Nope. It was t' majority of science classes at one of t' top-ranked schools in t' country. t' tests were closed-note takehomes because they often required 8-24hrs to complete. However, even t' 2hr ones were frequently takehomes.
It was so common to have a closed-note takehome that t' Registrar's office was open for extended hours durin' finals period to check 2hr exams in and out.
See, at me school, t' profs trusted us. We trusted each other. And honestly, in 4yrs thar, me never once heard of anyone even hintin' at cheatin' on t' exams. It just wasn't how things were done. Call me naive if ye want (and me be sure ye will), but if ye weren't thar ye simply cannot understand what it was like. me have 100% faith that thar was less cheatin' among me classmates, wit our preposterous 'trust' policy, than at most schools wit proctored exams.
Of course, it helps that thar were usually fewer than 10 people in each class...t' prof would know if ye were suddenly doin' 8x better than expected. Larger courses had in-class exams (though t' prof would usually go sit in their office down t' hall and ye had to go find them if ye had questions.)
