UTAH Acceptance?!?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am going to ask that everyone try to avoid any kind of religious debate/controversy here and discuss the topic of Utah acceptances. If that isn't possible this thread will be closed and I will ask users to refer to the various "accepted" threads and other resources for this information.

Thank you,
DP

Please close the thread...who cares about how many LDS applicants there are to Utah and all the other religious garbage being posted on here. Make it stop! please

Why not the State of Utah stats? Because that's not who's applying. So you're telling me if 900 Mormons and 100 non-Mormons applied for 100 spots, 62 Mormons and 38 non- should get the spots? 7% chance vs. 38% chance?

The trib article is irrelevant because the people applying from BYU are more like 100% active and the U population is more likely to be the 41% quoted in the article....so drop my estimate from 80 to 75 and redo the math.

Then you point to the fact that your problem is the low # of women (with which I agree). The U, by your plan, should accept 50% women (that's what is in the state, I presume), even though something like 28% of the applicants are women? Just because they're women?

You're right about the low number of women applicants. That's not the University's problem (if it even is a problem). Culturally in Utah, women are less likely to be willing to dedicate the number of years and money required to become a doctor and thus less applicants.

Not to distract...congrats to those who have been accepted. I hope you will go into primary care and live and work in Utah, where you are needed, no matter where you come from or what beliefs you adhere to.

As I said before, I have no reason to believe that religion (or lack of religion) has anything to do with admissions decisions.

If there's a bias in the admissions committee, it's a bias against narrow-mindedness, parochialism, and extremism in any form....

I did too. Who's going to make the phone call to see if it is significant to acceptance?

I did as well. Already called, they said they send it to everyone regardless of whether you've been accepted or not

Soooo...did anyone who has already been rejected receive the letter?? (just looking at the alternative)

:scared: Oh shiznit, I didn't receive a financial aid email from Utah. Am I doomed for rejection? :scared:

email? what email? this is depressing. For those who did when did u interview?

Got the email as well, but if you didn't I wouldn't stress. I seriously doubt they only send it to people they plan on accepting...

definitely don't read into the email thing! i didn't get one either.

I should have been more clear in my statement regarding my call to the U about the email. They said the email is sent out regardless of whether or not they plan on accepting or rejecting you in the next couple months

Well I will definitely not be attending Utah. In state tuition would have been very nice, but I think I'll be happier elsewhere anyway.

so I didn't get the email and I got my rejection letter yesterday. I think it's great that the U is the only rejection I've received. Good luck everyone.

Sorry about the unfortunate news..

I'm curious as to whether others who got/didn't get the email received any word..

Also, please include approximate interview dates so we can determine if there is any trend associated with the email/rejection/interview dates.

Welp... I won't be going to Utah... Can't say it's a huge loss though because I wanted to move anyway.

No email, rejection letter in the mail yesterday. Idaho res.

So I am thinking at this point since I didn't get that e-mail, I will most likely be getting a rejection letter soon. I think if you did get it, it does not mean acceptance for sure, but closer than not getting it. Safe to assume?

Hmmm...I wouldn't be too sure about that. I've been accepted, and didn't receive that email.

I never got that email either, and I still haven't heard anything. Knock on wood.

Also, I see from this thread that there were some people accepted near the start of January. Has anybody else heard of any acceptances since then? Any ideas when they might send out acceptances again?

I also got the email, have not been accepted or rejected yet. I also interviewed on the first day they offered them. The wait is killing me.

Yeah.. in response to the poster who wanted dates:

Int: ~9/30
email: ~ 2/2

No word yet... I'm OOS. I'm into my state school, but would gladly choose Utah and make the move... it was awesome

Well I got my rejection letter in the mail today, dated 2/1/08. I am OOS, interviewed on 10/4. This is my second year applying so don't think I will apply to schools a third year because my MCAT will be outdated. Last year they sent my rejection dated January 1st. This is so weak. Good luck to all the rest of you.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck elsewhere!

The slow trickle of rejection letters, financial aid emails, sprinkled with a few acceptances is almost nerve-racking.

By which date did they say everyone would know their status?

I hear you. All I know is that we should know by the end of March.

I heard late-march to early April.. is this right? maybe I'm just making it up. I'd like to know by mid-march

They said at my interview the vast majority of people won't hear anything until sometime between March 15th and the end of the month.

All the rumors I hear have tended toward the end of March. Last year I was at a seminar given by Dr. Samuelson around the beginning of April and he said they were about ready to send out acceptances. I've also heard they had more applicants than expected this year, so that may push it back slightly.

Wonderful.. I'm sure that helps our chances

I think the increase has been accross the board at all schools. I'm not sure whether it means a significant increase in applicants overall or if people are just applying to more schools than before. Hopefully the latter.

I think that if you didn't get the financial aid email it means they are going to accept you soon. Why send you the email if you're just going to get the information in the regular mail within a few days anyway? Right? I'm basing this idea on a very reliable source; my imagination. I like it because it gives me hope.

Well my friend didn't get that e-mail and he got the rejection letter today in the MAIL. 🙁 I hope mine isn't in the mail either... I haven't been home to check yet today!!! (no e-mail for me)

😕 According to those who received letters of rejection in this thread, none of them had received an email.😕

But on the flipside, moe_4 was accepted, but didn't receive the financial aid email as of the 7th of Feb either...so it may not meen anything. There does seem to be a general trend on SDN of no email=rejection. But we also know that email does not = accepted. So who knows. SDN is only a minute fraction of the 1200+ applicants at the U.

Accepted - University of Utah - johnbeck (interview 10/9, accepted 1/4 snail mail), zenaforever (interviewed Oct, accepted 1/3 snail mail), moe_4eva (Interview Oct, accepted 1/2 snail mail)

So far it seems that the only people accepted so far were ones who interviewed in OCT.

Anyone accepted who didn't interview in OCT get accepted yet?

good luck🙂

I don't know, I interviewed in September and have not been accepted or rejected yet.

It seems like the U of U has rejected mostly OOS applicants. I know of a few Utah residents that have been rejected so far but mostly those from out of Utah. Does Utah wait until March to deliever the majority of their rejections, acceptances, or both?

Yep, March is what everyone is saying.

Is this true? Where are you getting this info? I only ask because it'd make more sense to deny IS applicants right now since they interview more applicants from Utah, correct?

Remember the 1/2 hour introduction in the morning at your interview? They said at mine that they only accept a few before March 15th, but the majority of applicants would get their acceptance/rejection somtime between March 15th and the end of March. Did they say that at anyone elses interview?

I don't know how reliable this is, but I heard from one of my friends who knows someone on the admissions committee that the U is sending out acceptance letters on February 15th. With President's Day on Monday, I would guess that those letters will be arriving to us (hopefully) on Tuesday the 19th. I don't know for sure, but it gives me something to hope for!

hmm.. weird. I wonder if there are any current students reading this that could fill us in on when they heard. I was pretty sure most of them are from March.

It could be they are just going to be sending out a few acceptances again like they did last time and still hold off on the bulk.

Could this just be another round of small scale acceptances before "March Madness" or was the committee member referring to the large scale acceptance that we all thought occurs in March? I have to admit, I wouldn't be too surprised if they sent out another round of acceptances since it seems like rejection letters are continuously going out as well.

Edit: It looks like we all had the same thought!
