Quick question for the masses. I submitted my 4th year away elective application today for my dream location in EM. Before submitting, I called the coordinator to ask a question about the vaccination form. He asked me what month I was interested in coming out, and I said either Aug or Sept. He mentioned that despite the fact that applications are not processed till May, Aug has quickly filled up with requests and that I would be better to pick Sept.

I followed his advice and went ahead and applied for Sept. Now I'm second guessing the decision. I know that we submit ERAS on 9/1, so I basically just screwed myself out of a LOR from dream location. What I do get is exposure to the program and most likely an interview later in the season (fingers crossed).

I will be rotating at my home institution in July and most likely another away elective in Aug (for a grand total of 3 EM rotations). I could potentially get an LOR from the other site (which would end up as 2 LORs from my home institution and a third LOR from the other site).

I'm looking for some advice here. Should I change my dream location to Aug and just hope for the best? Or should I just get my LORs from the other places and do the Sept. rotation as is currently scheduled.

Thanks folks

I did a rotation in September and still got the letter out in time. It might still work if you tell them you will need the letter early. You could send an email to the coordinator and see how they handle letters and the turnaround time.

Get a SLOR at home in July....get another at your 1st away then you will have 2 slors that are needed for 99% of the ERAS applications for EM. Then kickass at the dream program and get a SLOR there to bomb into ERAS as a cherry on top. I did a close variant of this and it worked out well. If you pick a good dept or letter writer they will do it quickly and it should be out before late oct. invites just start to kick in after dean's letter release on nov 1st.
Sept rotation slor is not too late.

Letters are fine through the end of october. Your fine. Take a deep breath. 🙂
