WesternU MSMS Fall 2015/2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know when classes really start aka ISAC and Bone Bootcamp? I believe orientation is June 1st and we will be given instructions to register end of April. But then Aug 3rd-8th is welcome week and convocation.

Just got mine drawn yesterday, OUCH!

I received both maybe 1.5 weeks ago. Did you try emailing Julie Smith already?

I emailed Julie but she couldn't help me until I had my last pre-req in. I ended up calling IT support and they provided my email and ID.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted. Unfortunately for me, I'm still waiting for some kind of response haha. Hoping for the best!

congrats to everyone who got accepted as well! from the looks of it, all the acceptances were probably e-mailed yesterday morning? thats already 5 people who reported to sdn. pretty big number. looks like i did not get selected :/

Hopeful what are your stats if you don't me asking?

Keep your head up and stay hopeful, Hopeful!

Was wondering, who have you guys been contacting in regards to submitting the immunization documents and offer acceptances?

For those that have been accepted. How long did it take for them to finalize all your immunizations, background check, and forms to officially accept you. Can someone post or PM me. Thanks

I tried calling the admission counselors today, but it looks like everyone is out of the office or something along those lines since I can't seem to get through to anyone. Hopefully they'll respond to my email soon so I can get this ball rolling.

From my understanding so far we have to do a physical and do immunizations and the titers asked for. We also have to retrieve and provide our complete immunization history since we were young. How about the background check? Do we set that up or does that take place later?

Also, how do we get a WesternU email?

From my notes on interview day, they will send more explicit instructions for the background and physical.

The WesternU email should come in snail mail....unless I'm mistaken? I think I remember them saying that everything will come in regular mail after we are accepted (including WesternU email) and then once we set it up, everything is through our new email, right?

Just completed all my paperwork and faxed it to the office. Hopefully everything is up to par. Now I need to figure out financial aid. I also find it weird that we haven't received our acceptances in the mail (at least I haven't yet).

Ask your counselor for your email and ID. I needed to so I could submit my paperwork.

Apparently registration for classes starts soon? (5/4/15)

Does anyone know when our first day of bone boot camp is? I'm trying to see how soon I need to prepare to move in ><

I was planning on staying at the Daumier, but they don't start taking leases until August, which for our case since we start on June 1st is no bueno >_>. I just ended up submitting my application for the Helix. They at least start their lease on the 1st...

Any one know when usual wait list movement occurs or is the class full as of now?

For those already accepted - we don't need to re-send official transcripts again do we? Since we included them in our original MSMS application? (In my case, I have no outstanding grades/degrees to report).

Yes, I called and counselor told me if you turned in official transcipts showing your bachelor degree than you do not need to send again.

For anyone waiting for their student ID, I found a quicker way than calling a counselor. Go to the BanWeb page and select "Forget User Id?". It takes you to a page that asks for first name, return email and the last 5 of your social. The email it sends contains your ID (which we need to put on all our H&P stuff).

I just got my acceptance letter and my email information in the mail today - just a side note.

Has anyone received any info on registration? I'm having trouble accessing Ban Web i think my PIN or passowrd isnt working.

Just got my rejection letter after being waitlisted.

For those who applied and got accepted, can people with minimum sgpa with little over cgpa and 33 mcat competitive for the program???

Your MCAT is incredibly competitive. In fact, with such a high MCAT, you might want to consider a post-bac rather than a Master's. Depending on where you go, it might save you a significant chunk of money.

Im considering this because I really want to go to Westernu as it is near. I guess I can think of it good way???

If Western is your top choice, then yes, your MCAT score will likely help alleviate your lower GPA.

I'm an accepted pre-dent and will be giving up my seat Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully, someone on hold will get my seat! May 15th is when some forms are due so if you are on hold you may hear before June if anyone doesn't submit their forms. Anyway, I remember being a silent sdn'er last cycle and want to give my 2 cents for pre-dents currently on "hold" or future applicants that may stumble on this later. For starters I applied relatively late last cycle but was still in Interview #2 thereafter I was placed on "hold" and was very optimistic that I would be admitted, mostly because people would always share their story they got accepted the day before etc. Well that one person is never me! Long story short I was left on hold..meaning admissions never rejected or accepted me because the class was full. This was a very confusing place to be in as I really felt lost and that my life was in limbo; I had put all my eggs in one basket and I had failed. Quite frankly I was angry with admissions for leaving me and others on hold (including pre-meds).

My interview went great both cycles (because both times my interviewee told me it went great and I'm a strong interviewee)..if you get rejected post- interview I believe it's because of your interview. I believe for pre-dents the msms program wants a certain DAT score and if you haven't taken yours, if its expired or will be expired by MSMS graduation, or not up to their minimum (which they don't say what the minimum is) then you may not get in.

Long story short I retook my DAT (main things holding me back) and scored average but much better than the first time. Applied late to dental school but early to MSMS. To my surprise I received 4 dental school interviews with my first acceptance recently, wl at 3 others, and my MSMS acceptance early on. As you can see for pre-dents that's how close you have to be to get accepted--a hair away from an acceptance. They only accept around 6 pre-dents a yr (varies each yr) but this program is an informal guarantee for pre-dents and not that many people know about it to even apply. Dental school competition is high and a lot of people are doing this program as a non-accept back-up when they may not wholeheartedly need it. Make sure you apply early! The program has pros and cons..pros: its an informal guarantee with no gap year. Everyone I know who did the sfsu post-bacc had a gap yr or more (please don't do it)..and the MWU-AZ master's is better but the majority having a gap yr stay silent until they get in (make sure your DAT is solid before starting beginning a non-guarantee master's). In my opinion, the MSMS program is more difficult and time consuming than other master's/post bacc from what I heard at interviews and friends in varied programs. I mean we are talking 8am-5pm class Mon-Fri for 12 months and for pre-dents you take ISAC and have to learn the entire body in a lot of depth; whereas most dental schools focus on head and neck. Given tuition isn't too bad I think its awesome that WesternU provides cadavers and awesome teachers for the price of the MSMS. Its the best master's for a pre-dent and a part of me feels sad giving up my seat because I've wanted it for 2 cycles now.

For pre-med..the little that I know is when I went to interviews this cycle I recognized a lot of pre-med re-applicants. Obviously, they too had applied early and were holding out for this program; if you are reading this I hope you all got accepted! Talking to students there is def. some competition amongst other students and in terms of pre-meds getting a certain percentage to be guaranteed admittance with no gap year. Its something they worry about though they all sounded confident that eventually they would get in.

Overall, its an awesome but tough program--for those that don't realllly need it you can prob. find an easier route into d school or even DO school--and for those who know they really do need it--it can change your future. Good luck.
