Shoot.. 4am Sunday morning.. time to sleep so I can get up and study some more. I took a nap while I was studying at school tonight so that must've propelled me to stay up tonight.

Vince- Oh.. I thought they had mentioned something about where to meet after lab. We'll find somewhere to meet next time. The driving range/9-hole course can be found easily by driving north on Indian Hill Blvd. Once you past Foothill, keep on going North and you will see the course on the right-hand side a mile or two down the road. There is a high school across the street from it on the left side.

Innerpower- Man what were you and Pyoj playing.. ping pong?

SammyK- Thanks for the encouragement. I might want to invest in another club.. be it driver or putter.. before I get onto the course... or just figure out how far I can shank the ball with my fairway wood. (the only non-iron I have) I like your swing though.. it's very compact.. reminds me of a power hitter in baseball. 😀

Yosh2- I agree.. people who are out for themselves kinda suck. That was sometimes a constant mentality found among some of my undergrad classmates. I think that attitude will always be found at any med school I believe although some to a higher degree than others. Still, there are people I know that get the grades and they take time out to blindly help others.. those are some of the classmates I admire the most here.

Pyoj- Gonna be at school tomorrow? Need my ID card back or else they'll strip search me at the front desk.

Might want to just give Diamond Bar Golf Course a call so you can see what their pro shop will let you demo. Then call me up and tell me when you are going. 😛 (And then call Vince up to rub it in.. hehe)

Yosh2, my comment about your "tinky winky" was in jest. I don't assume to know anything of your manhood. But what I can assume is that you seriously lack creativity in your choice of nicknames...dude, get your own...
Yes, my comments can be immature at times. But you know what? It keeps me sane, when I have to constantly bust my keester to stay afloat. See, I find it useful to laugh and be busy/productive instead of constantly griping about how bad things are...

To everyone else I'm all about playin racquetball if anyone is interested. I usually go to the La Verne LA Fitness because they have nifty new courts...

I cannot freaking believe that we are all still going on about this Policy BS. HOLY MOLY. I have to say I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.. thanks for the comedy guys... keep it up. Microbiology suks

Later

Yosh2, whoever you are, I doubt your choice of medschools was based on the thilling professional demeanor that you would find there. We are all in this together for better or worse. I have to say that it IS rather High-School-ish. I cant wait to play paintball. woo hoo

Yeah, those LaVerne courts look good... I still forget to look when I go during primetime to see how crowded they get. Worst case, Diamond Bar LaVerne doesn't get too crowded.. racquetball and basketball courts. Chino Hills always seems to be packed.. even when we went this morning after the exam to play basketball. I guess it is a really popular gym for a sizeable area.

I tried to study tonight right after anatomy lab (got out at 5pm) and promptly fell asleep for 80% of the time. Guess I will listen to my body and rest up tonight heh.

innerpower-let's not ever talk about the yankees ever ever again. let's go mets!!!

adimso-you really wanna sign up for paintball? find me later... 😉

yosh2-you're here and stressing with the rest of us so just make best of the time you have. remember what Kiick said, "let's look at the BIG picture," right?

everyone else-mmmmm...yummy smagma...was that on our micro exam?

~pyoj

sure feels great getting out before 3pm on a tuesday. 😀

next week's pharm.

it'll be a piece of cake compare to micro, right?

this week is time to catch up on anatomy.

oh, we can't neglect biochem either.

what was up with dr. kiick today letting us out 15 min. early?

To all current and future COMP medical students:

Like Dan, I am an MSII and I also have to say that I am quite happy with my education at COMP. Sure, the administration have their own agenda and some of the faculty have improvements to make in their teaching but I am sure that I am getting a top rate education here. There are many people pulling great grades in our class, and these were many of the same people who did well last year. The fact of the matter is that GPAs at COMP are largely set by the end of our MSI year. Anatomy and Neuroanatomy are weighted so heavily that your class rank is basically dependent on these two courses.

In terms of people complaining about class rank and class averages, the weaker students always complain about how it is other people's fault how poorly they are doing and never there own. All of the "A" students in my class are very satisfied with their education at COMP. Top residencies at both allopathic and osteopathic hospitals have taken (or recruited) our students and many COMP alumni are chief residents in their programs. If you look at www.do2004.com, our match list is impressive. We have people going to Johns Hopkins, UCSF, Loma Linda, and USC. Graduates from previous years have also done their residencies at Einstein, Harvard, Yale, etc.

You MSI's have a great rapport with each other and that is important as you guys go through this challenging, yet rewarding year. You will meet great friends and have a lot of fun as well as work your butts off. I have to admit, the first two years of school suck because you spend so much time reading and hearing about medicine but don't really get to apply your knowledge. Last summer I participated in the AAFP Summer Preceptorship program and my preceptor was impressed by my knowledge gained from my MSI year at COMP. Believe me, you guys know more than you think you do.

To all you applicants and acceptees who are considering COMP, I still believe this is a good school. Local medical schools appear to be recruiting our graduates because we have the reputation of working very hard and having a solid knowledge base. Also, the grades and Board scores don't necessarily mean you will be successful in medicine. I just learned from a 4th year that a resident with great grades and board scores was just dismissed from the residency program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (COMP's main teaching hospital). The guy evidently looked great on paper but couldn't get the job done in his residency program.

Good luck guys,

Edgar Han

Innerpower- Hah.. I think we all clapped for Kiick because we missed his ass-kicking us.. his lectures kept us honest. (good and bad) At any rate, he just wanted to finish up the packet and not kill us on our first morning back to biochem. Ooof.. when I think about how much more material we have until we take the final.. =/.

I think I need goggles for racquetball.. I have a knot in my stomach seeing those hazard stickers with a ball flying into someone's eyes. It's kinda like splashing acid around without safety goggles in chem. lab.. heh.

melancholy

what goggles! 😀

they'll just get in your way when you're sweating like hell trying to catch up with the ball.

it feels funny posting this when you're sitting right next to me.

STRESSS STRESSS STRESSS..... I am soooo ready to go out on Saturday and Pain the MSII class Pink... why pink you ask... becuase they are a bunch of pansies.... WOOOOHOOOOO Paintball!!!!

Yeahhh paintball paintball paintball... grrrrrrrr!!!!! First pass effect.. flank.. maximum efficacy.. check six!

Micro is back...and I LOVE MICRO.....aahhh...nothing like a good grade before the weekend...and the pharm exam....of course...gotta nail this one...b/c I hear the next one is BRUTAL..

Speaking of brutal...how we feelin' about Path??? lab....path???

Ohhh...boy....We're in for it!!!

Yeah, next pharm. exam is worse... but at least we will have some time to study for the third one before it kicks our butt. Someone mentioned they heard from a second year to start studying for the third/second pharm exam now??

Nice job on Microbio. I thought it had disaster potential, but it came out a little better than I expected. I forgot it was out of 60 questions instead of 50 so I had a little extra buffer.

- I spent a few minutes looking at our old posts in the beginning of this thread.. pretty funny stuff seeing how friendly and excited we all were. No wonder the second years had fun reading all our stuff... and they were mostly pretty relaxed over the summer (thus the overall jovial mood in the thread). I barely even remembered someone named SaintM posting.. and I finally figured out who Teloola is.. my memory is so bad!

SammyK, Pyoj, and Vince- Just DO it. (Golf that is) Pyoj's gotta check out his brand new shiny clubs. I just asked my dad to bring some clubs back when he flies back home (Houston) from Taiwan. I thought clubs were cheaper in Taiwan, but actually they are more expensive in general since they mostly by Japanese products and the least expensive ones are the American ones! At any rate, when I go home from Christmas maybe I'll come back with something big to play with depending on how I like the woods. My mom mentioned something about an $800 driver??!?!? Japanese brand I guess...

$800 for a driver? Probably a Honma driver.

My uncle has one that's over a grand!

He better be a single player with a driver like that!

Oh, yah. He is a single player. 😀

How do you like your new clubs so far, pyoj?

Nice job going with the Callaway! 🙂

Single player? You mean his handicap is in the single digits.. or he hits with only one club? =p

My parents told me that apparently Japanese golf clubs are more geared towards Asian.. I suppose they are easier to hit with for those who might not be as large in stature. It probably helps for the older folks too.

Dang, I looked at the next few weeks.. if we didn't have a no-test Monday and Thanksgiving break, we would be toast.

Mr. "Meandering Stream",
Get your ass signed up here...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!
I'll come for ya in Gross Lab...don't you think I'll forget...I'll get Chief Sitting Bull on yer ass!!!!

Uh oh, do we have another lurker who reads but posts nothing?

Pyoj- Let's tell them to "bring it" 😛

Meandering stream? Is that supposed to be some sort of relaxation technique you people learn about in yoga?

BRING IT!!!!

i wanna yell at more people 😀
wow...4 hours of path...wow...this sucks...at least keyser's austrailian accent is keeping me entertained.

~pyoj

[In thick Crocodile Hunter Australian Accent]

Danger...Danger...Danger....Croit!!

Who is this person you're trying to get signed on?

Yeah, how about that 4 hour path marathon...
How's that for you?

I think whoever made the schedule "brought it."

Too bad I was too tired to "bring it" back.

If anyone is interested, someone started a COMP thread regarding the summer anatomy programs.. so if you want to put in some input that would be great. Thanks.

Anatomy.....Aggghhhh

SOMEONE PLEASE PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY!!!!

Dr. Parsa's lecture is sucking my will to live....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

🙂

Greg

Ahh.. a nice Saturday evening of drinking and studying.. how relaxing!

🙂

got another 4 hrs of path.. ooh.. i'll see you guys at 2pm for genetics heh. (j/k)

What ever happened with those students who did fill out their Biochem Scantrons right? Did Kiick have a change of faith?

-Eric

It was resolved on Friday...

The 1st offense will be forgiven....and woe to anyone who doth travel that road twice in their COMP lifetime..

By the way....you could always come down and talk to us directly....

Just a FYI

Thanks Yosh... yes I know I could ask, but I was a little bored in class and wanted to post something on the board 🙂

Yeah, it looks like everything worked out in the end although I wouldn't recommend mismarking ID and test version numbers in the future... it pays to be careful, even if you are filling out the mundane information on a test!

**Just wanted to thank Innerpower, Pyoj, and esp. SammyK, my golf cart COMPadre (no pun intended hah), for an awesome day my first time out to the links! Unfortunately, you have planted the seed and I will be hitting some balls ASAP so I can actually get close to a par next time around! 😀

Oh yeah.. Happy Thanksgiving SDN'ers! Good luck studying, relaxing, hitting balls (opps.. that's just me), and studying some more for next week! Stay safe..

How sad.. I think I am turning into an soft tissue/HVLA addict although I need a pretty low table for some of the techniques.. otherwise I cannot sufficiently position my epigastric region over the pt's elbows and apply a quick thrust at a 45 degree angle cephaladly to the A-P plane.

Haha.. 2:20am and I'm reading Robbin's..

Anyone notice this? On page 55 in chapter 3 (Acute and Chronic Inflammation) they have Figure 3-5 which shows a muscle sample from a rat. In parentheses, it says (cremaster). More specifically, "This is a laminar muscle of the rat (cremaster)..." All I can say is poor rat. 😀

With all these exams coming....we have apparently FALLEN off the board....

***BUMP***

hey sorry to be invading the class of 2005 thread, but i am a member of the 2006 class and some of you have helped me out with my questions thus far...which is really really greatly appreciated..............one more question though, I have this Atlas of Human Anatomy - Frank Netter- sitting here in front of me.........and I am thinking this looks like way too much! Where would u suggest I start if I just wanna get a jump on things.....I have some free time and I've already enjoyed enough time off........Anyways.......Thanks, everyone and anyone's help, please??? and if this isn't the best book to start with, what would be...?........Thanks!!!

what page is the sternotesticular ligament on netter???????

Yeah, what happened to us?

Oh that's right, I knew there was something I was supposed to be studying over break--take your pick rather.

Sternotesticular ligament....I believe there is a lymphatic technique that deals with it, but only after performing the thoracic inlet and pelvic diaphragm. Make sure it is out of the way first.... 😱

H-towncomp-
If you have never taken anatomy before, I would recommend starting with the Anatomy Coloring Book by Kapit. It doesn't have everything that you are responsible for in Netter and there are a few name changes; but I felt it was helpful to start with. If you can get through most of the coloring book, then I would start worrying about Netter. I would also recommend learning the bones. The professors assume that you know the bones and the topography of the bones so they never go through them and you have 1 or 2 bones on the lab practical.
Hope this helps! Congratulations on your acceptance! 😎

With the OMM practical over (i cant believe how much i sweated that exam), its time to eat tropical Skittles and study for path... right across from VDUB, he started this thread.

Path is rumored to be definitions and some basic concepts. 8 more exams to go. good luck everyone.

Rock on Kemosabi!!!!

Almost there....not really..but it sounds good....

Using the rollercoaster analogy...

We are at the top of the hill....looking at the downward hill....its MIGHTY steep...and sees to have some up-side down loops too.....

ITS ON NOW!!!!

ITS ON!

Hold up your hands...everyone yell..."Whee!!!"

yosh, you know I don't normally post , but I couldn't resist. I don't feel like I am on a rollercoaster but rather flowing around the ring of a toilet waiting in horror for it to flush. Help me! help me !

Wow.. who would've thought USC1992 would be back on SDN 😀

adismo- ooh.. I wish the path exam had only been definitions and basic concepts...

Funny that I made fun of the 45 degree angle thing for the K-Krunch.. I got docked a point because my thrust wasn't considered close enough to 45 degrees...

SammyK- I'm feeling some muscle spasm of my sternocremasteric muscle (SCM II) whenever I turn my head.. can you possibly help restore my muscle to proper function?

Htowncomp- Congrats on your acceptance! I think teloola brought up a good point for the coloring book! I would probably start with that.. then perhaps ask for more suggestions afterwards. The course has a definite "path" in what parts of anatomy are covered in each third of the course so starting with the first third would probably be logical. The Netter Atlas is what we use for the entire course.. when we first started, we never thought we'd go through half of it.. but whenever I flip to a page now, chances are I recognize most of the structures... so you will become intimate with Netter soon enough!

USC,

In refernece to your long awaited post...I reply.....

"Baby, You know I'd love to be your "Tidy Bowl Man..I'd love to circle around your...(ahem) Let's allow for a small amount of decency, shall we???"

Especially after practicing my OMM skills on you last Friday....

SCHA-WING!! SCHA-WING!! SCHA-WING!!

Need I say more???

Inventory Check...

1) Cremaster (check)
2) Pudendal (check)
3) Parasympathetic (aka 😛 OINT) (CHECK CHECK)
4) Sympathetic (aka: SHOOT) (ahha!!..thought
I was gonna say CHECK..Not yet...!!!)

....but I am confident that it is working...

XOXOOXOXO

L.A. Yosh

Just checking in.. at 5am Saturday morning.. but I won't be going into anatomy lab till later. I'm not really a morning-type of person when it comes to anatomy lab. Hopefully I will see you guys in there sometime this weekend though. Good luck studying.. stay warm!

Just taking a study break and reading the posts...hey, what ever happened to YOSH2???

To the first years, good luck on your last Anatomy exam of the semester! Trust me, it will be so much better next semester! Make sure you celebrate!
😀

meloncholy-I don't know if we've met before?? You might have seen me come down to your class frequently to bug all your classmates to buy those T-shirts for CMSA... 🙂 ...By the way, my class and I would like to know if we should be expecting a "skit" soon!

Gotta get back to studying Respiratory! Eek!

Kira, MSII

Kira,
In reference to the skit...It was originally planned to be the week of Thanksgiving...but due to unforeseen exam blizzards...we were a little held back...but it is on schedule for early next semester I believe...
I am not the one running the skit...but this is what I have heard trickling down the "grapevine"

As far as YOSH2...to the best of my knowledge...it has been put to rest...and I can once again post freely...without feeling "infringed-upon"..or having people asking me why I am soo unhappy and disgruntled...

I am not running around blissfully pulling daisies out of my ass...but I am far from borderline POSTAL... 🙄 😉 😱 😀

Oh I don't know Yosh, are you sure you're not even the slightest bit POSTAL..... 😛

Melancholy...about that Sternocremastic (SCM).... I found some High velocity/High amplitude techniques in an old Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine journal....although the next chapter was about a discussion on it probably causing impotence. I feel it is only my position to inform you in order to allow you to make the best informed decision.... 😛

Sadly....I kind of miss Yosh2. I want to see another online war so PYOJ can tell people to "bring it." With all the exams there's got to be some people ready to "bring it back." 😉

And it's off to start some biochem...
