Hi, 4th year MD student at midtier USMD with no home vascular program in the east coast. Was interested in CTS but pivoted to vascular bc of some aways I did. Some stats:
Nontrad, was a nurse prior to matriculation
P/F school - all Pass, no red flags, no school ranking.
Step 1 - pass 1st attempt
Rotations - High Pass on all rotations, honors in psych, honors in OBGYN, honors in IM and and honored surgery, 1 satisfactory pass in family med, no red flags.
Step 2 - 255
3 subIs in vascular surgery.
LORs - honestly really solid. 1 from surgery director, 1 from vascular surgery research PI who is well known, 1 from general surgery clerkship director, 1 from vascular surgeon I shadowed in a subI
Research: I have 6 papers published with 3 being FA, 5 presentations (2 of them school based), a handful of case reports (idk if they count, but I have 7). I have a couple more cooking but idk if I will have them ready by applications. Most of these papers are in vascular/vascular adjacent fields, none are explicitly CTS.
Extracurriculars: did a little bit of student board stuff but nothing outstanding. Some service with free clinic.
No academic awards.
Am willing to apply everywhere, but have family ties in California and Washington, though I would prefer to be in a metropolitan area. Will be dual applying with gen surgery.
Thanks!
