Hey all,

A friend and I were talking about volunteering and getting shadowing experience and whatnot and he told me he wasn't bothered by that because he has a lot of family and friends of family in medicine that can write him letters saying he volunteered and/or shadowed them. I told him he'll be done for when it comes to writing the PS and the interview but he said he'll be fine and shrugged. Can someone really do this?? i.e. Get away with no legit volunteering/shadowing??

concerned friend,

That's such a stupid idea. The volunteering/shadowing/clinical experience is a two-sided coin. It shows the committee that you know what the medical field entails, AND it gives YOU an idea of whether you actually want to be a doctor or not.

By cheating the system like that, he is seriously running a risk. One should decide if medicine is not for them BEFORE applying.

And, it's just low to do that. Seriously.
