OOS A!! WL on 1/30. I’m not sure if it was a coincidence, but I called them today expressing my interest and asking where to send a LoI. Got the A a couple hours later!
Probably a stupid question but did you just call and say “Hi, just want to say that im interested in the program and ….” Like was the phone call a brief statement of interest?

You have a @westernu.edu email now right? You use outlook not gmail for emailing. You do have a google drive associated with ur email though.

WesternU is one of the best DO schools imo and is very underrated on Reddit for example, you barely see anyone talking about it on there. At the end of the day you're going to be a doctor, there's a great DO community here with faculty and DO admin that really care about your education and want you to be good doctors. Every single medical school has their problems that people are going to complain about, they don't like how this professor teaches, this was graded poorly, etc. Just nobody posts about it because you just complain to your fellow classmates cause you're in it together and at the end of the day you move on and continue your education.

The HEC where our didactic lectures are held is a fairly new building and doesn't feel old. Literally the only thing I don't like is the OMM HSC building and the bathrooms there. They're old and cramped lol. If you feel unsafe crossing campus at night you can call and ask for a security escort at any time. The white coat ceremony was held at at the Pomona Fairplex, not the school and the Graduation is also outsourced to another location to accomodate all the students. There is amazing Mexican food in Pomona, and the surrounds cities are good like Chino Hills and Diamond Bar.

Lastly, yes, the surrounding Pomona area can be sketchy at times but they do have security around.

Honestly you should reach out to Tom Fox, Director of Outreach & Strategic Partnerships and schedule a tour with him if you haven't already. I can't recommend it enough, he's a great guy and you'll have the best school tour of your life and learn a lot about the history.
thank you for your advice. I will reach out to him for more info 🙂

I called initially to ask about how the waitlist is organized/ranked and where I can submit an LoI. I then briefly expressed my interest through there.

Hi! I still haven’t heard but from them but I keep getting reminders to apply for scholarships lol is this normal

some questions for current students
- where do most students end up living and what's the maximum commute time you all would recommend?
- for those in M3/M4, what would you say is the quality of the clinical rotations? and how hard is to get a one year longitudinal track in M3?
- do you feel like there's adequate support to help you out if you're struggling (tutoring, peer support, etc?)
- are there resources (anki decks, study guides) passed down from older students to the lower classes? are ppl generally helpful to one another?
- is the cohort generally close or does the school have more of a commuter feel? coming from a commuter undergrad it'd be nice to have more of a closer knit community lol

thank you so much in advance!! i appreciate you all so much, any information is helpful <3

Most students end up living within 20 or 30 min from campus. Usually in Claremont, Upland, Diamond Bar, and Chino. A few live at the Daumier on campus, so if you're interested, check in and sign up for its waitlist when you can. I know of a few people who commute from Irvine, but most people would not recommend that. I think a 20 min commute is pretty reasonable overall.
I'm an OMS-I so I can't comment on the rotation sites or tracks too much. That being said, I have heard that some of those year-long sites are competitive because they offer good programs in fields like surgery, which makes them attractive to people interested in that field.
I feel like there is a ton of support. LEAD offers a lot of tutoring appointments if you sign up, and our main skills classes, OPP and CMR, have second-year students who TA and give a lot of pointers in class. We also have fourth year students who rotate in CMR every month and OMM student fellows who help out in OPP. Otherwise, most cohorts tend to share and pass down a lot of resources and do a good job of letting you know what you really ought to know.
Yes there is the Ironmed anki deck that each class refines and passes down to the next class as well as other resources. If you get in, you will be paired with an OMS-II who will be your "COMPanion" who will ideally pass a lot of relevant resources and guides down to you. I plan on doing as much for my mentees anyway since I am in the program. Most cohorts at COMP are known for being very friendly and chill. I don't see any gunner behavior here.
I came from a commuter school too, and COMP doesn't have that feeling to it. My cohort feels pretty tight-knit and most people recognize most people in the cohort. It doesn't feel like you never recognize most people.

Does anyone know whether they give direct A's at this point in the cycle or if it is all WL initially? Trying to prepare myself for whatever the decision will be but reallyyyy tired of waitlists lol

does anyone know if theres any chance of AL getting pulled off sooner than July :/

I called the admissions office last week and they said that most movement happens around late April, and last year they got through the entire waitlist
thanks for the info! do you know if when they say they got through everyone, they meant the people on the WL and alternate list, or just the WL?

Did yours say waitlist or alternate status. I got one as well but mine says alternate status while my update letter on my portal says waitlist. I am confused which one I am now.
Same with me. Mine asked me if I was STILL wanting to be an alternate even though I was initially put on the waitlist? Did your email say you want to remain on the waitlist or as an alternate? Trying to figure out if this means I got downgraded to alternate from the waitlist

i was waitlisted on 2/25 and did not receive this email. should i be worrying😅

Short answer: no you are still on waitlist
Back when i emailed them about this weird discrepancy that keeps popping up, they said this

“Additionally, our system does not differentiate between waitlist and alternate status, which is why your page may not display a clear status update. You will receive follow-up emails asking if you would like to accept the position, as we aim to confirm your continued interest. This is why you may be receiving such notifications.“

If WL is what ur letter says, then ur still on that <3

Does anyone know where to find resources for writing the scholarship essay? I've never written one before and don't know how to do it at all.

Also, do they have to be completely different from our PS/secondary essays? I already talked about being disadvantaged in my secondaries so I'm not sure if it'll be too similar... If anyone has any tips at all, please let me know. I'm first gen with no pre-med friends so I'm totally lost :/ Thank you so much! : )

Are they still sending out As or mostly WL at this point in the cycle?
