hi all.

I'll be interviewing at UW in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone here had interviewed with them in the past. If so, would you mind sharing some insight?

Do the interviewers have your entire application in front of them?

Who are the interviewers? How many? How long?

What is the writing sample?

Thanks in advance for any & all input!!

That's where I went to undergrad! U-Dub rocks!! Health Sciences campus is right on Portage Bay. it's f#$#in amazing!! I'd apply there if I had residency. Good luck.

Congratulations on your interview. I am a 3rd year pharmacy student at UW and this is what my interview was like.
First thing, they had me write a 15 minute essay. The topic I had was about direct to consumer advertising (you know, all those celebrex and viagra commercials we see on tv). One of my classmates had what do you think is the greatest advance in healthcare in the 21st century.

There were 3 interviewers total. Yes, they have your application and personal essay in front of them, so make sure you remember what you wrote because they will ask you questions from it. The interview was about 30-40 minutes.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to help.
good luck!!:)

Glengarry,

Thanks so much for all your input. I really appreciate it! UW is atop my list of schools. I've got all my fingers crossed.

How do you like the program? Any pros or cons from your experience? Do you think the program is preparing you well for the field?

Are most of your classmates WA residents?

Thanks again for all your help!!

ps) welcome to the forum!!

Do you know if they are still interviewing?

I sent my app to UW late.

Riskhk,

I think they still interview until mid to late April.
Why don't you just call them and ask for the status of your application?
Good Luck:)

Hey Glengarry,

Can you talk about the possibilities for working during pharm school? What are some of your classmates doing? How many are working?

Hey Risk,

Did you go to UCI? Just curious, my gf graduated from there last spring.

Triangulation,

As far as I know, all of my classmates are working. Most of them work 1 or 2 days a week. I know a few that actually work full time and they seem to do just fine.

But are they working as interns or as techs?

Thanks Glengarry.

How's the Clam room doing down at South Campus Center? I used to study there all the time as and undergrad (until the frat boys got hold of it:mad: ) and the Barnes and Noble in U-village.

When can you begin interning?

Triangulation,

Ya, the SCC is a good place to study. It has really nice views of the water. I mostly study in the boring ol library, though!
In Washington state, you can start interning as soon as you get accepted into pharmacy school. You don't even have to wait until you start school. Basically, after you get your acceptance letter, you go the Board of Pharmacy website, print out an intern application and fill it out, send a picture, and a fee ($20.00 If I remember) mail it to them and in about a week you get your intern license.

Thanks Glengarry. You rock with Ozzy!!

getting around

Hi huskies,

Just wondering what the transportation system is like in Seattle, especially between downtown and UW? It appears as though the primary form of transport b/t the two are busses. Is that correct? If so, from your personal experiences, is it a long ride (ie: >30 mins) and are the runs frequent? Do you think it'd be more reasonable to rent a car?

Interns

Glengarry,

Being that Washington licences their interns - does that equate to a higher pay rate than techs? Are the rotations during the last year also paid?

Thanks in advance!!

No need for a car. When I left Seattle, it had the #1 ranked bus system in the country (i heard that cutbacks were gonna mess that up though, but still...) It'll take less than fifteen mins to get from dowtown to U-Dub, and it only requires one bus. I don't know which anymore, but glengarry will probably know if not check the seattle bus website or call admissions.
