Which private rotating internships are considered the most competitive for residencies? I know the academic programs are highly regarded in general, but want to be in private practice for a year. AMC and Angell are the main ones that I know of as being highly competitive, but wanted other opinions.

Depends on your chosen speciality, whether you want an academic or PP residency, and who the boarded specialists are at your internship location.

Angell and AMC are definitely the top two for private practice and have a much longer track record than most of the vet school internships out there.

VCA West LA and Alameda East in Denver (which I recently found out is now VCA) are also biggies for private practice in terms of reputation.

Gulf Coast I think as well, but Texas is a state I avoid at all costs so I don't know much about them. I do know it's a fairly big name.

Wheat Ridge in Colorado is also a pretty big name.

Just gonna hop in on this and ask about Academic internships... I know NCSU has a great rep, Does anyone have any input on any of the other schools ?

Yeah, but I mean they are worse than most. Obviously I don't know because I've not done one. But I've been advised to stay away from NCSU and Cornell.

I'm still trying to decide, but if I do an internship, I am going for private practice.

yes i would definitely say based on my experiences that that is VERY true. great for learning, but brutal. opens up a lot of opportunities if you can survive it though.

choose your private practice carefully, there are plenty of brutal and soul crushing bad private practice internships. and i mean bad from a teaching, morale, and human stand point. at least in academia you will learn tons and have good teachers even if it is crushing.

What I have been told is they are very VERY selective - as in only accept 4.0's. BUT if you get the internship and then pursue a Residency, that you are very likely to get a residency.. When talking to a faculty member here she flat out asked me my GPA and then politely but bluntly told me to not even rank NCSU if I decided to pursue academic internships. :/

Do you mind sharing what you have heard about Cornell? Unfortunately there are only 4 schools that regularly offer Dentistry Residencies and Cornell is one of them. I have put them on my list of potential options if I decide to go that route. Feel free to PM me if you want!

their interns are definitely more likely to get residencies, but a handful of the 10 interns from my year didn't match to a residency and ended up in 2nd internships
