Hi! I am new to the forums, here are my current stats for this cycle, looking for any advice:

I applied to 37 schools this cycle (All MD) and so far I have 1 II (@ CUSM), 1R and 1 II-hold. Should I add some DO schools? Is there anything I can do right now to improve my chances? How are my chances really? I am scared that my application is very bare bones, and would really like to not have to apply for another cycle. I apologize if the answer to all my questions is just wait and see--I am just incredibly anxious right now. Thanks!

600 hrs EMT
400 hrs and pending as MA for family med practice (NEW in gap year)

Research:
1500 hrs Basic science; 1 mid-author, high impact publication; honors thesis; 1 first-author poster

Shadowing:
100hrs (primary, ophthalmology, neuro-oncology)

Volunteer:
900 hrs for local homeless shelter

Other:
600hrs paid biochem tutoring

School list:
I have received and completed secondaries (complete late July/early Aug), for all schools but UC Davis (never received secondary)

1) You list no campus activities. What is your "legacy" as a student where you went to undergrad? What memories did you leave behind that support others' impressions of you as a future servant healer? Or will they just know you as the person who one pays to get biochem tutoring?

2) Why is your 900 hours of homeless shelter volunteering related to your purpose as a physician? How did it guide you to choosing schools on your list?

3) Where in California did you grow up? Many UC medical schools are well-known for picking candidates that have a commitment to or grew up in their part of the state to serve underserved communities.

1) The volunteering is student organized and all outreach is student led. I also did have a leadership position training new volunteers this past year. Beyond that I don't have much campus involvement.
2) I added more service heavy schools to the list because of the volunteering (Drexel, Tulane, Rush), and I did include the experience in my personal statement as motivating me to be a physician, and how it has shown the me types of communities I want to work with.
3) I grew up in Orange County, so not really the Inland Empire for UCR or NorCal for Davis

You could add Methodist to your application when they begin accepting applications in the coming month.

your app looks solid, would be surprised if no oos schools bite. UCs are difficult for everyone. i don't think adding more schools is gonna do much for you, this app is strong enough for MD and if you don't want to go DO don't apply DO
