Thought you guys might me interested in some info I got at the UCLA admissions office yesterday. This is the first time I made any inquiry as to what was going on with my application, and, as it turns out, it has not even been seen by the committee, even though I interviewed in mid-Nov. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but the guy working there told me that they randomly choose a few applications for the committee to look at at every meeting, regardless of when you interviewed. Seems kinda odd, don't you think? If admissions are rolling, shouldn't people who interviewed earlier be reviewed earlier? Does anyone know if what this guy told me is true?

Anyway, if this is true, it might explain why some of us are still sitting here pulling our hair out.

Strokcghik,

I talked to a lady in the office the other day and got a response very like yours.

agghahhgh$#$*#$&#&$&@#$ 😛

I think it's true to some extent. It also depends on your interviewers because if you have your file chosen for review at a committee meeting and your interviewer is not there then you just get pushed back because they can't review your file without them being there.

For what it's worth, someone in their office told me they plan to have a class selected by April 15, so we should hear by then. (not much comfort since that is almost a month away!)

Welcome, strokchik! 🙂

I have to say that the way UCLA is doing things is truly abominable!! 🙁 I feel for you guys. Best of luck, all. 😀

He's the nice ob/gyn guy who's been around forever.

I finally got the nerve to call and inquire about my status (I interviewed a month ago) and the guy told me that my application was currently with the committee and that they would send out the results in April. Good luck to us all!

So, if I have an interview in early April-do you think that it's just for a waitlist position?? Oh I hope not!!

I'm reviving this thread because it seems like so many of us are still waiting. It also looks like people who have been accepted have tended to hear pretty quickly - anywhere between a few days to a month. Has anyone been accepted after a long wait (more than 6 weeks)? I don't whether I should continue to hold out hope for UCLA as a realistic option since I interviewed late Jan. and still no word. Also, anyone been waitlisted yet?

Can anyone out there give hope and promise to the impatient masses?

The website shows that a final decision letter was sent for me on 3/28. I interviewed mid-feb.

I interviewed in mid-November, and still nothing. I think I must be waiting longer than anyone, and it's beginning to make me nervous. I have a feeling that at this point, any word from UCLA will either be a rejection, or a position on the waitlist. But I have nothing concrete to back that up.

ugh...i interviewed mid feb and was told today that my file hasn't gone to review yet. this waiting is brutal!

Dr. Q,
I'm in the same boat as you. I interview the second week of April and I'm hoping that it isn't just for a waitlist spot. Anyone know anything with regard to this?

When do you guys think their cutoff will be for consideration for the April 15th deadline? Also, any speculation as to how many acceptances they will be sending out on April 15th?

Hey bomback if you don't mind would you post when you get your letter?

I interviewed mid-Jan and still nothing. Has anyone asked how many acceptances they've given out? It seems like they have hardly filled up their class, but that's just from reading around SDN...

I'm sure this was covered before, but I can't remember if anyone has gotten waitlisted at UCLA or if it has just been acceptances and rejections so far.

If I can I'll call on Monday and ask them some of these questions as well...

According to the AAMC guidelines, they should have given enough acceptances to fill their class by 3/29. I have also only heard of people who got accepted or rejected pre-interview.

yup, only pre-interview rejects and acceptances. i'm expecting a massive wave of waitlists and post-interview rejects

I called the admissions office today. I was lucky enough to get a very nice lady on the other end, and not that unhelpful/monotoned guy who usually answers. I interviewed in the beginning of feb and still havent heard anything, so I asked her about that. First off, she told me that the UCLA admissions process is NOT random, unlike what the unhelpful/monotone guy always says. She says my application is "pending" while they review other applicants. So apparently, those of us who have waited a long time after the interview are in some sort of hold while they finish reviewing applications. She strongly suggested writing update letters!! I've already written one, but I think I'll send another tomorrow.

Hope that info helps.

Hope that info helps.•••••Hi, what's an "update letter"? Writing about how much you like UCLA? or about your new activities, new grades, etc?

DO they really want you to write these things? THey already have 7000+ apps to go through, and I bet most of them write these letters beggin the adcom to pick them, and I wonder how much diff. it can make? If they have already made a decision on your file, do you think they'd go back to your file and reconsider their decision when they read this "update letter"?

If you send them a letter, it can either help you or do nothing, but it won't hurt you. So why not do everything possible that you can? Plus, the lady at UCLA told me that the adcom wants to be updated with grades and other developments from this year. This is the same with most other medical schools, except the ones that specifically say not to send in anything extra (e.g. USC).

Well,
It can't do any harm to write a letter about how interested you are in UCLA, and adding any interesting things you have done since interviewing or perhaps that you failed to mention in the single faculty interview they offer. I think i will write a letter and send it tomorrow. Thats after I finish the paper 😛 I am trying to write.

SO I called their office this morning and finally asked about my status. I was told that my application had already gone through committee (I interviewed in mid-Jan) and that I should be recieving a final decision letter in a couple weeks.

I also asked if he knew how many acceptances have been given out but he said he didn't know. However, he did say that they are still offering acceptances. It seems that they continue interviewing until they fill the class. Also, Matthew is right...only acceptances have gone out so far. I got the impression that they don't give out rejections and waitlists until after they finish interviewing.

Not so helpful guy was pretty helpful today...just hope his info is valid.

ok, so from reading these posts it seems like UCLA will not mail out rejection & waitlist letters until they are done interviewing. But they have been sending out acceptance letters, at least back in Feb.

So my q is are there any of you who got acceptance letters recently? Is it safe to assume that they have been sending out acceptance letters steadily since Feb? Have they almost filled their class already?

I also called UCLA but the monotone guy wasn't too helpful ! 😡

I have an interview at UCLA on April 4th. I am out of state and was wondering if anyone has any idea if I even have a shot being interviewed this late. ALSO, IF ANYONE COULD PROVIDE ME WITH SOME INSIGHT ON THE INTERVIEW (since interview feedback is still down).

I got in!!!!! So they're still sending acceptances. Good luck to the rest of you still waiting.

hcr I think you still have a good chance becuase even if the class fills up by the time you interview, spots will still open up after May 15th. As for the interview, mine was really a typical interview. My only recommendation would be to know your application well, and to know your activities. Good luck on your interview.

Congratulations Bomback!!!   I'm very happy for you! 2 questions: 1. Did you send them an update letter or a letter of intent? 2. When was your interview?

Congrats Bomback!!!

Is this your top choice?

Thanks. I interviewed in mid February and I did not send any updates or anything after my interview. Pillbug, UCLA is my top choice. I hope you guys hear good news soon too, and that I'll see you guys next year.

major props, bomback

my "final decision letter" entry is still blank, hehe...

So UCLA IS sending out acceptance letters.. BAD NEWS for people like me whose file went through the committee on 3/18 and nothing yet.......

Hey, When did your "final decision sent" date come up on your status website??? Were you going crazy when the date showed up.. LOL

the notification went up on 3/28.

I called the admissions office today and found out some more info. All post-interview decisions (up until now) will be sent "hopefully" by next week. The mailing will include admits, waitlists, and rejections.

She confirmed that no waitlists or post-interview rejections have been sent yet. She also said that the admits will be from throughout the interview cycle, not just the later interviewees.

This waiting is killing me!!

Thanks for the info. I do remember hearing the decision will be notified on 4-15 or 4-29.

hehehee... for almost 5 months i've been hagging over why the process takes so long... now that you say it's coming next week... LOL, ugh, i don't want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

🙂
i've been living in my happy bubble that maybe ucla will take me. but now, that the possible-rejection letter is coming soon, boy, i'm all jumpy

OMG! I can't believe I might hear next week. That is scary, esp since I interviewed fairly recently!! At this point I would rather not know than have to deal with the rejection from my top choice!! Great, now I'm going to be all nervous. 🙂

hey guys, is ucla mailing out all decisions on 4/15, or are they doing them in batches starting Monday (tomorrow??)

Is there any way I can find out over the phone???
I just don't care if it's acceptance or rejection, I need to know!!!

I doubt it will be mailed out tomorrow, though. I've been told TWICE now (one by that monotoned dude and the other by Deanna)that some decisions will be mailed out on 4-15, some "around" 4-29. Whichever date it is we will hear something by the end of this month. I don't know these dates apply to those who interviewed very recently. I won't believe anything told by the office personnel til I get a hard proof of rejection/acceptance/waitlist from the school. BTW. my interview date was in mid January...not a good sign to not have heard anything to this date.
Those of you anxiously waiting, can you share the date of your interview?

2/7 here. And I know for a fact that there are some people who interviewed after me who subsequently got accepted. Not sure what to make of that, but I'm assuming that I'm not going to be accepted. Hopefully I'll at least get a waitlist.

BTW, anyone ever notice the picture of Royce hall on the front page of SDN?

I interviewed 3/22.

To add to the excitement, I refuse to check my status page. I'm going to do this the old-fashion way.

I interviewed on Valentine's Day. Haven't heard a peep since.

Anyone heard in the past couple of days??

Monday is right around the corner, but I just KNOW I'm going to be in the batch that doesn't hear anything til 4/29!!

Check this out:

I'm interviewing at UCLA on April 24th. Crazy ****, eh?

I called today. Monotone guy said my app is still with the committee - no decision yet. (It's supposedly been with the committee for a month - doesn't look good.) He said something will be sent out to me at the END of April. I guess I didn't make the April 15th batch.

I called too. The lady said my file has just gone to the committee, and that I should know by the beginning of MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me while I rip my hair out.

😡 😛

Too bad interviewfeedback.com isn't up. I've been too darn dependent on that site for info.
