I was told about 30-40. This may be shooting a little high, but I can't remember the specific number

hey, does anyone know what happens if they call and you're not home. would they leave a voicemail or just try again later?

To the waitlist people, where do you live? What day was the postmark?

Well guys, it was fun freaking out with you all...I got the waitlist letter today. Game over.

The letter was postmarked 10/14 and dated 10/15. I received it today (10/17). I live in Washington, D.C.

Time to move on...

Good luck to those of you who are still waiting. You could well receive a phone call before Friday! :luck:

NO! It means I will probably get mine tomorrow lol. This is odd though because I live ON CAMPUS (Vandy). I should have received it before you...(maybe).

According to US News, Vandy accepts about 300 people, how many come off the waitlist, i don't know

No call or letter yet...not sure what to think

waitlist here...

Hey guys, sorry to hear about all the waitlists. Believe me, I know it's disappointing, but hang in there.

So here's the deal with the waitlist. Vandy rejects very few people post-interview and doesn't accept a huge number, either. That means the waitlist is ginormous. They will not look at it again until May, so no coming off the waitlist during the year. They will also tell you the waitlist is unranked, which is not strictly true. It's not RANKED, but it is TIERED. Dean Helderman is very good about talking to applicants, so you might be able to get the admissions office to give you an idea of which tier you are likely to be in.

(For those who care, this is what I was told last year: your application is scored 1-5, 1 being best. 1-1.5=admission, 1.5-1.6=uppermost teeny sliver of the top waitlist tier, 1.6-2=top tier, beyond that you don't have much chance. Within a tier or sliver you're on equal footing, ie 1.65 has the same chances as 1.95, and they'll take people with certain attributes they want to fill out the class, like more nontrads or Ohio residents or champion Tiddlywinks players.)

Historically 30ish people get pulled off the waitlist, but last year was an unusually slow-moving year for waitlists across the country and I don't think we came anywhere near the normal number. I'll try to find out how many waitlisters we did take last year. Just for you guys. 🙂

If you got a waitlist letter I bet you have a million questions, and I hope this helped. Feel free to PM me any time if you've got more or just want to vent to someone who's been there. Keep believing!

I will post the same thing today ::

Has anybody received a phone call from Vanderbilt or Hopkins today, Wednesday, October 19th?

:spam: <--- that is cool! I love spam!

I got the call on the 17th. Good luck to everyone still waiting, see you during second look weekend!

I'm not totally sure what that means, but thanks.

I just talked to Dawn in the admissions office. She said they're probably going to interview about 1000 and they usually accept 180-200. Last year she thinks only 15-20 people came off the waitlist. But they might be accepting fewer this year because last year the yield was really high, which means the waitlist might - might - move more than last year's. Also if the August MCATers aren't up to snuff your chances after being waitlisted this early are better.

File this under "Things that are good to know": Dean Helderman has just had some very bad news in his personal life, so please respect that if you talk to him. Which probably won't be today; he's taken off.

i still haven't heard anything....no call....no letter....and i interviewed on 8/18 (?) 😱

ahhh vandy!!! The harvard of the south....

Pray for me

vandy is certainly one of the southern schools that seems to be more popular among sdn applicants. I'm hoping for good news from them too!

Wiggy, thanks so much for updating us...I've been waiting for the Vandy call or letter, too. I interviewed 8/22, with a 3.86 GPA and a 38 MCAT, and I really thought (think?) I had a decent chance of getting in, so, having no call and no letter by now was really worrying me. Hearing about the Dean's unfortunate personal situation has helped me to stop obsessing...just a little. Thanks for helping my sanity 🙂

9/15 interview and no word either.

It seems like a lot of Vandy applicants who interviewed pretty early HAVE NOT heard anything as of late.

It was my understanding that all waitlist letters went out on Monday, and A LOT of students already received them.

Does anybody want to call Dawn and help us figure out what's going on? Are there just a lot more waitlist letters that haven't been mailed out yet?

And how is it possible that there are ONLY TWO SDN students who got accepted to Hopkins... don't understand it!

if someone has her number, i'll call tomorrow....i'm going crazy here! (and to the person who posted stats, if u check out mdapplicants.com, you'll see that people with higher numbers have been waitlisted at vandy)

for JHU, i was wondering if they only accept people on mondays? So maybe they only review a few applicants each week and then accept/reject.... I could very possibly be making this up but i feel like it might be true 🙁

Good luck, Lady. Tell us what she says about Waitlist Letters (when they were mailed out) and also if there are more acceptance phone calls coming our way for those who interviewed early.

Hey, I asked this on another thread, but I dont think there was ever a reply. LadyBulldog, would you go to Vandy over Umich?

I called today, but talked to someone other than Dawn. All the letters went out Monday, but she didn't know what the letters contained or which people the Dean had called or would call. Kinda vague, but maybe someone good at getting info out of people should give it a try.

Vanderbilt Interview: August 26, 2005

Spoke with Dawn and Jennifer. She looked at my application status and told me that I could expect to hear this weekend or next week regarding my application.

She couldn't tell me what my status was, but told me to be patient, because letters are still going out for those who interviewed in August.

Good luck to everyone!

um...not sure....i was born in ann arbor and i feel like umich is ranked higher/preferred by residency directors....but the students seemed pretty happy at both places....i don't even want to think about that now though 'cause things aren't looking good for me at vandy (still no word!)

also, apparently, the dean had a personal tragedy about 2 weeks ago but it seems to be something serious.

hey, i interviewed the same day as you at JHU. I haven't hearda anythign either. I called Tuesday and the person told me to "wait a while" and that "they weren't going in order." I am pretty sure I'll be waitlisted, but I think that you shouldn't feel one way or another for a few days (until next week). You have amazing stats and you're bound to get in.

Yeah, I found out today that, after your interview, you need two things before you go to "batch": your LORs and your letter from your interviewer. She told me a lot of the people from August who were accepted have already been called, and then she checked my status for me... and told me to expect a letter soon. OUCH! I guess that means I get to join the congo-line in the wait-list pile (unless it's a rejection, which would really suck).

I would highly suggest everyone call and check on the status of their application. I called in because I interviewed all the way back at the end of August and I have not heard a peep. Turns out something never got done on their end of the deal and I never even went under review to the committee. So if you haven't heard anything from them, just call and check on your status.

Yeah, I interviewed on August 22nd and have not heard anything yet. I called today and spoke with Jennifer, and she told me they still needed "one thing" before they could send my application to the committee. Did she mean a letter from my interviewer? If so, why couldn't she just say a letter from your interviewer. Instead, she kept saying once they got this "one thing" my application would be put in the batch. Anyone have any idea what that means?

Haha, that's a fantastic question.

My bad about both schools being on here. When I started this thread, I was just anxious about both schools 'cause I'm waiting for them.

Cheers!

wow, thanks, that's really sweet, but JHU is seriously a tough school to get into.....that was a small group that day....where r u from/what school?

See, here's what I find most confusing:

Those of us who interviewed at the beginning of September all were told we'd find out right around Oct. 15. Since we know that people were called on Monday, it makes sense to assume that if we weren't called, we didn't get accepted. The problem is that we were also told that decisions are made immediately, and they don't defer decisions. So, we would also expect that someone would have received a 'low waitlist'=rejection letter by now, but nobody has listed this...

I heard from Dean Halderman today (10/21). I interviewed 9/20. He said the admissions committee met today. That's all I know.

Congratulations! wow! that's a 4 week turnaround! Later september interviewees take note...the end/beginning may be near.

Any news for today (monday)?

Not yet, but my fingers are crossed and my phone is on. 😳

just wanted to bring a Vandy thread back to the front page so the hassle of browsing for it with no search function wouldn't deter people from posting.

no news here unfortunately.
