I predict an average of 99.97% for that exam. No complaints though

katrinadams9 said:I agree. Easiest exam I've ever taken. I finished in 15 minutes!!!
yeah, that is what happened with our last biochem exam. i guess there were like ~20 of the ~70 questions were from the biochem book, which is why the guy complained that the exam was too easy.Shangal said:fun8stuff, trust me, you don't want to be in our class. I think we broke the record in a couple of our exams with our high averages. Your class simply doesn't matchup with ours
And yeah we had an easy exam today, but derm was supposed to be easy. And the average is not going to be 90%, it might be in the high 80s, but it won't break a 90. The exam had a couple of tricky questions, and getting more then a couple of questions wrong will get you screwed.
The only wierd thing about this exam is that we had the answer of at least 10 questions before the exam even started. It was awsome.

Thanks
fun8stuff said:cfdaavid: sorry i don't know the guy. the only advice i have to give is that if you think that it did not go well and did not give an accurate representation of your qualifications, then you can request an additional interview. however, perhaps you are making it a bigger deal than what it is?

Meaning, you will have lectures on anatomy, histo, and biochem all mixed under the topic of neuro. It's more like 2nd year in that way. By far the highest yield stuff is learning the nerve pathways and what happens if that pathway is lessioned at a given point. Very easy stuff on the exam if you put the time into learning it, kind of like anatomy.
Some words of wisdom about nutrition. It sucks. Sardesai will give you all sorts of extraneous information from his book that you will not be tested on. The lectures are a waste of time. The notes suck. I read the notes once, and then memorized this 20 page study sheet and honored the exam. I don't have the study sheet, I just checked, but it should be floating around out there somewhere. Everything on the exam was in those 20 pages. Good luck.

rdsh346 said:yea sorry to intrude too...but noone on the premed board knows the answer to my question. I was placed on the alternate list today...is this bad news considering its the end of Feb. I know the list is prioritized by interview date, so it seems like i'm on the bottom of the pile. Did you or your friends get in off the alternate list this late? thanks...
Shangal said:yeah get that study sheet, I stopped reading nutrition after vitamins, was focusing to much on neuro, and I got to a point where I thought I was going to fail it, even right before I took the thing. I was studying with this other guy who didn't even look at the notes. But what we both did is memorize that study packet. Every single question was in that packet. And we both ended up honoring the class. Don't believe what other people in the class are going to say, like Dr. Sadersai (I think I misspelled his name) that he found out about the packet and he is going to change the questions, trust me, he is not going to put the effort.
The only thing I learned last year was that faculty are lazy, and they use the same questions every year.
Neuro wasn't as easy as ddmo is making it. I thought the first unit was rough, just find Dr. goshgarians lab and understand everything he tells you and you will be fine. The first unit of neuro is kind of like anatomy which I hate, but the second unit is more like physiology which I think is more interesting.
fun8stuff said:so is this study packet just something that circulates between the students then??

katrinadams9 said:In other news... have any of ya'll been on the WSU forums? It looks like Dr. Jackson has paid us a visit. Either that or someone is pulling a mean prank...
dancinjenn said:fun8stuff...I have the packet on my email...pm me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. It didn't get sent out on the listserve last year because I think students were afraid of getting ripped by admin. Please make sure that you distribute it to your friends though.
Katrina & Soleil - It was just a prank. Besides I don't think that they have the authority to pull the site as it says that it is student run. I'd like to see them try! At that point we would just set it up with a different name again.

katrinadams9 said:I sure as hell wish I'd gotten a copy of that thing last year. I believe I got a 64% in the class (luckily passing was a 56)! That was my ****iest gade ever!!!
UMP said:Sorry to intrude on your thread, but I was looking at WSU's averages and a 3.6 GPA is quite high... Any of you think a low 3-point can be made up for with a high 30s MCAT ? It seems like people that go to Wayne generally have the higher GPA, lower MCAT combo rather than the other way around... thanks for any tips
WingsBelieve84 said:Do you guys know much about how accomodating Wayne is in letting 4th year students do some rotations at hospitals across the country? In genereal even, how well does Wayne help with residency applications and such? Thanks!
Shangal said:Dr. Sadersai is a good guy. He actually was standing outside of the exam room to talk to students after the exam was over. I just wanted to hug him or something. And trust me, the reason so many people failed this class is because nobody studied for it. Our neuro average on the other hand was insanely high, I think it was one of my lowest in the year and I studied hard for it. I think I got an 80 and that was something like 420. The average was something like 84%, again because everyone studied for it really hard.
Oh and the average in derm was 86%, I knew it wasn't going to be in the 90s, it was not as easy as people thought it was going to be.
MD'05 said:420? Not to be mean, but you all should be floating around the 500 mark for Z-scores. That info will go into your Dean's letter for residency application.

katrinadams9 said:Do you know how hard that is to do with our class of gunners? Our 500 z-score usually works out to be an average of 80-85% (sometimes higher) on every exam. I busted my ass off studying for the last exam. I was actually sure I had nailed it too and when I looked at my grade I was very pleased because it was one of my highest of the year. Then I look at the average and see that it is 1.5 points higher than my grade.
Whatever happened to the whole logic that year 1-2 grades don't count as much as year 3-4 and USMLE scores on residency application? Are you saying this logic is false???
MD'05 said:420? Not to be mean, but you all should be floating around the 500 mark for Z-scores. That info will go into your Dean's letter for residency application.
Shangal said:yeah, I don't think the dean has time to look at our individual exam scores and then write a recommendation letter accordingly. To be honest I don't even think he has our overall Z-score for each class we take, he only knows the Ps and Hs on our transcript. And whether or not we honored the year, whether or not we get AOA, and our class rankings.
I know it sucks, but it looks like I won't be in the top quintile in my class when I graduate, so I know I am not going to get a top residency spot, but at this point I don't care anymore, and never implied that I did. But thanks for reminding me that I am screwed when I apply for residencies
By the way, MD05, what was your class ranking? and where did you match?
