UTAH Acceptance?!?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just want some kind of answer. Obviously being accepted would be awesome, a waitlist would be the worst (more waiting!!!), and at least with a rejection I can start planning on something else.

I don't know how reliable this is, but I heard from one of my friends who knows someone on the admissions committee that the U is sending out acceptance letters on February 15th. With President's Day on Monday, I would guess that those letters will be arriving to us (hopefully) on Tuesday the 19th. I don't know for sure, but it gives me something to hope for!

Is there any chance that your friend could answer some of the questions that have been posted in regards to this uncharacteristic, earlier than usual acceptance date by the U? IE: Is he sure?????!!!

I have a class with him tomorrow, so I will ask him if he can get any more details. What I have said is all that I know so far though.

It has been said many times that the U accepts the majority of their class in late march/early april. That is not going to change. They may accept a couple of people next week like they accepted some in January, but it is not going to be like "march madness" or whatever. Probably only a handful next week, if that is true.

That said, good luck to everyone. Especially me!

Hey brandpeg! Did you get a chance to ask your friend more about the rumored acceptances Utah will be sending out in Feb.?

Yeah I talked to him. Apparently he hadn't talked to a member of the committee, but overheard someone from the committee say that acceptances would be sent out on the 15th. That was all that he knew. Sorry guys! I hope it's true!

What he overheard could have been that they are going to send out acceptances on MARCH 15, not this weekend. We'll hope for this weekend though!

I wish the U wasn't so freaking secretive about things. At another school I interviewed at, I can call up the admissions office and ask exactly how many acceptances have been give out. I tried the same thing at the U and they acted like I was asking for nuclear secrets or something. Why can't they just tell us?

I got my acceptance last year in March. I seriously doubt that the U will be sending out mass acceptances on February 15th. They are still interviewing applicants (there is an interview group tomorrow), and they wait until all applicants have been interviewed and rated before they set their class (except those few who they accept early).

Here is what is happening (I think)

The U still won't send out mass acceptances till late march/early april.

They may send out a couple on Feb. 15th, just like they sent out a couple in January.

Sorry to be repetitive, but I just don't want to see people get their hopes up for next week and think mass acceptances are coming out.

I expect all those that are possibly accepted next week to post your interview dates, stats, and all other juicy details, aight?😉

Any news (good/bad) anyone from letters sent out on the 15th?

I keep calling home to see if the mail has come yet but she isn't picking up. This is killing me.

Nothing yet, but my mail doesn't usually come until 3:30-4PM.

My mail comes at noon. I'm not in the SLC valley though, so mine may take a day longer. I'll let you all know very soon!😱

My mail comes around 2 or 3, so I hope to hear something!!!

My mail came, but nothing from the U.

I hope it's not a rumor, but if it is, I am sorry that I got everyone's hopes up.

I'm not even in the country right now...I may never find out.

I am a big fan of email or phone notification with a follow-up letter. Wake Forest does it best, pdf of a really nice form letter then a follow-up letter in the mail later on. Phone calls from schools are nice as well.

Oh well....

nada in the mail for me.

Hey guys,

I called the admissions office yesterday and they told me that we might have to wait until the beginning of APRIL now!! Why do they keep pushing it back further and further and further?!?!?!?:scared:😕

AHHHHH! I wish I knew so I could get on with my life!

man i'm glad i am not in your shoes anymore. Just remember to be patient, try not to think about it so much. You guys still have a long way to go potentially. Even if you get waitlisted (like I did) it's not the end of the world.

best of luck to everyone! and feel free to msg me with questions (not having to do with this year's acceptances)

From every year I've heard about, they send out a small number in January, then the rest in March/April, with the rejection letters sent throughout the process. Also, the waitlist is very small from what I understand, as there usually isn't much movement. Good luck though, not too much more time to wait!

I am going to request that everyone keep on the topic of admission to Utah and avoid the discussion of religion. There is the sociopolitical forum available to discuss religious issues, but this forum is primarily concerned with the issue of admissions to medical school.

Thanks,
DP

Any more news from my fellow SDNers? 🙂

The waiting game is getting soooooo olddddd!!!!!:scared:

My cousin who applied to the U got a letter from them today! It is at his parents house so he is going to go and get it as soon as he has a chance. I will let you guys know when he tells me what it says.

I can't figure out why so many people are so upset by discussions of religion on this thread. I'm happy to at least hear some sort of discussion. Let's see, in the last month and half all we've had to talk about is a meaningless financial aid email, an acceptance rumor from a friend of a friend, and the occasional sad news of rejections.

I know what you're saying, "Religion has nothing to do with acceptance at the University of Utah." Nevertheless, there are clearly some people that do believe that it has something to do with getting accepted at the U. So what better place to discuss it than on this thread?

Well, I'll leave it at that lest Dr.Pardi shuts us down. I just hope we can all be accepting of other's opinions and not feel so threatened by those who believe differently. (Wow, that was amazingly preachy of me, wasn't it?).

Oh, Moe4Eva, (I promise I'm done after this) if you want one of those missionary badges, just become a Mormon, and go on a mission. You'll get like 6 badges with your name on them and everything. And when you go, be sure to give your spot at the U to me. Thanks.

That's too bad. I haven't checked my mail yet. Now I am scared to.:scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

Being a Mormon is a pre-req here at the U…just like O Chem, so if you’re not Mormon then I guess you're SOL (that’s Short of Luck, not S**t Out of Luck, remember we are Mormon here), if you aren’t Mormon there is always the BYU School of Osteopathic Medicine, true, it is a Mormon school, but they make exceptions if you are good at sports or if you can speak Mongolian…😀

So, maybe you should start working on your jumpshot or move to Mongolia, anything has to be better than sitting around and waiting to hear whether or not someone’s friend’s, grandma’s, half-sister’s, cousin’s, best-friend’s, dogwalker heard a rumor that a rejection letter was sent out….wow 👎

Do you mind me asking if he was a cougar or a ute? Or neither? Just curious.

I actually bought one of these, so I guess you're short on luck.

Where are you a paramedic at, by the way?

Ok...I am currently a first year, and this is what I know. It's not much but bare with me because honestly I don't really pay close attention to what is going on as far as admissions etc. Word is that there are tons of applicants this year. Many think that this is do to the increase in potential MCAT dates available for one application cycle, so more people were able to make the deadline. They have still been interviewing 3 times a week: Mon/Thurs/Fri and they have had at least 5-7 students/day.

As far as receiving acceptances.....In my class there were a hand full of us that received letters as early as November --> January, but most of the class heard about the third week of March. (It really doesn't matter whether you get it in November or March..just that you get it, right?) If you have received a letter between Jan & March then chances are it is a rejection....I don't make the rules I just observe them. Also, i'm sure there are some exceptions as well. Sorry, I can't be of better help. I'm even more sorry you all have to wait, but it will be worth it in the end. I've loved every minute of it! IF you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Hmmm... That's not exactly the news I wanted to hear. 😱

Thanks for your inside info, though, ScootDoc.

I have been wondering something, but don't think anybody has the answer. But I thought i'd give it a shot.

There have been many people that have gotten rejected already, so

on that "final judgement day" or "march madness", whatever you want to call it, how many people get rejected vs. accepted? 4 to 1? Or have they already rejected so many people that it would be down to like 2 to 1 odds?

Good question, I feel like this is kind of like a reality show and we are making it through elimination round after elimination round. I feel like my odds are improving with no rejection yet but if the odds are still 4 to 1 at getting accepted in March then that blows

I can't tell you where I work. Let's just say that it is for an EMS agency that doesn't make you so proud that you want to wear their T-shirt around town. If you know EMS in Utah, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about.
