UTK c/o 2016 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Grr, still nothing here in northern Colorado... hurry up snail mail!!

Got an interview invite, but I'm declining it, since I've already decided on Wisconsin.

Still a nice feeling to be invited.... 🙂

I might be declining mine as well... still can't decide.:scared: U Tenn is one of my top choices, but they have taken SOOOO long 😱 (not that I didn't know they would, but sometimes it gives you time to like other places) 😀

I might be declining mine too....I just can't figure out what to do! I've heard great things about UTK, but it will be a lot of money to get down there and I have already fallen in love with the 2 schools that I have been accepted at. I just don't want to turn my interview down without even seeing the school because I could get there and realize that UTK is the perfect fit for me

If any of you OOSers have questions about UT, Knoxville, etc. please let me know! It could help with your pro and con list for those of you who are having a hard time deciding whether or not to keep your interview. I'm finishing up my undergrad at UT now.

Thanks Betsy! I need to get back to my biochem studying 😡 but I will be PMing you soon!

I should be studying Biochem...but Modern Family comes on in 6 minutes. I value my sanity and NEED to laugh for a few minutes!

LOVE Modern Family. I borrowed the first 2 seasons from a co-worker recently. Now that I've finished those, I need to find and catch up on season 3.

OMG EMILOO YAY!!!!!

 me too, and I was already killed off! 😀
THANKS! Too bad our interviews are a day apart 🙁

Still nothing in WV. 🙁 *sigh*

I was noticing a few OOS people have been declining their interviews.
Does anyone know if Tennessee has an alternate list? Like, if some people decline interviews, do they send out more invites?

I'm just wondering because someone mentioned all letters go out at one time (rejections and interview invites). And no one has posted about rejections, yet. I don't know if the mail is just being slow, but I feel like I should have received something by now. I know it has only been a few days, and I'm probably looking too far into it, but I'd just like to know something already. 😛

By the way, Congrats to everyone on their interviews! 😀

I honestly don't know the answer to this question. The best I can say is that I don't remember ever hearing of it happen to anyone, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't.

Congrats to everyone so far and :xf: to everyone still waiting.

I'm in TX and I haven't yet gotten my inevitable rejection letter. 😛 (I think I'm going to be 0.2ish below the minimum cumulative GPA requirement for OOS applicants.)

But if I decide to apply again next year, does anyone know what the rules are for applying for IS residency if you're initially accepted as OOS? I looked it up on UTK's site, but the link pointed to some legalese gobbledy-gook that I would need a translator to understand!

http://registrar.utk.edu/residency/resguide.shtml

I'll probably call/email the admissions folks this summer to get a definitive answer, but because it's probably not going to be a pressing issue for me the next few weeks, I don't want to bug them at such a hectic time.

As far as I know, you can't, but I would be interested in hearing what you find out 🙂

Marry someone with a job in Tennessee, or move here at least a year ahead of time. Otherwise, I don't think they give IS status to OOS students.

I agree with Katryn. I asked admissions a few months ago because I used to be a resident. Alas, it has been too long since I lived there to be IS.

I know one student who got IS tuition her last 2 years. She moved to TN, got a TN drivers license, and got a job at a vet hospital during the weekends and summers. She had her employer write a letter stating they were holding a job for her, and she insisted she was planning on staying a TN resident.

I can now say rejections did go out too and boy was that a brutal rejection 🙁

I haven't received anything yet. Steeling myself for a rejection. Which would mean no hope for any official offers this year.

I got my invite to interview the other day. I'm in New England though, it's going to cost about $500-$700 just to get a plane down there, and more if I need to stay the night (there aren't any direct flights from Albany to Knoxville).

I'd like to explore all of my options, but the admissions statistics don't seem to be in my favor. I'm out of state, and my GPA was only 3.5. I've been accepted at one of my top choices and waitlisted at the other, so I'm not sure if the time and money is worth a probable rejection? But I don't want to snub it! Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, anyone have any suggestions on other airports that might be cheaper?

There's also a small airport in the Johnson City area, but I don't know how many flights really go in and out of that one. And you would still need to rent a car. McGee Tyson is the only airport that is not at least an hour and half-ish away.

Nashville or Chattanooga, then rent a car?

Thanks. 😀

My family always flies out of Nashville, even though the Knoxville is within an hours drive, because the flights are usually that much cheaper.

I received my OOS rejection letter today. At least I am relieved to know SOMETHING now. Good luck to those interviewing!!!! 🙂

Yeah I am gonna fly into Nashville and stay a day or two and enjoy it since I'm gonna spend that much money anyway. Thanks!

I am flying into Nashville and renting a car. It is about a 3 hour plus drive. My family lives in the area, so I am going to stay the weekend.

So am I 🙂. I'm gonna hang around Nashville on Sunday and Monday until my interview later that day. I originally had to chose whether I wanted to move to Nashville and do the whole "poor musician/singer/songwriter thing" or try for veterinary school... because they're both such attainable goals 🙄 lol... but I went with the "safer" choice (which sometimes makes me sad). So I figured I would still hang out in Nashville for the weekend WHILE I chase the "more realistic dream" of veterinary school! 🙂
Another one of the reasons I applied at UTenn... Nashville 😍

My interview is on Wednesday ( I seem to be the only one who has it that day...) But I would totally be up for hanging out with anyone post interview. I can a decent tour of the campus, show the popular hang out spots, etc.

If you are interested, PM me so I can make arrangements. 🙂

Same as above....if anyone needs tips on what to see and where to go while in KnoxVegas, let me know! If you've never been to Knoxville before, you MUST go downtown. MUST. Gay Street and Market Square are a really neat aspect of Knoxville and super close to campus.

Maybe we oughta get together, since we are so close!

Let me know and I'll join you guys! I'm not working over spring break and was planning on hanging around the school during interviews on a few of the days anyway. I'm not the greatest for pointing out the must see hang out spots, but I'd be more than happy to let people pick my brains about the program.

Anyone know if we're supposed to confirm our interview? My mom told me over the phone that I got one, so I haven't read the actual letter or anything....???

On the letter it gives an email to send a conformation by March 12th.

Ok thanks so much. It is currently on its way to me in the mail, so she wasn't able to read it to me either lol. I just wanted to make sure if wasn't today or something.
THANKS! 😀

I finally received my letter, and it was a rejection. (my third rejection from UT to be exact)

It went to my parents' house. I was driving myself crazy checking my mail. Hah.

Anyway, congrats again to everyone who will be interviewing! 🙂

Still nothing 🙁 Anyone else still waiting to hear?

I'm still waiting too... I'm paranoid that I somehow messed up my address or that it was delivered to the wrong apartment and they just tossed the envelope out... Ahh!

Hey this is a couple of days late, but I can help.

Yes,. Tennessee does have an "alternate" list for their interview slots. I applied OOS last year, and was denied. A week before interviews were scheduled, I received call asking if I would come in to interview. They said they knew I was denied (it wasn't a mistake), but a lot of students had already been accepted to their IS schools, so they needed more interviewees.

I'll let you take this with a grain of salt (or a barrel) because I was again denied after interviewing.
