As far as times....

Clinical Skills activities begin at 8:00 AM on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and sometimes Wednesday evenings...not every day depends on group number and scheudle.

PBL is in the afternoon for first years and is usually from 1-3:00

Labs are on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-5:00

Question and Answer sessions are scheduled on Fridays from 4-5:00 if requested by the students.

Vet issues is from 10:00-12:00 on Wednesdays and MCB (molecular and cellular biology) is from 10-12:00 on Fridays.

I hope this gives you some idea for times. Some of the rotations you will do for clinical skills are off campus and take some time to get them as well. The furthest we have been so far this year has been a 45 minute commute.

Not the typical 9-5 schedule, huh? But again this isn't your typical vet school! So would you say that first years usually study - group sessions or alone - during those off hour? Or maybe start volunteering/shadowing at an off-site hospital? Wed seems like a day when not much is going on.

Just curious, when are big sibs usually assigned?

Wednesday's can actually be pretty busy some weeks, especially if you have clinical skills lab from 3-5:00, because don't forget PBL is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I guess starting next year so we have been told that all incoming classes will be participating in IPE for two hours a week. IPE stands for Interprofessional something... basically you will be having a zoonotic case that lasts two hours per week and it will be with the other colleges on campus. Thats all we have been told about that any way.
It is still in the works I guess.

As far as big sibs... I believe you will be receiving a questionaire in the next couple of weeks (when the offical class has accepted and the students apart of the big sib committe get the list). The questionaires will be collected via e-mail and each one of you will be matched to a compatable big sib. I believe we didn't hear who are big sibs were until early July maybe late June? (I don't remember exactly)

As far as studying goes.... it is up to you. The school rec. that you study in groups but myself and a bunch of my friends only get together in a study group when difficult topics come up. Everyone's study style is different so you kinda just have to feel it out for the first couple of weeks and see what works best for you. However, even if you study in a group there is still a lot of outside group studying that you will need to do.

As far as volunteering etc.... I would hold off on that to see how much time you will need to study. Take the first 8 weeks to feel out the program and get your study habits set. That way you will know what you need to work on and change after the first set of exams.

Oh just a side note.... don't forget to look into Claremont! I would say there are about 20 or so students that are from our class living in various parts of Claremont. Really nice area, so it is a little more expensive but average for the area. Depending on which part of Claremont it is about 10-15 minutes to the campus. Claremont also has the downtown area which is set up like a little rual town. They also have a farmer's market every sunday rain or shine.

Both complexes are north of the school but on the border of La Verne/south of Diamond Bar. Pricey, but very close to the campus. Does anyone know about the surrounding region in those areas?

Hey everyone.... just wanted to give you all a heads up about a scam that has been going around. A couple of students from our class was scammed by a reality agency called VG Management. They ask for all your personal information to do a credit check; things such as SSN, Bank information etc. They are to get back to you with a list of places that are available and then you send them which ones you would like to view etc. But they never got back to them. This is just a way to get all of your personal info.... This is just a heads up..... They said their names were Sal, Monica, and there was a third one that I don't remember.

In short becareful... and use Western's website to be on the safe side!

Thanks for the headsup mdnghtndc.

I've booked my flight out to cali (from DC) from may 13 - 18. If anyone else plans on being out there lemme know! 🙂

Ok. Just wanted to try out my new, signature! Is it obnoxious? LOL I thought you guys would appreciate it best!

Not at all! I think someone should post ALL the happy smiles in their signatures....the more 'flare' the better 😀

Hey guys, I see you're all looking for housing already. Don't forget about Chino! It's close to campus and you get more for your money. Plus there are lots of houses in Chino and that's an option to an apartment if you've got pets. And while the 10 & 15 have a lot of traffic all the time, 90% of the time, the 60 has no traffic in either direction!

My roommates and I are actually looking for a 4th female roommate for next year. Two of us are going to be 2nd yr vet students (agh!! the yr flies by!) and one is an incoming 1st yr vet student. We live in Chino off of Chino Ave between Euclid & Fern and it takes about 15 minutes to get to school. We're already have 2 dogs & 1 cat here so pets are negotiable but we're getting a full house. The room available is about 10x10 but part of the loft (15x11) is also available to make an office. It's a large, really nice house in a good neighborhood with a large backyard and access to a pool. The rent will be about $600 with approx. $60 for utilities. PM me if interested 🙂

Hey everyone!

I am currently a student at Western and my roommate and I are looking for another DVM student to rent the third bedroom.

The apartment is in a condo complex and has three bedrooms, and three bathrooms. The room that is for rent is the master bedroom. It is very large has two walk in closets, Private entrance, private bathroom, and large windows. The apartment is a pretty good size, and is located in claremont. The rent would include trash, water, free access to dish washer, dryer, washer, central A/C, living room, kitchen, and dinning room, off street parking, two pools, spa, and private padio (all three of us have access to the padio).

The apartment is located in Claremont right off of the ten, and there are plenty of side streets to avoid the highway if needed (i.e. traffic). It is only a ten minute drive to the campus. The rent for the bedroom will be approximately 775.00 (I have to check with the landlord to see what the exact increase will be but this should be a pretty good estimate), utilites depending on the electric bill run between 50.00 to 100.00 a month.

We are open to have students come and view the room and would actually prefer to meet applicants in person. There will be one cat living in the house next year. Other cats will need to be fully vaccinated and tested for infectious disease (the current cat will be turning 12 and is susceptable to infection). This is a non-smoking apartment!! (this is a must) As far as dogs; it will be a case by case basis (age, behavior, and of course the landlords approval).

If interested please send me a private message!

Ah man, wish I would've seen this sooner! I just committed to a place in Chino Hills, which is a beautiful place to live, but my first choice was Claremont, esp for the college town feel and proximity to school!
Good luck w/ your search

Sorry we had a feeling our roommate was going to live elsewhere next year but didn't get a confirmation until today.

Chino is still a nice place to live though, just a little farther than I want to travel.

Just wanted to bump this up....the apartment is still for rent!
