you who came to the get-together last night at Mi Tierra. To those of ya who missed it, you shoulda been there!

Kevin.

Hey, how was everyone's first day of orientation? I think I can sum it up by saying that it was one long day.

I had a quick question ... what are you guys doing in terms of local telephone service and cable (either modem or TV).

-- Ron

roadrunner has a great deal going on right now for cable internet...$29.95/mo for the first six months and the installation's free.
