WAMC? 22F MN ORM, 3.91 GPA 508->521 MCAT

Sooo I took the MCAT in May expecting around a 514+, ended up with a 508. Locked in for a month and tried to get at least 512 (though felt like I scored even lower this time around), and ended up with a 521.

I have taken PREview (6), will not be taking CASPER

Other stats:

White Female ORM immigrant but naturalized US citizen

3.91 GPA

2500 clinical

1500 research, 2 publications, tons of posters

Little volunteering, like 60 hours reported on my app

Languages spoken: English, Ukrainian, Russian, German (beginner), Chinese (intermediate)

LGBTQ+

Started a small immigrant-centered nonprofit

Any advice is appreciated!

How long have you been working on this non-profit? What does it offer? How about your other 60 hours of volunteering?

Many schools average MCAT attempts when screening. Your 521 should overcome that for some schools, but you must show some serious X-factor energy for some of the reach schools on that admit list. That said, you should apply to Mayo (private in-state) and the Chicago schools (NW, UChicago).

What is your purpose as a physician? What are your plans to disconnect from your non-profit?

I am applying this cycle (i know it is late).

I have about 1000 hours as a ER scribe and 1500 as a respiratory EMT (basically a helper to the respiratory therapists as much as I can with the limited scope of care. Most of my job is giving nebulizers though)

About 500 hours (its actually more but thats what i put on AMCAS) into the nonprofit including self building the entire website (the major goal of the nonprofit). It offers career guidance and support to immigrants as well as connecting them directly with organizations to support them in their cities.

I'm still trying to find my purpose as a physician but my dream (not sure how realistic of a dream it is) is to be an intensivist and potentially work for Doctors Without Borders.

My plan to disconnect is to hand over the governing of the nonprofit to my brother who will be graduating with an international affairs degree

Some schools screen at 150 hours for non clinical volunteering so that will limit your chances for interviews. Top tier schools expect more hours.
