Hey everyone,

Anybody hear about a University of Utah acceptance yet? Or, about rumors going around regarding when they will let us know? (During my interview they said March, but now I am hearing Dec/Jan from other people). I know there is a thread on this already, but wanted to start a new one...We can use this as a support system for all us hopeful U of Uers waiting to hear from them! Any thoughts, comments, wishes...let us know!! 😀 🙂 😛

I think someone should call them and ask them how many acceptances they have given out so far.

I would but I am afraid they will trace my call and throw away my application (just kidding).

The search function is your friend.

Also, from what I've heard, the very first (and extremely low amounts of) acceptances are given out in dec or maybe even january... I'm very nervous too, but there's still a ways to go.

Nada yet. I'm also nervous, and hopefull, as I got put on "continued status" at my other top choice, UWSOM. I'll post the minute I hear anything.

Thanks for your replies. I plan on posting also as soon as I hear from them. Anyone else out there??? 🙂

Also, when did everyone have their interviews? We can use this as a way to find others from our U of U interview group.

Sept 13th - the first day they even offered them.

For all you SDNers out there who want to know when Utah will start accepting, here is an email I got from their office when I asked.

"[FONT='Arial','sans-serif']We appreciate your interest in the University of Utah School of Medicine. The admissions committee will notify applicants of their decision via U.S. Mail beginning in January."

So it looks like the earliest is Jan. and most of the people there don't get accepted til March.

Thanks! Looks like we all have a bit more waiting to do...good luck everyone!!

They called my boss last week to ask a question about me :scared:

Take home message: Remember that grueling secondary application, listing every single thing you have done for the last three years and will be doing for the next year? Stick to what you said you would be doing and you will be fine.

They wanted to find out the full extent of my patient contact. My boss said they sounded very satisfied with the answer - I hope that is good news 👍

Yeah, I am very surprised that they called one of your recommenders. Do med schools typically do that? And to Concubine's post, this is very true...the dean of admissions reiterated this OVER and OVER again the day of my interview!!

For those of you waiting to hear from Utah, do you plan on sending them any LOIs?

FYI, I was accepted in late November (of 2005). I've talked to a few others in my class who were accepted before March. Not sure what the Admissions Committee is doing these days. I know they're still interviewing tons of candidates, since I'm one of the many MS2's that hosts them for lunch. My last lunch date is March 10th. Good luck everyone! The U is a great school.

Now I'm getting a bit anxious.:luck:

Surprisingly I'm not. Utah is my top choice, but I'm much more worried about my state school because I've just accepted that I won't hear from Utah until March/April.

I have not personally gotten an acceptance yet, but a very good friend of mine did get an acceptance letter in the mail today!!!!!

Whaaa?

Just to be clear.. we are talking about from the U, correct?

Also, does anyone know if letters of intent can help you at the U? I mean from everything I've heard, they're so "by the book" about the process that it wouldn't even matter if you sent update/interest/intent letters to the school, because you would have already been scored after your interview.. if anyone has any insight, I'd be very interested.

ROFL i kept reading the title as UT-AH, I was like there's no AH in Texas or Tennessee...

SCFootball....your friend is probably going to the U right now as an undergrad right?

Yes he is, but I don't think that really makes a difference. I am at the U and so are many of my pre-med buddies who interviewed this year. He is a great candidate with 3 other acceptances already. I bet that others will either hear today or tomorrow because like I said the letter was post-marked on the 2nd.

i just got the letter late last night! i interviewed in early october, and I do not go to the U for undergrad.

I think the letters will start to trickle out now, so good luck to the rest of you!! i really really hope you all get in 🙂

and btw, don't let the small, thin envelope scare you!

OMG! Seriously?!? I want a letter too!🙂

For those of you who got one, what state do you live in? (I'm asking because I'm not from UT)

im from utah but i go to school out of state

I'm very jealous. Nada for me and I live in Utah. This is going to be a long wait...Unfortunately, I've been placed on waitlist/alternate list at both other MD schools I've interviewed at.

if you guys dont mind me asking, for those who have gotten in, can you share your stats/ mdapp profile if u have one?

i'm still waiting for a letter too... but i'm out of state, and i don't know if they send out early acceptance letters for out of state applicants?

Also, does anyone think that if we called we could get some sort of idea as to our status?

Interesting to see acceptances coming in after hearing that nothing would be here until March. I haven't heard back myself, but it's nice to know the possibility exists before second-look weekends elsewhere.

i had called sometime in December, and the lady told me that they don't do status updates and that you'd know only when you hear from them. best of luck!

I got a thin envelope in the mail today from the dean of admissions at the U!?! Usually a thin envelope is not good news, but it was! Last year they accepted 50 applicants before March. Who knows if it will be a similar number this year, but you can bet that they will give out the bulk of their acceptances in March.

I'm a senior at BYU (if you couldn't tell by my SDN ID 🙂 ). >30 MCAT. GPA 3.95. I don't think stats at the U are extremely important once you reach their baseline for consideration...at least that's the impression I got from talking to multiple med students and faculty members there.

Good luck to the rest of you. May we all be part of the 2008 entering class next fall.

v. excited! got the mail today! thank you God. this is the only school i've been accepted to too. Good luck to all of you on this thread. I can't wait to meet you guys!

I just got my acceptance as well!!! This is my second time applying, and only applied to 2 schools this year, so it is quite a surprise (especially to find out this early!!). For those of you curious, my stats weren't phenomenal (29 MCAT, 3.89 GPA w/ 3.82 BCPM), although I felt very confident about my interviews.

Even though some contributors to this site didn't think I had a shot at getting in, just shows that perseverance and a desire to actually practice medicine for the right reasons pays off. Best of luck to everyone else on getting those letters!

Congrats on all those with acceptances!
I
s there anyone that received a rejection letter yet though? I hope to hear news for good or for bad so I can make the best, most informed plan for this spring.

Those that were accepted were you state residents? What were your major EC (research, service, tons of clinical, etc) that set you appart?

Hi everyone! Congrats on the acceptances!

Does anyone know what the allowance is for living expenses at the U? (Including housing off campus-not with family, personal, misc., transportation --- basically everything except tuition and books/fees)

I can't find this number ANYWHERE and I'm concerned that they don't provide enough COA budget on which to live. Could someone fill me in (like a current med student), please?

I am a resident. My major EC's were working for the fire department as a FF/EMT for 2 years, a phlebotomist for about 6 weeks (really didn't like that one), and a clinical tech at a trauma center in Colorado. I had a couple of semesters of research through school, although I believe it was my fire fighting and clinical experience that set me apart.

Oh, and Corker, if you ever find out about the COA and wouldn't mind dropping me a PM, I've been curious about that as well.

Hopefully someone will post for us. If I hear anything, I'll let you know. It's a big factor for me.

Oh, to answer the question above...I'm OOS, pretty high GPA, over 30 MCAT (nothing spectacular), total non-trad (which means I had a lot of "life experience" to fill in all those various specific experiences on the secondary.) For most applicants, it wouldn't be very helpful to compare my profile because I'm so non-trad...I'm not saying I'm BETTER, just really different than the typical applicant.

Good luck to everyone. Got my letter on 1/4, I think. Need to look at financial aid, now.
