Pass line for Nutrition was ~64% - rumor has it that WSU is a little concerned about how we did on that one. Guess that we had "too many" that didn't do very well on it.
don't recall what pass line is for Neuro.

I must be getting less OCD; at the start of the year I would have written down all of the statistics.

The good news is: I passed the nutrition exam. The bad news is: 15 people in our class did not. I went in to see Ms. Conors today at lunch because I have a tendency to freak out about my grades... she said that more people failed nutrition than anatomy!!! I complained to her about how the second years seem to be giving us misinformation about a lot of these exams (I had multiple 2nd years tell me to slack off on the nutrition and worry about neuro). She said to take their advice with a grain of salt.

Also, some advice for genetics from Ms. Conors:
1. The exam will be challenging b/c there will be a lot of problem solving
2. Go to the problem sessions, they will help
3. Make sure you go through and understand all the problems.
4. Practice, practice, practice

She also said the next neuro exam won't be any harder than the first.... so don't freak out about what those damn second years are telling ya'll!!!

I hope that you mean you are done venting and not that you are done at WSU.

Oh well, such is life. Not much more that we can do but suck it up and deal with it. Just remember one more month and we are 25% of the way to our MDs (it is somewhere in the ballpark of 3 years, six weeks and counting until we graduate).

Oh yeah, done ranting. Not done at WSU.. I passed the exam, I'm just pissed about it.

I'm just looking forward to 2nd year, when things get more relevant and maybe, JUST MAYBE, our professors will actually be MD's who aren't out to kill us. It would also be nice to have profs who know what is useful information and what is useful only from the bench.

if my calculations are correct... 56% of wayne staters pursued non-primary care fields (primary care = FP, IM, peds, ob/gyn), which would mean it wouldnt require that you be in the top 25%, assuming there isnt much variation year to year..... 😀

It really sucks that the weather is turning cruddy, again 🙁 ; but on the plus side now the weather is not distracting me from my studying .

I made a flow chart with the inputs/outputs, transmitters, and diseases all labeled. If you're interested, find me in class and I'd be happy to make copies for you. I find it really helps me to make a diagram out of Rafol's notes because they're so dense and crappy....

Is it just me or does all this talk of a mandatory health insurance plan – supplied by WSU-SOM - worry the rest of you?

What I have been hearing is that SOM is going to find a plan that we have to get; unless we are still on our parents insurance.
I think that this sounds like yet another way for WSU to screw us all – especially with the “deal” that the school sponsored health insurance wasn’t this year. How about the rest of you?

dang... i got my estimated cost for one year and it was like $42k .... does this sound right to you guys? I am instate! I was told wayne was one of the cheapst schools... ha!

That is still cheap, if you were going to Georgetown, or another private/out-of-state school, your tuition alone would be 38K. Then throw on living and you are looking at about 60k a year, so rejoice in 40k, hahahaha.

That is pretty much your spending money. Also, there is no way you should spend 1200 on books. I have probably spent 500 max, and I have bought more than was certainly necessary, probably could have gotten by with 300.

Of course, as MS2s we'll be spending more on "books and supplies" because we need to get a diagnostic kit.

To incoming first years, remember to include in your budget all of the fees that you'll be hit with to register for second year - like that "student support fee".

Wish I could claim to be getting my health insurance through a family member, I never realized how darned expensive it is 😱 (went from parents' policy to my former employers policy to having to buy my own).

I have a feeling that this is going to be something like the whole PDA issue. If this new health insurance plan is better than what WSU-SOM had this year that would be a plus (it took the idiots more than a month to get my insurance card to me and they managed to screw up the spelling on my name - it then took ~6 weeks to get them to correct that issue... good thing that I didn't get sick during gross), but I still think that I will be able to find a better deal on my own.

This is really starting to feel like the whole PDA issue; I spent some time talking with some of the folks in Student Affairs that should know what is going on with the health insurance issue (couple of the counselors) and they were little to no help – what a surprise.

Maybe now that I spoke with them they’ll decide to let us all know what is going on before we early register for next year and have to provide our proofs of insurance (but I doubt it).

Sometimes the counselors get notified just as or a little bit after the students do. They get handed down junk from above too and have little to no say in policy, which I think is a crock because they are the people we are supposed to go to first with questions and concerns.

I hope that they let us know, it is starting to get down to the wire.

I'm not going to go into it here, but if it's any comfort, I do have a very little bit more information, and I'm sure that I can explain the "mandatory" aspect of the upcoming health insurance. Reading your posts, Rob, I don't think I answered all of your concerns the other day, and I apologize - I was in the middle of something at the time.

Rest assured, from one student to another, that this won't be a complete crock of **** (although I'm sure Wayne could figure out some way to **** it up). Part of the reason the administration sucks is that none of you hold your Senators accountable, or realize how much influence they had. Did you know that they were the ones to approve this mandatory plan?

In any case, this is not my account or screenname, and I'm too damn lazy to sign up for one on my own. Therefore, I invite all comments and concerns, and I ask that if you have questions, come see me. Really. If you go to Wayne, you'll know how to get ahold of me - I'm around. It works something like this, although there are a few variations, and I don't remember the exact times.

Anatomy practical 12:30-4:30

It's no big deal, you just have to maintain focus which can be difficult if you let it. Although, I don't think there is any relief that finishing that last practical question and knowing that you are done for a month.

Year I schedule

From what I understand your's will be just about the same, just off by a day or two. This should give you a good idea though.

After anatomy and histo it is only one exam per day and that usually is scheduled to take about three hours.

During the first unit half the class is:

Histo exam 8-10
Anatomy exam 10:15-12
Anatomy practical 12:30-4:30
.

Other half of the class starts the day with the practical, does lunch, and then takes the writtens.

Lunches are staggered so that halves of the class have no contact once the exams start.

That’s if you are lucky. I had at least one exam day where it was more like 15 minutes, because we were delayed in getting out of the practical (waiting for the other half of the class to get into the other lab rooms). You can really get burned if the practical runs long. Some folks change into their dissecting clothes for the practical, but I never felt that it was worth the time to change back into street clothes before the writtens.

That would be one month before the next exam. We got about two weeks off for Christmas/New Years (happens after the first biochem and Physio exams), one week for spring break, and get about 9 weeks off for the summer between first and second year.

I got lucky and signed my lease before quitting my job, so I didn't have to worry about that. I would just explain your situation and show them the papers if they ask (which they probably will).

At Wayne, we recieve our financial aid checks once per semester. Make sure you budget out money to pay for all the student support fees, omnibus (not a real bus, I'm sad to say), disability insurance, because the first check comes in the week after you have to register. Talk about bad timing! The second check comes the week after school starts following Xmas break, which is nice because by then I was getting broke from buying presents and my trip to Spain...

I know I won't have the money! I hope they don't expect us to cough up payments before they pass us our checks. At MSU, they always gave us our checks the week BEFORE class starts, is it not like that at Wayne?

The catastrophic insurance we were required to buy if we weren't covered under a different health plan. This year they're supposed to be coming up with some better health plan for the students, but if you're already covered you don't need to worry about it.

Faster, probably. But it is still an unnecessary visit to scott hall before it sucks us in for another year ( ).

I plan on avoiding scott hall as much as I possibly can after May 19 (which will probably mean a single visit to check my scores – at least I hope I won’t have to show up to retake any exams).

Ahh, many of you were duped by the school once again. You see, my permanent address is in Oakland County. So, what will I do... stroll into one of their health department branches at my leisure, without an appointment. Pick a number. Get a FREE TB test. Return 3 days later, and presto I'm done. No getting up at 8am and paying $5.
