No you dont

Junk mail is like comfort food when applying to medical schools.

Today, I got an interview invite from Stanford. The Gods are smiling on me this week 🙂

I received an email reply from the director of admissions at my first choice regarding an assessment I asked for. She said given my stats I am an extremely competitive applicant. Makes me feel my efforts aren't in vain, and gave me a definite motivation boost.

Harps man, you're my hero.

I received more junk emails offering to enlarge a body part I do not possess.

Is anyone else in the same boat? 😉

I get these all the time! Annoying.

Today I got the Nigerian scam email. "We're innocent civil servants in Nigeria who came across $25 million stolen by our evil government and we need your help! Email us your bank account information and we'll transfer the money to you." Riiiiiiight.....

What school and are you going?

I got an "Application update" email from the dean at UCONN today. It said that they voted to review my app again in March, after more candidates have been interviewed.

I went through this process last year at Uconn, which is my first choice, and I never got this email. The only thing that I got after my interview was a snail mail letter telling me i was put on the lowest third of the waitlist and have statistically no chance..

So im wondering if this could be a sign of good news maybe? or maybe it is a new procedure from uconn this year, or maybe since I interviewed in december this year, as opposed to late jan last year? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
j

MabdulD,
Your stats are phenomenal! And you come from a great school. I'm as shocked as you are about your status this far in the game. At least Mich showed you love. If I were an ad com, I would have accepted you by now.

Jefferson was "High Priority", whatever that means. Looks like my patience will be tested over the next few months.

I'm amazed too. Goes to show you how random this process is.

MabdulD, how did your interviews go? Did you practice before going or think about what they might ask/what you'd like to talk about?

A Rejection from WashU. St. Louis
A Waitlist from RWJ
A receipt from Temple saying they got my deposit.

Waiting...and checking mail is worse than the rejection itself.😳

Whoa, lots of MabdulD love in this thread...

Thanks.

Uh, my UF interview was a tad shaky, as it was my first. I thought about what I wanted to say ahead of time, but sometimes things just don't come out right. But actually, there were 2 interviews at UF, and the one with the student went really well.

After that, though, things have been pretty good. I had one or two shaky moments at UMich but nothing too bad. Jefferson, the guy seemed to love me, and basically told me I shouldn't have any problem getting in.

Anyway...I really don't think it's the interviews that are holding me back. For a time, I wondered if it was the LORs, but the UM dude told me those were good. It's gotta be the depth of my ECs. I've done some things, but, let's face it, most of you people have done more impressive things than I have. I have no research experience, and really only one community service experience. While the rest of you are working your asses off in the lab or somewhere else, I'm playing basketball, or noodling around on the guitar. I thought I had done enough--maybe not for the Harvards of this world--but at least enough to get into some pretty good schools. And I probably will still get in, but I think that with a less than impressive roster of ECs, the adcoms see me as kind of a "meh" person, and are willing to wait to see who else comes their way before they offer me an acceptance.

Enough about me. Good luck to the rest of you.

I received my first post-interview rejection . . . wasn't even waitlisted 🙁

Yeah ... I could say the same for you man!

I'm from the East Coast .. NJ

Checking out your sig, you repping us well. chak de.

MadublD,

I doubt interviews can make a huge impact unless it went horribly wrong. I remember someone on SDN (I forgot his name) PM-ed me and had similar situation as you (High stats/good LORs and overall app, but not a lot of interviews/acceptance)

But as you mentioned, it probably has something to do with your EC's. The guy I just mentioned actually had very impressive research experience, and some of the schools you applied to (Jefferson for eg.) probably could care less about that anyway.

Good luck getting off from waitlists!

Haha, trying bro, trying. It should work out in the end, but it does teach me for being such a slacker. Guess I should have not turned down BA/MD like a fool.

Man, never turn down stuff like BS/MD...makes your life hell of a lot of simpler...no bsing w/ useless stuff like MCAT and flying around to safety schools. I didn't know about BS/MD programs in high schools nor did I have the 1500 SAT scores...

Yeah especially when you proceed to not bust it in "competitive" undergrad.
I was a fool then, not to say I'm not now, but yeah .... ironic right?... now hoping for an interview from the same school I turned down cause I was a cocky ****.

I received my UMich waitlist letter today 🙁

Oh well, already knew about it though and supposedly they have an active waitlist.

Oh and another Punjabi boy here.

Pre-Interview Rejection:
Dartmouth (did not like the location anyway)
University of vermont (i can't believe the med school with one of the lowest entering stats in the country would not even give me a shot. :wow:-no big deal-saves me the trouble of freezing my ass off)

Depressing isn't it? I had a thought though. When I called to ask about my status, they said that I should write to the dean and express my interest in the school so that they might pull my file out of the pool of possible interviewees. Two days later I got the rejection letter. Since I live in Everett, WA that's an AWFULLY fast.

Today... one rejection letter, one financial aid packet, and a wedding invitation from my cousin. Variety is the spice of life.

One rejection from NYU, pre-interview - sent to my permanent address and not my mailing address. My mom read it to me over the phone. I've been expecting it for a month - took them long enough!

Got an acceptance from a school I'd withdrawn post-interview from. It's too bad because I really wanted to make the space open for other folks.

two rejection letters
a confirmation of application withdrawal
a trafffic ticket
a loan consolidation letter
a check!
Supermarket coupons

REJECTED by Einstein! I swear, NYC has something against me...

Sorry, but I don't normally toot my own horn to build up my ego. However, today I received a pleasing letter from the Medical College of Ohio Grad Studies Program, PhD side of an MD/PhD, that said they were returning my application check in order to further entice me as a 'superiorly qualified applicant'. Probably something they do to every applicant, however, it did feel pretty good. Not quite an acceptance, but it did make my day at least.

1st medical school acceptance letter, application for a gas credit card, and a catalog from my book club. Life is good...

Cheers!
rmp

P.S. It still hasn't sunk in yet. I am going to be a doctor. WOW!

- my first decision... a waitlist letter (hey, it's much better than a rejection)...
- A confirmation for a separate interview
- Credit card bill
- Some books from Amazon.com 🙂

Got another interview invite (declining), and lots of spam.

1. a rejection from NYU (obviously)

2. a rejection from GW (I was hoping to at least interview there, but philly is still better than D.C.)

3. an email from NYMC requesting an official transcript from fall semester (first school in NY to even acknowledge my existence without a rejection)

4. an application packet to volunteer at a cancer center in philly

pre-interview rejection from univ of vermont, bleh.

More of... nothing. Damn it, waiting until end of March to hear from schools is going to kill me!!!!!!

UMich Preinterview rejection: Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggh
