I got an interview with a 25 MCAT...
Anyone have the link to Western's residency match list? I looked around their site and couldn't find it. Thanks!

I can tell you this much about Western--they have a very thorough primary and secondary screening process...so if you got invited for the interview, your odds of being accepted are somewhere up in the 75%ile!
Here are the exact numbers from last year cycle:
Applied: 3227
Interviewed: 576
Accepted: 500+ (this number wasn't listed, just told during presentations)
I THINK the first (of two) $1,000 deposit was due 12/14 regardless of what date you are accepted. The second one comes on March 13th. *someone can correct me on this if I am in error.*
Their tests are mutliple choice and short answer. And occur every 2-3 weeks.
They have a program where you can start anatomy over the summer and work as a TA during the Fall of M1. Other than that, all summers are off and we are free to do research or international aide work.

-Arrowhead
-Corona
-i missed the others...
International Rotation sites:
-Taiwan
-Japan
-Mexico
-Armenia
-South America (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador)
-South Africa

The class size is 222 students. Students rotate through certain schedules that they previously ranked so as to avoid over-crowding. There are a lot of other health students on campus too. Meeting new people shouldn't be a problem, besides most are super friendly and happy with their choice.
They follow a system's based approach which incorporates basic and clinical sciences when studying an organ system of the body. The classes follow the didactic style of learning (think lecture).
The only traditional class is Anatomy. They felt it worked better if students just focused solely on this and learned it all at once.
Tuition is $41,350 and TOTAL living expenses are at $65,049.

I need some help.
I really need to find out what life is like during 3rd and 4th year at Western. My main concern is having to move around or be away from home for a month or months at a time.
Can we put some collective interviewee brainpower together and piece together some info? I'm at a loss and I don't have much time.

I think that as long as you have a car, you shouldn't have to move around while rotating, unless you choose the NW track. Some of the sites that Matt has mentioned, such as Chino, Arrowhead, and Corona, are relatively close (within 20 min or less driving, but remember that there may be traffic). Long Beach is a little farther, I would assume that might be a 45 min drive (again, that changes with traffic). I guess it depends on how much you hate or are willing to tolerating commuting everyday, but I don't think you would have to move every few months.
Any of you current students out there might be able to add more insight about this and correct me if I'm wrong! 😳

Are there enough opportunities around to not have to move around during 4th year?
That was the impression that I had. You CAN move if you want, but you don't have to.
It seems to me that they have enough local opportunities, especially if you end up going into primary care. But it'll depend on your definition of local. 😀
I'm more concerned with being within driving distance to fourth year specialty rotations.

Hey Guys. I have used this website a lot to get info but this is my first post.
I interviewed at Western on Oct 2nd and just got a letter today saying im on the alternate list. COMP is my top choice so this was pretty brutal news.
Wondering if anyone had an idea of how good a chance i still have of getting in. I know its early but i don't know what that means for being on the alternate list.
my stats are 34S ... 3.0 overal 3.1 science
I dont even know if my numbers play a role at this point in the game. I just feeling pretty bummed about not getting in. Any info would help. thanks

I know that sucks but I still think you have a good shot so hang in there. I'm guessing the 75% acceptance rate of interviewees includes people off the wait list.👍

Yes, it does include WL movement. I'm probably going to give up my spot to stay on the East Coast.

In LA, everything is within driving distance. haha. Just depends on traffic for how long it takes to get there.
I commute to my school which is 20 miles away. I commute against traffic, so traffic isn't as bad. Without traffic it takes 30 mins. With traffic 1 - 1:30 hours.
If you don't want to move, I'm sure there are plenty of "local" opportunities.
Hey I would keep updating them or adding more letters of recommendation. Maybe if you have some research going on, submit a paper you wrote or something. Anything to show them that you're extremely interested in Western. I interviewed on October 9th, and I'm anxiously awaiting. Haven't heard from them yet but I hope its good news. Good luck!

My undergrad was 26 miles away. In traffic it could take anywhere from 1-1.5 hours. In no traffic I could get there in 30 minutes. I expect it to be the same for western..
that is suspciously close to my undergrad.
I live in Santa Monica and drive frequently to Claremont/Pomona
with not traffic it takes me 50 minutes, with traffic 2 hours
downtown is about 30 minutes( from pomona).. but they do have a light rail and bus system as well...I know people that use it and like it...

I sent in my secondary on oct 10th and I'm anxiously waiting to hear if i will get an interview. just from your experiences, how long did it take to hear back about an interview? the reason i ask is because my western secondary was complete at the same time for touro-ca, but i just got a letter from touro saying i got an interview today! 😀 (yes i'm excited, but i hope to stay in so-cal...hehe) thanks!!

Same here! I sent Western an e-mail and was told it takes about 3-4 weeks for them to review. Let's cross fingers!
If I call Western, is there a chance that the admissions committee will let me know in advance whether I am accepted or not before I receive my letter? I feel like I won't know until after my next interview, but I'd like to just avoid all the trouble of flying and interviewing if there is a chance I am accepted (knock on wood).

I know this may seem like a very peculiar question but....For the people who have already interviewed - have the interviewers been 2 guys, 2 gals, or 1 guy and 1 gal?
Ive never heard of anyone with the actual statistic, but just know that they screen the primary app pretty thoroughly. So, if you make it past the first screening and you get a secondary you are doing something right. Just answer the questions truthfully and it should turn out in your favor!
I had one female professor. They mentinoed that they usually try to have more than one but since it was in the beginning of the cycle they didnt have all of their numbers yet so i think you can expect more than one.
im pretty sure EVERYONE on October 2nd had just one interviewer...???

It took about 5-6 weeks for me. I was in the very first batch of secondary applications.
i interviewed on the second and had 2 people. But i didnt get in (WL)....so maybe having 1 is better?

So they're building a hospital, at least that's what I've heard, that'll allow rotations there for FP, OBGYN, OMM, and a few other things I believe. I think they said we'll go as far as a 50 mile radius to the hospitals for rotations. Arrowhead, a common rotation site, is 35 miles away and I believe that it's not a fun commute. The other 3rd and 4th years I know just commute from their place, who are living in chino and claremont. Dr. Mac was talking about when she used to have to drive to the hospital 3 hours before her shift because the traffic would be so bad that, that was the only way she'd be able to get there on time.

Also you can do rotations pretty much where ever you want as long as you set it up early.
that would be AWFUL. it takes forever to get out there and i cant imagine having to come back in the evenings. nightmare status. LA traffic adds so much time to commutes, at least speed of traffic is usually around 80 mph when the road is more clear.
Hey just wanted to give the good news that I was accepted into Western! I had to call Natalie, but I haven't gotten the official letter. I couldn't be more thrilled! Its my top choice!
