UTAH Acceptance?!?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips moe_4eva, I went to a talk by Dr Samuelson today about the personal statements😀 Anyone else was at the AED talk today?

btw, Dr Samuelson said he has been busy signing letters today so those of you waiting might be getting some more news soon.

he he I was there too. After the meeting there were some premeds who were trying to brown nose/impress him as they followed him out to his car. Silly premeds

Last year the rejections were sent in a normal-sized envelope, while the acceptances were sent in a larger manilla envelope. However, my acceptance this year was in a normal envelope, so you never know...

As a side note, I posted this question in the allo forum, but no one checks that, so I'll post it here: Does anyone know where I could find the first year schedule? Also, the holidays/breaks that we get?

thanks moe_4eva!
i found last year's calendar for first years but not the schedule:
http://medicine.utah.edu/medicaleducation/calendars/freshman.htm
they used to have the schedule posted on umed.med.utah.edu or maybe it was on the school of medicine website but it requires a password now. eitherway i couldn't find the schedule

HEY! I resent that!! I check it - just have no info to add (aka being as neurotic as any other guy in here). I wish current med students from the U were on here. I've got some day-to-day questions I'd like to ask, but it seems like there are only about 6 pre-meds on here to talk to the U about..

Has anybody gotten their mail today yet?

I won't be able to check till this evening.... but do you think it would arrive today (if the desitination was for Salt Lake City) if they were able to mail them out yesterday???

I work for various people in salt lake and live in salt lake. Often these people will mail me a check for my work in the afternoon and I receive it the very next day. So, I think that it could be today if they were mailed yesterday.

Although I guess this is just wishful thinking. I bet Dr. Samuelson just says these things knowing that they will go straight to SDN and then we will all writhe in agony for days as we wait for letters that aren't coming out. (Wow, this whole med-school thing is turning me into a paranoid freak)

i hope the mail is speedy today (even with the random snow)!

yah i know what you mean about turning into a paranoid freak and becoming neurotic. i've checked SDN tooooo many times this week.

but on the bright side... in less than a week we should all know where we'll be in august... unless you're put on the waitlist (which would just prolong the torture lol) 😀

In less than a week? I hope so, I can't take it anymore. And speaking of paranoid, the worst situation to have is working at a job that has lots of downtime (and the internet) in your year off, while you have to wait 6 months after your interview to find out if you're accepted to the school. AND, when the letters do go out it'll be awful because you all will know and I'll have to wait an extra 3 days since I'm sitting here in Indiana.😱

If the U is a no go? I was accepted to five DO schools as well and narrowed my choice down to OUCOM. I'm on the waitlist at one other MD school, so that might pan out as well. I'm not very excited about going to OUCOM however. Not that it's not a great school, but it requires a 5 year contract to practice in Ohio for out-of-staters. Granted the contract will also be fulfilled with a residency in Ohio (of which their are some outstanding residency opportunities) and I may get a scholarship to cover tuition for all four years, but the prospect of being away for so long is nerve racking. I'm really hoping the U pulls through.

The trout fishing in Ohio sucks, as I am sure you know. Good luck with Utah.

That's what I hear. I don't want to go without flyfishing for that long!

Please let there be some news today! I can't go on like this anymore. I just want a yes or a no. If I get put on the wait list I'm going to crawl into bed and lay there until august.

Well, nothing in my mail today. Maybe tommorow, or some time next week, or maybe the week after that, or maybe sometime in May, almost certainly before the new year.

awwww really!! not in the mail today! gee i'm gonna have to find something to do this weekend to keep my mind off of this. rockband has a bunch of new songs to download... so i guess i can do that. oh and... i have a few midterms next week lol i guess i'll be studying too

they do have their last adcom meeting on Monday so... who knows what is going on. maybe those letters that he was signing was just some of the decision letters.

Hello Folks,

I'm a first-time poster, but I've been reading this board for a while now. I haven't received a letter, but I checked the website where I did my secondary and interview information and there it was in all its glory: a new section to fill out called Acceptance Information. I clicked on it and it said:

"You have been accepted to the University of Utah School of Medicine. In order to complete the admissions process we need some additional information from you."

If you can't wait for the letter, log on to the admissions website!

Well nothing on my page for me. I guess that probably means I'm getting a rejection or wait list. Everybody be sure to post what you see.

I was thinking that maybe something was gonna be posted on that site.. but then I really didn't think they would make it that easy!

So I just checked mine... and I had THE section on my profile!!!!!!!!!!!! wooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got in!

I checked and no new "accepted section." I hope this doesn't reflect those potential acceptances they could give out this monday. (It's not over till its over)

First time poster here, I had the acceptance link on my site too!

i agree.
they still have their last meeting on Monday. 🙂

Does anyone have the address for the secondary website? I am out of town and I only have it bookmarked on my home computer. Thanks

nada for me...Ah!

Nothing for me... but I'm OOS, I interviewed on November 2nd (I think...)

REJECTED...)

Those who did not receive a letter of acceptence, and know already from snail mail... what does the application portal website for UTAH display for you?

Thanks, and sorry for bringing up the past

I just had a buddy that was put on the alternate list. Does anybody have any insights into how many are on the alternate list this year?

Also, someone a few posts ago said they wished there were current medical students to answer questions. I'm an M1 this year at the U and, though I won't be able to answer every question, I at least know what the first year is like. Feel free to ask any questions.

I just got the letter in the mail too today

I sure hope there are more acceptances handed out monday. Good luck to all those with no news yet (this is such torture).:scared:

Congrats to those who've heard.

Nothing here either. I wish we knew what rejected students' pages looked like. More unknown and stressing out..

Got the letter in the mail today... Alternate list.

I guess it's better than a rejection, although some closure would be nice after waiting almost 5 months. Guess I'll just keep waiting.
The crappy part is that the letter says they won't say how many are on the list, when I'll hear from them, how active past lists have been or what my ranking is. Could it be any more vague?

If anyone has any info about how to get in from the list, PLEASE fill me in.

Also got acceptance letter in the mail. Look for small envelope, two pages. Good luck!!

Congrats all! I'm way too excited to finally have some more classmates! For those who will be in Utah over the summer, we should definitely get together for a BBQ or something. BYOB(everages) 😉.

Can't the torture end? 🙂

So for those of you who have been put on the alternate list, has your webpage status changed? Also, has anyone been rejected here, and if so, what does your webpage look like? I'd imagine I'll get some sort of letter here on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks for the help!!

If you have a sample schedule of how my days will be spent, that would be much appreciated.

I guess I'm still confused. I had thought I heard that they'd give you an idea of where you are on the waitlist, no????

They have the class schedule on a secure sight so I can't post a link for it. If I remember right, after filling out your acceptance packet, you should be able to access the class schedule. We start in the third week of August (for a week of orientation) then go until the first week in June. Spring Break for us this year was March 24-28. Same as undergrad, no school on holidays, and they usually give us the day before a test off to study. Hope that helps.

Also, in block 1, you are usually in class from 8 or 9am until noon, with 2-3 afternoon classes during the week. In the first block, these are usually anatomy lab dissections, but you also have Social Medicine, Physical Diagnosis, or just additional lectures. Block 2 is 9am to noon usually, and Block 3 is 8am to noon nearly every day.

This is what the letter says:
"...we cannot predict when positions will become available, nor can we predict how many candidates on the alternate list will eventually be offered positions. The Admissions Office staff cannot advise you on the likelihood of your eventual acceptance or reveal your position on the alternate list."

Yeah, there's no change on the web page. Looks the same as before.

Although it doesn't appear that I'll be going to the U, can you give any advice for living arrangements. I'll be looking for married housing, but wasn't sure how avaliable/what quality the student housing was. If unavaliable, where's the next best place to look?

Thanks

Also, how is timing for tests? Are there usually individuals who are struggling to finish? Do they enforce timing restrictions, or is it pretty relaxed?

Wow. 👎 Not very encouraging. Thank you for the info, though. Any news for OOS students?
