Western COMP Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh god. please let there be more waitlist movement. i need their awesome lectures on video where u can click on a power point slide and it will automatically jump to that part of the lecture. i need it like i need my prime rib cooked medium rare.

SB, did you send her an email and that was her response?? Or did she send it on her own?

That's pretty 🙁 cuz yes I agree with markboonya... the video lectures and curriculum at western would be sooooo nice to have.

Hi guys,
It's only June. You still have a chance. Don't give up hope. Good luck to everyone who is waiting:luck:!

It was a response to my e-mail, in which I asked for any general information she could give about the waitlist.

I too spoke to Amber yesterday, and she reiterated what others have said in the sense that waitlist movement is slower than the second coming of Christ. And alas, there are still people on the high alternate list, but I'm staying optimistic 👍

However, that being said, I'm in the same canoe as stringerbell considering I have an acceptance elsewhere.

historically, has the majority of students on the high alternate list get it? is there just an abnormal lack of movement his year?

just called a little bit ago and was given the same information the rest of you received. but hopefully the second half of june brings more news 🙂

i guess i'll be accepting another school today to play it safe.

I checked my mailbox today after I woke up around 3pm (I am working nights this week) and found a notice that USPS has a certified letter waiting for me at the post office! The only certified letter that I can think of is news from Western, but the anticipation is killing me. I am not sure but I am hoping this is it. It is strange that I did not get a phone call and also was not told anything when I check on my application earlier this week. Does anyone else know if they send a letter and do not give you a call first? PLEASE let if be!!!
Well, I won;t find out until after 7:30am on monday, which is when the PO opens again...damn weekend!!!

ooo heuristicdoc, good luck!
I think the person who started this thread actually mentioned something about finding out through a certified letter and not through a phone call... but you may wanted to PM her and find out for sure.

good luck and stay really busy this weekend so that you don't keep thinking about the letter!

I received a certified mail acceptance letter today; I was a high-alternate. I'm getting married July 1st so my fiance and I have a lot to talk about before I decide whether or not I will accept on short notice, especially since the Northwest Track program was full the last time I checked.

Does anyone know if Western allows deferred acceptance?

Anyway I just wanted to let ya'll know the list is still moving so hang in there.

I know of people in the past that have deferred their acceptance so I guess just talk to them!
I hope you can sort it all out 🙂

I'm in!!! Received my letter today. I was on the high waitlist since April. I am still waitlisted for the NW track but who cares!!! Good luck to everyone else waiting, I hope to see you there in August!!!!!

I was wondering... what did you send them/do in order to get off the waitlist?? I have been on the high waitlist since April as well but no luck so far...any pointers you have would be great!

Hey, congratulations. I'm happy to hear that you are in. I know you've been waiting for a while. 👍 🙂

Congrats heuristicdoc!!! Your excitement is the same kind of excitement I felt when I received my acceptance.

what are you doing about living arrangements? I am trying to get an idea of places to live since I am not from the area.

Hey guys!
I just got accepted into Western today! I'm pretty excited!

But... I have to think about where I want to go now... good luck everyone.. you'll probably be hearing soon!

  :hardy:   :hardy:
Congratulations. 🙂

Thank you soo much 🙂

I am excited... but I accepted TUCOM last month so I need to quickly decide between the two.
Do you have any advice as to which I should choose?

Hard for me to say. I never applied to TUCOM, so I can't really compare the two. You have a choice between two pretty good schools. All else being relatively equal, I think it's best to go with where feel like you'd most thrive, where you most felt at home. You should have gotten some sort of impression from your interviews.

Maybe someone who interviewed at both places can give you more objective data for comparison. Research a little bit about how both do their rotations. Are there any distinguishing factors in each program that you really align with, etc?

This is going to sound totally weird...but please take the spot at Western.
I've been waiting on the waitlist at Western, too, but I'm pretty much ready to go to Touro-NV. And I don't want to be in the same position you're in, trying to decide! 🙂

But anyway, of course, congratulations!

haha yeah... luckily I haven't done too much prep for Touro yet... was actually going to go up north and sign a lease this coming week... so the acceptance came just in time

good luck with everything at Touro 🙂

Looks like I have a decision to make now.
I was accepted today!

StringerBell, first of all, congratulations!

Secondly, do you mind letting us know how much time Western gave you to make your decision?

Thanks!!

Thank you soo much 🙂

You should take the seat at Western so that some folks who are waiting to get off the Touro waitlist and have no other acceptances can have a chance at your seat!🙂
Hahaha just kidding. They are both good schools... good luck with the decision making!

Congrats to you two 👍 Hopefully some of us regular waitlisters receive similar news in the future. Btw, were you guys notified by certified mail as well?

yes it was thru certified mail...i got the orange slip in my mail and called Western to find out, but they didn't tell me anything on the phone so just wait for the letter!

Are people really having that hard of a time deciding?

Since no one else wants to play cheerleader for a school, I'll do it.

Go~~~ to Western!

Reasons in order of importance
1)good rotations. Most important factor.
2)good numbers. Majority of class 2008 scored above average on comlex 1. Many way above.
3)good classmates. Western has one of the highest mcat/gpa in DO schools/ Fun, open-minded, diverse, like-minded people who want to come to so. cal. Great majority(if not all) 1st/2nd yrs has served needy population in early clinical experiences by volunteering near campus through montclair clinic/pchat..etc. It even has a DO theater troupe.
4)good location. Many med schools close-by with networks, confereneces, elective rotation sites, lots of resources for med students. No one picks Sacramento over NYC to study fashion design, for the same reason.
5)good growth. Western plans to complete a new DO building in 2009 with plan/design posted. Many new residencies at new sites taking shape. New researchers signing on.

That's what I can think of now. Yes the comments above might be a little simplistic and rosy, but good enough for cheerleading.

Good luck.

I was accepted today!

Oh wow Stringer!!!!! Congrats!

Are you gonna stay in Cali now? Didn't you already move to the desert? Let us know what you decide! 😀

Oh, boy. I got one of those orange slips yesterday. After reading all these posts, I came to a conclusion about the letter to which that slip belonged. It turned out I was right. I was accepted on July 3rd. Western/COMP is a great school and I am honored that they accepted me. 😀

However, I thought I withdrew from the w/l by letter a while back because I had decided to attend KCUMB. 😕 I guess they didn't get that memo. 😛 I'm set to go to KCUMB, so I'm going to decline my offer. Hopefully, someone who also deserves this will get my seat. Western is a great school. Good luck, everyone!

🙂

haha thank you! I agree with you, Western is my final choice
I have lived in So Cal for many years though so I was looking for a little bit of a change

Are you a Western student?

Congrats to all who were accepted! Has anyone from the "regular" waitlist received one of those magical orange certified mail slips yet?

i''m away from home but my dad said that there is an orange slip and the post office won't let him take it. i have to be there to sign the envelop. i guess i'm accepted as well. congratulation to everyone!

same as spicedmana, i'm all set to go to DMu....living my whole life in southern California, going to western would be a perfect match....ah.....but it's a tough decision to make. i want some change but not so sure if this is a good time to change. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....anyway...good luck to everyone who is still waiting! :luck:

hey spicedmanna and lovableDR, were you high waitlisters as well? Thanks!

Just got the slip as well! Called home and it was there! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! It's my first acceptance and it's such a breathe of fresh air! I was high waitlisted as well 🙂

StringerBell, first of all, congratulations!
Secondly, do you mind letting us know how much time Western gave you to make your decision?

First of all, thank you! 🙂
Secondly...uhm...I can't really divulge how long you get to make your decision. See, the letter of acceptance is kind of cryptic. It says you have 30 days, but that's when school actually starts. If you read the letter closely, it says that there may not be spots available. Call your admissions counsellor for more details. What I can say is I believe they made more offer letters than actual seats.

(However, if you are made an offer, and you accept, you are guaranteed admission for next year at the latest.)

So I started reading this thread during the day yesterday and saw that there was a lot of movement going on with the waitlist so I ran down to my mailbox and found a certified letter slip. Too bad I can't check until Monday at the post office since I missed it. Argghhhh! It has to be an acceptance though no??

By the way, congrats to all those that did get their letters!

Would any of you guys mind giving me a quick break down of your stats? I didn't see any mdapplicant links, and as of right now Western is my # 1 choice (won't apply for two years), and I wanted to know what you guys had.

Would any of you guys mind giving me a quick break down of your stats?

My stats probably won't help you, because I have a bizarre discrepancy between GPA and MCAT scores...but, since you asked:

GPA: 2.9(UG), 3.9(grad)
MCAT: 34R (12PS,12BS,10VR)
EC: 1.5 years working full time in an osteopathic clinic, 4.5 years working full-time in a hospital (cardiology tech)
Research: None

I'm also obviously a non-trad.
And I was complete VERY late. (Verified in December, Complete in February, Interviewed in April.)

You are definitely a non-trad, but your stats are great regardless. I'm trying to not get my heart too set on Western, but I've lived in So Cal my whole life and it fits perfectly for what I want!! Any other stats would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Got the orange slip yesterday! Haven't gotten the letter yet. I was an HP waitlister.

You can run profile search on MDapplicants.com and search for folks who received an acceptance to Western:

Yeah, that is what I have done so far, but it didn't really give me a good idea of the 'average applicant' (and I don't like to go off facts on princeton review), and a lot of the profiles were 03 and older and I'm sure the stats of admitted students have changed since then. I'm just trying to get all the info I can, thanks to all for the help!!

Thanks - but as food for thought, I was not offered an interview at Touro-CA, for example, because my GPA in prereqs was even lower than that 2.9. (It was about 2.4). My first two years of school were not very good - I didn't know how to study. Obviously, I changed things around, grew up a little bit, and was a better student when I got into some upper division sciences like Biochem, Neuro, Physiology, etc. I'm glad that my acceptance schools (ATSU-SOMA, Touro-NV, Western) decided to look at my candidacy as a whole rather than screen me out due to my early deficiencies.

Good luck!
