Whoa, lots of MabdulD love in this thread...
Thanks.
Uh, my UF interview was a tad shaky, as it was my first. I thought about what I wanted to say ahead of time, but sometimes things just don't come out right. But actually, there were 2 interviews at UF, and the one with the student went really well.
After that, though, things have been pretty good. I had one or two shaky moments at UMich but nothing too bad. Jefferson, the guy seemed to love me, and basically told me I shouldn't have any problem getting in.
Anyway...I really don't think it's the interviews that are holding me back. For a time, I wondered if it was the LORs, but the UM dude told me those were good. It's gotta be the depth of my ECs. I've done some things, but, let's face it, most of you people have done more impressive things than I have. I have no research experience, and really only one community service experience. While the rest of you are working your asses off in the lab or somewhere else, I'm playing basketball, or noodling around on the guitar. I thought I had done enough--maybe not for the Harvards of this world--but at least enough to get into some pretty good schools. And I probably will still get in, but I think that with a less than impressive roster of ECs, the adcoms see me as kind of a "meh" person, and are willing to wait to see who else comes their way before they offer me an acceptance.
Enough about me. Good luck to the rest of you.
