Uvm Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know how can there be no movement if a there has been a few people who said that they withdrew?

Lets just think that most of the people who are withdrawing sent their letter via snailmail.

So, are you guys planning to call the office on Monday?

OK, so not to rain on our SDN parade here, but...
If UVM accepts like 180 people off the bat, aren't we waiting for 80+ people to w/draw before they tap into our waitlist group?
So all those w/drawals we hear about... they could be contributing to that 80 and have no impact on waitlist movement.
?
WHY did that just come into my head?
Could I be any more pessimistic this morning?

Yeah, I am also a little bit scared about the cold weather. Although, it wasn't so bad when I was there in January.
I am also excited about the Fall. Vermont's Autumn Foliage is one of the 50 must see places in the National Geographic special travel edition. I hope that we all get accepted and get to experience this!

Not that I want to be all pessimistic now, but when is the time when we should start to panic or start feeling really pessimistic? midJune?

I know what you mean\! What "South" are we talking about? I'm from VA...
I wish I could be like you and get excited about the snow. I'm just scared right now! :scared: I do get excited about the Fall though. There is nothing like spending the Fall in New England... so beautiful... 😍

that foliage lasts for 2 weeks: then it's 5 months of weather in the teens. Have fun!

Just consoling myself after not getting in.

lol I can call on friday 🙂

So, DoctorMalki, did you call on Friday? Any movement?

I could call on Tuesday to ask if there has been any movement on the wating list.

For those who are planning on callng the office, could you ask if we will be notified of our acceptance by phonecall with snail mail or just snail mail.

Thanks!!!!!

so, what's the word....did anybody call today?

I called...no movement so far.... 😱

I called and didn't get through. Left a message. I guess they'll all me back tomorrow, so I'll have tomorrow's news... 😉

i thought you were going to penn state (?) or are you still deciding? you know, i applied to penn state too but did not send my secondaries....wish i did 🙄

Called today and talked to Mary Campbell. She said there has been little movement since last week. She gave me an impression that this is somewhat unusual.

For those who have trouble getting through, my advice is to keep redialing and press zero instead of #3. This has always worked for me.

So, who will be calling on Wednesday?

And, anybody got pulled from the waitlist?

doesn't seem to bode well. I hope that list starts moving soon! I'm really starting to feel as though UVM is the place for me!

Hey guys, I just got a message from Mary Campbell saying the same thing- no movement yet, and this is unusual. 😕 I feel bad that she has to keep saying the same thing again and again but love that she is so willing to help! She also said maybe people decided to forgo their acceptance deposit, and perhaps will withdraw later this month. So it sounds like the schools are okay about letting people hold multiple spots, just as long as applicants realize their deposit goes down the drain...? In any case, I'm hoping a bunch of snail mail withdrawls will flood their office this week and that we will all get good news next week! :luck: :luck:

I'm still undecided... I mean, I really loved PSU and I would be perfectly happy if I ended up there. But, I also really liked UVM and I have a decent shot since I'm in the first third. I have trouble letting it go... So, I decided to stay on the waitlist and consider it if I get in later during the summer. I guess I'm very lucky to be in a win/win situation. I'm really crossing my fingers for all of you who really want to attend UVM. I hope you hear good news soon!

Concerning the waitlist, Mary called me back and she said she was surprised because there has been little movement compared to the past few years... not good. 🙁 But, she said to keep calling and checking, because there might be some movement at the end of the month.

I thought it was my day today!?!

Mary Campbell told me the same thing. I was also under the same impression and I asked about the spots from that people had withdrawn. She asked me how i knew people had withdrawn and I told her about SDN; She said that she had read those posts as well.... So I would just like to say Hi to Mary, since she is probably reading this post.

I am thinking that is where our SDNer w/drawals came from (the 80+ pool).

And what sucks is that I sat near the top of the UMass waitlist all last year and "for the first time in years" there was little movement.
Girls and boys, I may be the unlucky charm on this UVM waitlist.
From now on, I will be "Ms. Murphy's Law Herself".
Please blame me for any lack of movement this year. 😎

I withdrew last Thursday. THe woman on the phone said it would take a while for my check to come. It came today. 🙂 Good luck.

So, applicants have to write a letter to withdraw their acceptance? Can they just call?
Lets hope on many snailmails!

I think there are less than 80 people because I assume that some applicants have withdrew earlier on? Hasn't UVM been offering acceptance since December?

Don't say that!!!!!
Lets hope that this year will be a good year for waitlisters!!!!

As much as we want to be optimistic about this whole thing, roughly when will be the official panic day or period? midJune?

So when do you have to finalize it with PSU? month before the class starts? is there a timeline? Just curious.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "finalize." I think it's basically finalized. It's after May 15th and PSU is the only acceptance I'm still holding. I have paid my deposit and filled out the housing app, etc. Unless UVM offers me a spot in June and I decide to accept it, I'll be at Penn State in the fall.

But, if UVM accepts me, I think I only have something like 24 hours to decide between the two schools. A little scary, but fair.

I see! You answered my question.
So, have you decided which school you will go to? In other words, are you leaning towards PSU or UVM? Thanks KitKat37.

By the way, do you guys know if we are going to be informed of our acceptance by phone or snail mail?

i heard that uvm handed out 150 acceptances for the entering year of 2005, a drop from previous years of about 170 - 180. someone asked the question during our orientation with dr. rathmell and that's what he said. hope that helps!
eena....you need some wine to calm yourself down! 😀

Hi guys,

So, who is calling today? It's better if only one of us calls... That way, poor Mary won't have to repeat the same thing 15 times. She is so sweet and helpful! 🙂

eena: I think the person who is currently a student at UVM and who was posting a little while ago said that s/he got accepted off the waitlist and received a letter via snail mail. You could go back and read some of the old posts on this thread to check, but I think that's what s/he said.
And, to answer your previous question, I still haven't decided... But, I'm leaning toward PSU. They gave me a good financial package with a decent scholarship. It's harder to turn them down now. I think I'll give UVM until mid-June and then withdraw if nothing happens.

Try to chill a little. You'll be fine! 😉 :luck:

i'm not calling today or even this week for sure....i'll wait for you guys to do it cause if there aren't any movements on the top and mid tiers, there sure ain't nothing, not even scraps for us lower tier puppies!
eena: got wine? 😉

Hi eena. I understand your urgency and anxiety with this whole process. I am leaving to volunteer in a country where I will be unreachable for the month of June, so I am also anxiously awaiting waitlist movement before then.

But, I don't see how harrassing Mary and the Admissions Office daily will make the list move any quicker... it seems as though it is really a matter of awaiting the appropriate number of withdrawals.

UVM is practically the most expensive school in the country (but of course I loved it), and money talks these days... especially with malpractice insurance sky-rocketing and the increased number of PAs and NPs... so I am sure cost will still deter those accepted applicants. I have faith in that.

So cheers to being a fellow first tier-er, and I'll have an extra beer for you tonight. 😀
Hopefully we'll all be there together in August.
:luck:

What I need to do is drink wine and not log in SDN for a few days.
The wait is driving me crazy.......

By the way, I saw in another thread that UVM waiting list usually has the most movement between 5/12 - 7/21...is this pretty accurate?

where are you going?
I also thought about going to Ecuador this Summer, but decided to just save the money and continue my clinical volunteer work at a local hospital. I will just do some kind of volunteer abroad when I am in medschool. I really want to enhance my Spanish conversational skills.

yeah, you are right. we just have to wait. it seems that withdrawal letters were sent by snail mail.

Lets wait wait wait!

I asked Mary on Monday, she said that it depends on the time of year. Generally, we will all get snail mail acceptance letters, but if our acceptances come late, we will get a phonecall in addition to the letter. NO EMAIL!

I didn't and I don't think anyone else on this thread did. It seemed like we all agreed that we should just *wait* a little and give poor Mary some rest... 😳

As of Wednesday, still no movement.

Just hang in there, folks. I'm waiting to get the official letter of acceptance from my state school. I'll withdraw from UVM as soon as I get the letter. I'll probably have to send UVM a withdrawal letter too. So, I guess it'll take a few more days if not a week or so.

I called Friday and same news- no news. Anyone calling tomorrow?

Do you guys think that when the WL does start to move (Assuming it will move), that they will send out a bunch of letters at once or there will just be a couple at the beginning? From past threads, it appears as though it had moved by this point in years past.

Oh, and by the way, I was talking with somebody this weekend who graduated from UVM a few years ago; he was taken off the WL in August!

Do you guys know if writing a letter or sending more letter of recommendation will help us move up the waiting list or increase our chance of getting pulled from the list?

Has anybody asked the admissions office how does one get off the list?

I might call!
Got movement?
