The letter was postmarked 10/14 and dated 10/15. I received it today (10/17). I live in Washington, D.C.
Time to move on...
Good luck to those of you who are still waiting. You could well receive a phone call before Friday!![]()

Wiggy73 said:Hey guys, sorry to hear about all the waitlists. Believe me, I know it's disappointing, but hang in there.
So here's the deal with the waitlist. Vandy rejects very few people post-interview and doesn't accept a huge number, either. That means the waitlist is ginormous. They will not look at it again until May, so no coming off the waitlist during the year. They will also tell you the waitlist is unranked, which is not strictly true. It's not RANKED, but it is TIERED. Dean Helderman is very good about talking to applicants, so you might be able to get the admissions office to give you an idea of which tier you are likely to be in.
(For those who care, this is what I was told last year: your application is scored 1-5, 1 being best. 1-1.5=admission, 1.5-1.6=uppermost teeny sliver of the top waitlist tier, 1.6-2=top tier, beyond that you don't have much chance. Within a tier or sliver you're on equal footing, ie 1.65 has the same chances as 1.95, and they'll take people with certain attributes they want to fill out the class, like more nontrads or Ohio residents or champion Tiddlywinks players.)
Historically 30ish people get pulled off the waitlist, but last year was an unusually slow-moving year for waitlists across the country and I don't think we came anywhere near the normal number. I'll try to find out how many waitlisters we did take last year. Just for you guys. 🙂
If you got a waitlist letter I bet you have a million questions, and I hope this helped. Feel free to PM me any time if you've got more or just want to vent to someone who's been there. Keep believing!

You are just so cool and helpful. I want to shower a pot of Spring in your face!
Yeah, Wiggy is very very helpful. That just speaks to the caliber of students Vandy attracts!hanjoko said:She is the most helpful person that I have ever ever met in SDN!!! 👍 👍

I'm not totally sure what that means, but thanks.Doko said:Wiggy,

Doko said:It seems like a lot of Vandy applicants who interviewed pretty early HAVE NOT heard anything as of late.
It was my understanding that all waitlist letters went out on Monday, and A LOT of students already received them.
Does anybody want to call Dawn and help us figure out what's going on? Are there just a lot more waitlist letters that haven't been mailed out yet?
And how is it possible that there are ONLY TWO SDN students who got accepted to Hopkins... don't understand it!
LadyBulldog said:if someone has her number, i'll call tomorrow....i'm going crazy here! (and to the person who posted stats, if u check out mdapplicants.com, you'll see that people with higher numbers have been waitlisted at vandy)
for JHU, i was wondering if they only accept people on mondays? So maybe they only review a few applicants each week and then accept/reject.... I could very possibly be making this up but i feel like it might be true 🙁
kamui29 said:Hey, I asked this on another thread, but I dont think there was ever a reply. LadyBulldog, would you go to Vandy over Umich?
LadyBulldog said:um...not sure....i was born in ann arbor and i feel like umich is ranked higher/preferred by residency directors....but the students seemed pretty happy at both places....i don't even want to think about that now though 'cause things aren't looking good for me at vandy (still no word!)
also, apparently, the dean had a personal tragedy about 2 weeks ago but it seems to be something serious.

Spoke with Dawn and Jennifer. She looked at my application status and told me that I could expect to hear this weekend or next week regarding my application.
She couldn't tell me what my status was, but told me to be patient, because letters are still going out for those who interviewed in August.
Good luck to everyone!
Are you talking about Vanderbilt or Hopkins?tennisnr2 said:I would highly suggest everyone call and check on the status of their application. I called in because I interviewed all the way back at the end of August and I have not heard a peep. Turns out something never got done on their end of the deal and I never even went under review to the committee. So if you haven't heard anything from them, just call and check on your status.
tennisnr2 said:Vanderbilt sorry.
why do we even have a thread for vanderbilt AND johns hopkins. kinda weird lol
wowzer said:hey, i interviewed the same day as you at JHU. I haven't hearda anythign either. I called Tuesday and the person told me to "wait a while" and that "they weren't going in order." I am pretty sure I'll be waitlisted, but I think that you shouldn't feel one way or another for a few days (until next week). You have amazing stats and you're bound to get in.
See, here's what I find most confusing:wowzer said:hey, i interviewed the same day as you at JHU. I haven't hearda anythign either.
