Anyone planning on calling UVM to check their status tomorrow (Friday)? Or just going to wait until Monday?

I don't think they'll be able to tell you anything until monday, but it wouldn't hurt to try tomorrow. If anything, it shows that you are really interested in the school. 🙂

I think I 'll wait till Monday, or Tuesday, since all of you will be calling on Monday.

Do you have to call? Or will an email suffice? What do you guys think?

Well, you don't *have* to do anything. It's for your own info. I think it's better to call because then you get your answer right away. If you email them, it'll take them a couple of days to get back to you... maybe more since they are really busy right now.

not going to call till May 15....coz the staff i talked to when i first found out that i was put on alt. list told me it's not necessary to call until after May 15.
i have no clue why....... can y'all update the postings when you hear something? thanks....

My guess is that they'll have a better idea of where we are on the list after May 15th, because at that point everyone who is accepted but definitely not planning on attending will have withdrawn.

Hi guys,

I'm currently a first year at UVM, and like you, I was on the UVM waitlist last year at this time. I called May 1 and was told I was in tier 1, and I got an acceptance letter, snail mail, on May 17th. Hopefully I can answer some of the questions that have been posted since I know waitlists really suck!

im pretty sure they rank the waitlist before May 1st...thats why you call after May 1st so that they tell your waitlist position.
Yes - this is true - they will divide the list into thirds and will be able to tell you which third (but not which number) you are in.

once may 1st comes around, is the waitlist set in stone?
Pretty much...I wouldn't worry about sending any more LOI's grade updates, etc. after May 1 unless you simply can't help it. Starting May 15th, they pull people sequentially from the list, and a slew of people will likely get acceptance letters immediately. I can see some benefit if it starts getting late in the summer and you are still looking for that elusive acceptance, or you are really wanting to go to UVM and are willing to take a spot last minute, to either call or send another letter to let them know you are still interested despite a late call, as I could see them straying from the list towards the end of the summer if they need to scramble to fill a last-minute spot.

My guess is that they'll have a better idea of where we are on the list after May 15th, because at that point everyone who is accepted but definitely not planning on attending will have withdrawn.
This may be true, but you can still find out what third you are in as of May 1 - no need to wait 15 more days!

As you have all heard, the first third generally gets in, the middle third could go either way, and the last third generally doesn't. I'm happy to try to answer other questions as they come up - I know this is a very stressful time, but UVM lets in a good number of people off the waitlist since they have to accept Vermonters and Mainers first, and they have to have enough spots for them should they all choose to accept. Let me know if you have other questions.

Good luck!

st. pius v said:
yeah, that was exactly my question.... can you still move up or down on the waitlist after May 1 (?)....who knows, i'd probably ask someone who's a 1st-yr. now at uvm and see if he knows the answer.
my guess is the that the alt. list is NOT set in stone. 😎

I called and spoke with Mary about this recently. This last semester, i have been kicking major a$$ in everything! (first time ever- maybe I'm finally getting the hang of undergrad). I asked her, "When I send in my transcripts, LOI, LOR's..etc.., will it change my position on the waitlist?" She said no, the only way to move up is for the people ahead of you to move off.

Well, I guess the bright side of this is that we can now stop stressing out and worrying about writing LOIs, getting new LORs, and sending in new transcripts. Since it's not in our hands anymore, we can sit back and hope for the best. Gluck!! :luck: :luck:

that's true... nothing left to do but wait now

I think this is going to be a long weekend :luck:

i'll try not to think about it this weekend and at the same time, i'll try to be optimistic....whatever happens will happen for a reason.
i know someone who was offered a spot late July last year and he had been very persistent about going there. 😱 😱

my new transcript (three quarters worth) will include a C, C+, and a withdrawal (for a class that I didn't need to graduate).. should i worry about this if i get accepted?

No, I wouldn't get worked up about this - they aren't going to take away your acceptance because of them. I assume those are final grades, but if you are in any danger of failing any of those classes, I would suggest you work very hard to keep your C's 😉

thanks for the info MNgrrl....i'm assuming or at least expecting that i'm in the bottom third pile. why? bcoz i'm taking an advice from one of the staff as a hint when she told me to go on my other interviews....this was way back on April 8....right after the last AD COMM meeting, i think.
now, i'm wondering if the alt. list ranking gets compiled right after the meeting or between the meeting and April 29....i'm going nuts if i don't stop thinking about this. 😱 😱

pius, I wouldnt worry what the staff said...she probably didnt know your status and plus i doubt they ranked the alts list back when u called...im guessing that the alt list ranking is compiled inbetween the time after the final round of letters are sent out and march 1st...im guessing they did it last week but that my speculation.

Im naturally worried too...UVM is my top choice and my really only choice (I dont think Ill get into the other school i interviewed at) but as of now, theres nothing we can do but sit and wait until monday to see where we stand.

Hi guys,
I'm a fellow UVM waitlister in love with the school. I have a question regarding financial aid. If we get off the waitlist, I'm assuming we'll have very little time to accept the offer and reject the school we had previously accepted. For me, though, so much depends on money since I have so little of it. 😉 If we get off the UVM waitlist, will we be able to hear about UVM financial aid options prior to making a decision? I've been offered a generous need-based scholarship at Emory, but I would much rather be in Vermont - I fell in love with the school, the town, the people, the state, the skiing 🙂 - all of it, I love it all. But I also can't imagine turning down a large scholarship for a large debt. Anyone know how financial aid stuff works out w/ waitlisters?

i have a friend who went to emory and she absolutely loved it....you have a 'generous' aid and obviously an acceptance to emory....mmmm, let me see....a bird in a hand is worth two in a bush....what are you waiting for?
plus, emory is a large private institution who has more $$$$ to offer as grants and scholarships as compared to a small semi-private college like uvm.
i guess it boils down to what your priorities are- skiing or having less in-debt when you get out of med. school.
as for me, i'll pick the latter.

Congrats iheartuvm, Redsox 2004 and 24! Don't worry st. pius you never know how much waitlist movement will take place so don't worry! I am also on the waitlist but I am kinda scared to call. I have a midterm tomorrow so maybe I will call after that. 😀

great... I'm still in this intolerable limbo!!!! Middle-third

Same here... I think I'll wait until I'm done with finals. Or, maybe I just won't call at all... I could just wait and see what happens... 🙄

Congrats to those of you on the top tier!! :luck:

See, my take on the thing is this: If UVM doesn't want you, then it's their loss. If you have talked to any doctor out there (which I am sure you have), they will be the first to tell you that a DO is the same thing. A year from now you'll love whatever school you end up at.

I guess thats one of the reasons you're top third material; very nice.

No...I just wrote that to be funny....

yes...and that's where I am headed

i'll just continue workin full time this coming year....give me an opportunity to pay down my current loans....i guess i also better release my spot at mcg....don't want to go to georgia.
i didn't think i had a good interview w/ dr. scriggins at uvm to begin with and that's part of the reason i had a feeling i was on the bottom third....

Well, I'm in the middle third, and if I am not accepted by Mid-June, I will have to withdraw my application: so that may free up a spot for you.

Good luck

well that's very nice of you....thank you! actually, you might want to hold on coz i know of a current 1st yr. that go accepted in mid-late July!
i'd hate for you to miss out uvm!

How in the world did you guys get through? I've called like 4 times.....I was on a flight for much of the day, otherwise, I would have called more times....how frustrating! good luck everybody!

Use option 5 not 3. It worked when I called. btw I am bottom third 🙁

I would also hate to miss out on UVM, but if I am not accepted before my wedding (mid-june), I am going to withdraw and go to COMP. It's more a problem with housing, moving, my fiancee's school/job..etc...

cheer up! it's not the end of the world- as long as you have something you want to do or can do for another yr., i don't think it's a biggie.
for all those who are in the bottom third, wanna get some beer tonight?

everyone who is in the last pile don't give up hope. You don't know how much waitlist movement will take place. They base their waitlist from the previous years and only put enough people who they think will come off. So just because its the bottom third doesn't mean you guys don't have a shot ! Be optimistic ... and get some beer with st. pius 😀 and Good Luck ! :luck:

I do have a current acceptance at Chicago Med School - Rosalind Franklin U so I think that makes me feel a lot better when I think about that. However, I dont know about going to RFUMS because of the probation thing... oh well

I finally got through today and found out I'm in the middle third.....the woman I asked said we don't get to review financial aid before making a decision, but that we could call the office of financial aid to confirm. Anyone else have any more info? Thanks!

middle third here...does anyone know for sure that the number of ppl on the waitlist is 100? also, it seemed from last year that all the top 1/3 got in but they didnt make it to the middle third, not even the top. anyways, gl all 🙂

I called in today and was notified taht I am in the top third. The lady said that this is a pretty good position to be in.

Do people in the top third have a descent chance of getting accepted?

Also, do you guys know if one could be moved lower in the list?

So my question is: Where did all of the spots that people gave up go? There have been at least 4 or 5 people who said they were dropping/ had dropped their spots w/UVM. Do you think UVM waiting to see how many open spots they have on May 15th before dishing them all out at once? I haven't heard of anyone getting notification between the 1st and 15th, even on previous years. [And yes, I know there are many people who don't post on SDN but I would think at least once someone would say something if it was even a possibility...]

Very good question, Iheart. I think it would be cool if we kept one another informed about whether we hear of any movement. It does seem from previous threads on SDN at least that no one heard before the middle of May. I have no idea why they would not tell us earlier, but there must be a good reason.

i'm in the lower third pile and very sad 🙁
I doubt there is any chance now-i am just curious about the stats tho. I thought I made the cut and my ECs are good so I wonder what was missing. if ya'll don't mind, could the top tier share your stats with us? This way I can look into how my application can improve it for next year. I tried asking the admin office directly but they wouldn't help.

Medapp, first of all, lower third is still a waitlist spot and not a rejection... consider yourself absolutely deserving of a medical school acceptance. Seriously. This is my third time applying to schools... perseverance counts... if becoming a doctor is what will make you happy and sleep soundly at night, then keep at it. (sometimes that is the only thought that keeps me going in this trying process)
Stats: MCAT 31R, GPA: 3.3 (this included two masters degrees)
If UVM is truly your first choice remember that they are a unique program which appreciates the "person" in the applicant. Volunteer, do research, know what you are getting into, but most of all care about your pursuits, and programs such as UVM will appreciate your contribution to healthcare.
G'luck. :luck:

i think grade wise, we all made the cut- that's why we were invited for an interview. dr. rathmell said that grades only serve to get you an interview invitation and from that point onwards, it all hangs upon the outcome of the interview.
looking back, i did not have a good interview- i was a bundle of nerves (and was trying too hard to make up for it) for 2 reasons;
1. uvm is my 1st choice
2. there's only ONE interview- if you screw it, you're pretty much screwed (kinda like newton's 3rd law)

medapp, i'm sad too but i know i have much to look forward to and i'm determine not to spend too much time licking my wounds. here's your choice- let's be sad together or let's encourage each other to move forward (just like redsox2004 is encouraging us now).

life goes on....o happy day.... 😉
