Waiting for UCLA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm writing a letter too. Is Neil Parker the director of admissions? Or the dean? Is that who you guys are addressing your letters to?

He's the Chairman of the Admissions Committee. His name was on the waitlists so, that's who I'm addressing mine to.

martymcfly,
No, no avatar for me...yet. I can't find anything that goes with zealous or that I really like. Feel free to send me a good one if you find it. :D

Did anyone write a letter to Dr. Levey? What's the difference between him and Dr. Parker besides that Dr. Levey is a little higher up? Does parker have more say in admissions whereas Levey is more administrative for the deparment?

He doesn't oversee the admissions process. Write to Dr. Parker c/o to Admissions Committee.

Thanks Patiently Waiting. As always, you are a big help.

So having nothing better to do I looked back at the posts from this time last year regarding waitlists, especially about our favorite school. Not to perpetuate rumors in this already-mysterious process or anything, but does anybody know the truth behind the "priority waitlist/ second-priority waitlist" thing? Someone posted that there are two waitlists. Supposedly if your letter said you were on an unranked waitlist, then you are in the priority group. I guess the other letters say something else. Also there was some discussion about exactly how many people are on the different waitlists and how many get off it each year. I know this information is not that important anyway to my situation, but it makes me feel better during the wait...

Well I interviewed finally :)

So I guess I'll hear if I get put on the waitlist in the next month or so...yipppee....

Do you guys know what happens with financial aid when you are on the waitlist? Do you just have to keep waiting until they accept you or not?

Hey scoobs, hope you rocked their socks off!

I'm back in socali (and boy is it GOOD to be back :D ) now and I feel like going over to UCLA and checking on my status. But I know that probably would just annoy them hehe...

Patientlywaiting, did you say that they are going to start reviewing waitlists at the end of May? Thanks (you rock with all the inside info! :D )

matthew0126,
i called the admissions office several days ago and was told by "monotone guy" that the waitlist apps would be reviewed in a "couple of weeks..." i have this bad feeling that they won't be looking at our apps for a little while longer. but, i do hope that patientlywaiting had a much more reliable resource! if they started looking over our files next week that would be ggrreaattttt!

THanks for the info, s. Guess we wait and see. :D

yeah i talked to dude today and he said pretty much the same thing, they'll be looking over the files in june "up until the end of july". yikes. i wonder if he's just trying to shut us up so we'll quit calling him. too bad for him you can't shut up a bunch of anxious premeds. anyway he was actually quite nice to me, despite my obvious angling for more info.
"So...... is there anyone there I can speak with from the committee? No? Oh, so, maybe they're in a MEETING or something? No? Well, maybe they're getting ready for one, say, later this week???" That didn't work. So I'm going to stop worrying about it until I get a simple yay or nay in mid July or whatever.

She's an admissions officer and she seems to know a lot more than monotone guy. :D

i also called today and some lady (sounded like deanna) told me that they are going to review the waitlist sometime in june. she also said that there are about 200 people on the waitlist right now. BTW, today was the last day of interviews, so hopefully the waitlist will move soom.

So my curosity drove me to make a call and confirm if such exists. When I asked the monotone guy about it(yes, he may be my ultimate source of errors), he said they used to have two waitlists but have only one this year. Of course, we gotta remember about how each one of us receives different responses from the same person. This is only "my theory". The monotone dude is right about one waitlist...but just so far. It probably is true that the waitlist is unranked as the letter states. However, when the committee re-look at all of us waitlistees' files in "a couple of weeks", they will divide the group into two, 1st and 2nd priorities, and pull people off the 1st priority list to fill in the void. Anyway, I will call Deanna soon and see what's up. I will also confirm about how many of us have been waitlisted. 200 seems awfully a lot..but then 100 sounded too good to be true. If they are done with interviewing, maybe she can give me a more accurate #.

So, there goes my reliable source of info. Honestly though, I don't blame these middlemen/women for giving me wrong info...I am sure when I called back then, they were told by the "darn committee" that they would be able to reach some decisions about us by the end of May. Anyway, I am redirecting my anger and frustration to the committee...

But, dude, thanks for your confidence in me :) ...just what I need to hear after gambling away my hard-earned $$ in Vegas yesterday and feeling f#%#$ up.

This is a last year's thread.. I thought it's pretty interesting and informative. Lemme see if copying and pasting of the thread works...

UCLA Waitlist

Thanks for all the updates, Patiently Waiting!

crap, it didn't work. Alright, since I don't know how I can directly paste a link to the thread, here is the entire web address:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001550

if this doesn't work, use a search engine to check out "UCLA waitlist" dated March 9 2001.

Ceez, you're welcome  I just hope that all of our inputs somewhat lesson the waiting anxiety.

patientlywaiting,
i just wanted to say thanx too. :)

Thanks PW. I wonder if it's the same for this year!

You're welcome guys. :) Just bumping this up to the top.

So I have a question for you guys. I interviewed in Feb. and haven't heard anything yet, so today I called and they said it would be "another couple of weeks." Again.

Do you think it's time to contact my interviewer and politely ask what's going on? ie. "Is this normal?" or "Should I be discouraged?"

You can also call the admissions office and ask to speak with Deanna Moon, an admissions officer. She'll be more help than monotone guy.

Hey Ceez,
Have you heard anything yet?

Thanks Ceez, now I just gotta work up the courage! :D

Weeble,

I'm not sure if you've already contacted your interviewer(s) yet. If you haven't, I recommend you not to contact the interviewer for more info. Unless they're one of the admissions committee, first of all, they won't know much else about you after they present your case to the committee. Speaking from an experience, my interviewer told me to direct the Qs to the Admissions office cuz she's not in the position to answer them.

Hello, I hope you guys are all doing well. Unfortunately, I am another waitlisted applicant at UCLA. However, I do have some really important news to share with you all. From an EXTREMELY reliable source, I have learned that there are about 100 people on the waitlist and about half are expected to be accepted for this fall. Unfortunately, we are all going to have to wait until about June 15th to get any answers. That is the time when they will look over all of the waitlisted apps and begin to make decisions, so don't expect any movement until June 15th. Good luck to you all! :D

I FORGOT ONE REALLY IMPORTANT THING, GO LAKERS

5279--

Can you tell us who this source is without giving too much away? Not that I don't trust you, but there is so much hearsay, that I don't know what to believe anymore.

I really don't want to give too much away. Let's just say that you can trust this info; it definitely came from a source that wouldn't just provide more hearsay. Sorry I can't be more specific

GO LAKERS

Well, that sounds like good news - 50% getting in! But, June 15 is when they start? This could be a long summer...

jun 15 is a saturday...

5279,
thank you, thank you, thank you for this info!!!!!

5279,

Wow, thanks for the info. When I called the office two days ago, I got a similar response from a lady but am glad to hear that what I heard can be actually trusted. BTW, do you know anything about 1st/2nd priority lists?

Patiently Waiting,

Sorry, I don't know much about the 1st/2nd priority list for this year, or if they are even using one for that matter

p.s. I know that June 15th is a Saturday, my source of info said that files would be reviewed around June 15th, so that probably means the following week.

Do you know if this reliable source told you if they are reviewing only the waitlist applicants around 6/15 or will they also be reviewing recent interviewees. I really dont want to wait that long

I wonder if those of us who interviewed recently will bypass the whole waitlist status and will be either accepted or rejected.

Miss Medicine,

Sorry, I am not sure if they are reviewing waitlisted and recently interviewed applicant files around June 15th.

How did you guys know that I was dating monotone guy? Just kidding

Miss medicine, I interviewed a couple weeks ago, and just called today. A woman answered and told me that I would not hear anything until aleast another two weeks, so I guess we may also be included on that mid June decision batch. I really hoped that it would have been earlier.

jmejia1,
i interviewed March 14 and ever since that day they've been telling me that i will probably have news in two weeks....last time they told me that was on Tuesday! :( :(

Hey were you an appeal candidate because they may be reviewing appeals separately, I heard. I was not an appeal candidate but after my interview, I asked when I should expect to hear and they said "give it 4 weeks but it will probably be sooner than that"

I think the last batch of interviews will not be waitlisted. I think they will be making a final decision on us right then and there... which I guess is good in a way. Let me know what happens. Who did you interview with?

Good luck.... you must be nervous. Is UCLA your first choice? Are you from CA? Please let us know what happens. I am curious to know if people that interviewed as late as us get waitlisted or bypass that and are either accepted or rejected.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
