For those who have been accepted to Wayne, is this going to affect your decision on attending? Would love to hear some feedback. Thanks...
I have been accepted at Wayne State and although I have been accepted at other schools as well, I will still be attending Wayne this fall (I am an Out-of-State, so its not 'cuz it'll be cheaper).
Although the negotiations with DMC is an issue I am following, I don't think it should deter students away from Wayne. Wayne is one of the most strong based and largest medical schools in the country. Even if it does not work out with DMC, Wayne State is actively looking to develop strong ties to other hospitals/institutions like Beaumont and Henry Ford which are very highly respected nationally. Plus, Dean Mentzer in his comments said that he is looking for specific partners that will bring unique assets important to the Medical school. So, this could be looked as an opportunity for growth and advancement.
WSU Medical School's primary priority, I believe, is the quality of education for its huge body of medical students. If the school really thought that breaking ties with DMC would be a major punch to the school's reputation, education and its accredidation status with LCME, the University would have bended a bit in the negotiations to secure a new contract with the DMC.
So, I think changes in hospital affiliations of a medical school is only part of the institutional dynamics and things will begin settling down after December 2006.
Any comments/criticism on my above $0.02 is more than welcome !!
thanks
