Anyway... for anyone who knows. All this house hunting for a good deal north of Richmond (so I dont have to funnel 700/mo into rent and my husband is closer to the fredericksburg-DC commuter train) is giving me a headache. Anyone know if Caroline county is a good place to live? If not, and someone could get rid of my headache some other way, that would be decent alternative.

LOL. I'm stressed financially. Leaving a decent job to start back at school is taking a toll...so I've looked into a lot of loan matters. Since you are instate, your tuition is going to be way under the FAFSA loan limit. The unsubsidized portion (majority of the loan) isn't even based on financial need. You can take out FAFSA (or independ. if desired) loans for more than just your education. They can cover travel expenses and living expenses as well. When I was getting my Masters bc I didn't get a full scholarship and stipend (1600/mo)until my second year, I had to take out FAFSA loans. It covered my living (apartment) and tuition expenses. At the time I was making only a $600/mo income teaching labs at VCU.

Oh, and remember that if you get private loans, the deadline for applying is often much earlier than the FAFSA federal deadline of (June 30)

They pay the school directly and then give you the remainder you apply for in a check to be deposited into your savings/checking account. It isn't monthly, but I can't remember if it is per semester or annual.

EXACTLY! I lived in the West End. It wasnt through the school. They give you the $$ after tuition is paid for and you can do whatever you want with it. Get an apartment or blow it on drugs if so inclined
