Would remove Meharry unless you meet their mission statement. Ohio State might be a reach. Otherwise, the list seems relatively okay. Being a reapplicant I would just leave the list to around 15 just to make sure you hear back from a couple schools.

I wouldn't classify you as non-trad as reapplicants aren't considered that. Usually military or career changers. You definitely don't need 3 dentist LOR's maybe 2 maximum. Just want to make sure the schools get your committee letter as well. IDK how AADSAS works with committee letters if it's just one or multiple.

I don't see any other really obvious red flags. Great improvement on the DAT score. That should make a difference. Get your app in early and lets hope for better results!

DAT 2022:
21 AA 22 TS 23 PAT 18 QR 21 RC
21 BIO 23 ORGO 23 GEN CHEM

DAT 2021:
18 AA 18 TS 21 PAT 17 QR 18 RC 17 BIO
19 GEN CHEM 18 ORGO

My gap year consisted of studying and retaking the DAT. Dental assisting and shadowing. Working with specialties like oral surgery. Those are all things I did differently than my last application.

I applied pretty late last time. End of September to Mid October in 2021. I got 0 interviews and applied to 12 programs.

Would it be frowned upon to have 3 dentist LOR? I have worked with all 3 intimately and extensively. So I know all three would be strong.
Schools see that I have a committee letter which encapsulates the necessity for having science professor LORS. So they would just get one.

Hoping for better results! Looking to apply right on the 30th of May

I don't think it would be necessarily frowned upon, but most, if not almost all schools, do not require a dentist LOR. So it might just be overkill to have 3 letters. However, if you think they each can speak on your behalf in that they think you would be a solid dentist it may be worth your while.

I would reach out to your top programs and see what they say. If they say one is enough, then only submit one. Keep in mind you cannot pick and choose which letters, so you may just have to politely ask your dentists not to send them and choose the strongest letter. A general dentist is better looked at than a specialist.

congrats on the DAT improvement

remove meharry and probably roseman
as long as you understand that THE Ohio State University, columbia and upenn are huge reaches, you can leave them
but i would consider spending your application $$$ on other schools...

Okay I’ll look. All 3 are general dentists. And yes I honestly do think they can speak on my behalf and think I would be a solid dentist. They offered to write letters, I could not pass it up.

Yes Columbia is definitely at the top of my dream list. Some factors that limited my search were that I did not take Anatomy classes. And I could not see myself applying to too many programs out West.
Any recommendations?

have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at the new york dental schools?

Yes. I was part of a pre-dental program at Touro dental 2 summers ago. It provided experience. Would it be volunteer in that I wasn’t compensated or received academic credit?

I also only had 40 hours of shadowing and 1030 hours of volunteer when I applied the first time. And I didn’t finish my senior year yet at undergraduate school. So now I’m applying with 400 hours of shadowing. and 700+ hours of dental assisting. Same volunteering hours.

These programs are "academic enrichment" programs, like SHPEP. On the question, you should be fine with "volunteer experience".

Your earlier submission will help you. Good luck on Casper.

Hi All,
I just wanted to re-connect. Got better results this cycle. 9 interviews. Had my 9th last week. Feeling great. Thank you all for the support and help. Excited to see where I’ll get some good news and stay hopeful.
