Western c/o 2015 Applicants

Wondering why some people are getting rejections before others? Why don't people get rejected all at once, do they work their way up from the bottom or something?

Just wondering why rejections are trickling in one at a time...

Yeah... has anyone been rejected or offered an interview without having received the "your application is complete" e-mail? I still haven't gotten mine...

Be patient... I didn't get an interview invite until after interviews had already started... it's a tough wait.

Are the rejection letters being sent to your permanent or current address?

Are they relatively accommodating on the interview dates, if we are offered one? I noticed elsewhere that someone mentioned dates on 2/12, 2/14, and 2/15. I have an interview and stuff in Minnesota 2/11 and 2/12... I'm kind of concerned about the possibility of a last-minute surprise that conflicts with Minnesota.

This year they gave me eight interview dates to choose from. So I think you should definitely be able to arrange it around Minnesota, provided you email the school back with your preferred date.

I would say that they are pretty flexible for the interview dates. I believe that when you get your invite, they list the dates that are still available at the time you received your invite. (They're on Mon, Tues, and Sat. with 2 interview groups each day.) They ask you to reply with your top 2-3 preffered dates. It seems like the Saturday dates fill up first.
I feel for the OOSers because the flights probably become more expensive as you book them closer to your interviews. I think they should send out their invites well in advance so you dont have to spend too much.
I remember hearing about east coasters flights being grounded last year because of snow and these interviewees were given an interview at a later date.
But yes, the invites will trickle out of their adcoms even when interviews are underway. So until then, :xf: and :luck:

Afternoon, all!

We are still processing approximately 200 applications. If you have not heard from your admissions counselor since receiving the VMCAS and Supplemental Application received e-mail please feel free to e-mail them to inquire about your status.

Interview invitations are being sent out as files are returned from the Admissions Committee. Our interview dates are on Saturdays, Mondays, and Tuesdays this year and we expect to interview approximately 60 candidates per day.

If, after a review of your file has been completed, you are not selected for an interview you will receive a letter in the mail. Please be sure to keep your mailing and contact information current to ensure a timely notification.

I wish you all the best of luck. You have all certainly worked hard to get to this point! Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have!

Wow, thanks for the update, and being involved!

So if they are interviewing approximately 60 people per day and there are 9 interview dates (unless they add more) that means there are 540 people being interviewed for 105 spots 😱!

This doesn't seem right based on what I've read in the past. The odds seemed WAY better on the interview last time I looked.

Any guesses as to rather interviewing earlier or later is better for your chances?

BTW got my interview today! Congrats everyone.

agreed, i think the stats posted online said they interviewed about 300 people for roughly 100 spots, which sounds a lot more reasonable

Got my invite today! While I was napping, no less. I can't count how many times I was like, "Oh boy an email! Oh, it's just Orbitz/PetCo/junk. Poo." I wasn't even thinking about it today, so I had to pause and squint... "Does that say... Western? WHAT!?"

Congrats TT. I'm really glad to hear you got an interview invite! How much time did they give you to make travel arrangements for your potential dates?

The earliest date you can pick is the 29th, and the latest is February 15th. I picked any of the three Saturdays, with first choice being the one the furthest away from my glut of midterms, which is of course the 29th. Looks like tickets are sitting at $520 right now, round trip... eep. Hope I hear soon so I can book!

I e-mailed with no response should I call???

You can't judge by past years. Remember that Western is a newer school so the applicant pool is likely getting larger now with more graduates out there.

Very annoying but I just withdrew my application, so I am done for this year. Good luck everyone! And TT especially you!

.
When you interview does not matter as far as your chances. As I understand it if you pass the interview round, your file goes to the dean and he will hand pick the class all at the same time.
Good luck!:luck:

ack... toughie: Just got an email from Western saying my exercise physiology class doesn't fulfill the physiology requirement and that to be considered for an interview I need to register for a physiology class.

But... what if I take the undergrad class (I'm working on my masters) and then end up not even getting an interview??? (There's no grad level physiology class at my school)

I wish they would say "If you take this class you'll get an interview," so it would be way easier to decide what to do! Because, if I register for the class, get the text book etc, and then don't get an interview, I'll be out a lot of money, not to mention time!

Any help making this decision?

This is EXACTLY what they told me essentially (except my undergrad physiology course does not fulfill their requirement, which is stupid because the only reason it is a 100 level course is for our pre-nursing students to take it first year). And I am in THE SAME situation (Masters, there is an undergrad class but it does not fulfill any of my masters requirements). I just withdrew my application as we are already 2 weeks into classes, and the only class available for me to take is the second of a second semester series.. and I'm already at my 15 credit level max. It's not worth my aggravation to drop classes I've already started and take one that will not fulfill any requirement, and as of right now I am planning on graduating a semester early. And I doubt I would of gotten an interview.

Good luck with your decision though! I totally get how you feel.

I just read the Western threads from the last two years, and aside from making me paranoid... I think this thread is way quieter than it was in years past, and I find that unacceptable!

Anyone else interviewing on the 29th that hasn't posted it yet? Anyone else staying at Shilo? Anyone else stuck with a Sunday flight because the lasest they could find on Saturday was a 2:00?

Interviewing on the 5th, I can't remember the name of the hotel where I am staying this year (too nervous about my KSU interview to think right now), I stayed at the Shilo suites last year and they were nice. I am driving since I live in the state next door. 😀

For those in need of physiology - ever thought of taking this course at a local community college? That's what I'm doing because before I applied I found that my equine physio classes wouldn't satisfy the requirement. The cost is minimal and you can probably still sign up!

TT- I'm interviewing on the 29th too! I'm flying into LAX (chose this because it was a lot cheaper from the east coast) next Friday and leaving around midnight Saturday....not looking forward to all of the traveling...but very excited to see the school and meet other applicants!

Interviewing on the 29th and staying at Doubletree. I have a Sunday morning flight back, which isn't too bad.

I'm interviewing on the 29th as well!
I'm lucky enough to have a friend that goes to USC, so I'll be staying with her.

Can't wait to see you all there!😀

🙂 Congratulations to everyone who got their interviews since I last dropped by this thread!! I wanted to be there when you guys were interviewing, but it looks like the available scheduled times to volunteer coincided with one of my rotations or something or other.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions 😀. Also, SDN dinner on a Sat sounds interesting.

I'm thinking about taking physiology online. Anybody have any recommendations where to take it?

Hey all! So I just found this website and am still waiting for Western and Penn's decisions. I'm so nervous because it seems like I'm being strung along for now. I just want the rejection already so I don't keep my hopes up!

Good luck to everyone with interviews at Western. So exciting =)

Western still has to go through quite a few files, and they have a lot of interview dates that are certainly not filled yet, so just be patient. As for Penn, they always do interviews in rounds, and if you mentioned equine med as a focus they have a special interview day at the Bolton center (separate from the main campus) for those folks, usually later than the other applicants. And, I doubt they are done with regular interviews either. So, chin up! Game's not over yet.

As for the other Western interviewees (hah), PM me so I'll know to look for you! I might even tell you my name! And is anyone else staying at the Shilo Hotel (not the suites)?

That's exactly who I'm waiting to hear from. Glad to know that we're all in the same boat. Good luck!

Thanks so much! That was really informative. I was so nervous that they were just stringing me along for the rejection but its good to know that theres still hope! Good luck to you TT. It seems like your very knowledgeable about everything having to do with the application process. You've absolutely earned these interviews.

BLancellotti, that's so good to hear! I only know two other people who haven't heard back from Penn yet but it seems from these forums that a bunch of people have already interviewed and been accepted. I'm just so nervous about Western!!

So, is it weird that I considered driving down from Santa Barbara for a dinner/meetup. I didn't get my supplemental in time for Western, otherwise I'd have an actual reason to go down to the LA area. Everyone just seems so cool. And I'm a dork, and I'm leaving now.

Hey, now. You braved the supplemental along with the rest of us... IMO, dinner is totally in order!

Well, for you, anyway. I'm not interviewing on the 29th... see "200 apps still being processed" post above (*twitch*). 😉

I feel your pain, I'm still waiting for both too and hope I didn't jinx the whole process by talking about it. Anyone else get superstitious in this process? Hahaha! I don't know what's worse the actual "wait" or knowing that so many others have heard..

Keeping my :xf: for Western!!

I'd love to do an SDN dinner on Saturday! The only thing is I'm staying at a hotel in the Pasadena area and flying out of LAX late Saturday night...any chance we could meet up on the western side of Pomona or closer to/in LA??

I'm depending on current students for both a ride, and to decide where we'll go. Otherwise, I have no idea. We'll probably leave Pomona, but I dunno where we'll end up. I guess we can figure things out on the day of?

Hi everyone! I am new here, but found this site awhile back. I think this site is tremendously amazing! Does anyone else have an interview on January 31st? I will be in town on Saturday the 29th if anyone would like to meet up. I am staying at the La Quinta in Ontario, is anyone else? DVMDream are you coming from NV?

Heya, new to SDN as well 🙂
Interview 1/31/11, staying in Pomona. I'm from Pittsburgh (Woot Steelers!) and am flying in tomorrow so I don't miss this interview no matter how much snow falls. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'll be interviewing on Monday, Feb 7th. I fly into LAX on Saturday, and I'll be in Pomona Sunday-Tuesday. Anyone else around during that time? Maybe interested in dinner on Monday?

I found out yesterday from admissions that my application was going to be "processed" yesterday. Is that the same as reviewing or does it have to be processed, then reviewed..

Good luck to SDN interviewees tomorrow. Unfortunately I wont be there. Remember to be yourselves and relax and have fun with it.
