Reading section is important while you are from a foreign background. If you check UCLA's and Indiana's websites, they will specifically look at your reading section while English is your second language. Be prepared for the interview. If you could demostrate the ability to communicate and discuss the various issues well, I think they won't make this section a barrier to block you from dental schools. Oh..ya...Indiana will also look at the English courses in the undergraduate.

I just called in today to schedule an interview and surprisingly alot of their earlier dates are already filled. The earliest friday i could get a was oct 10th so that's when i'm giong in for my interview. If you want email me after that date and i'll tell ya how it went.

Just got an interview invitation from Case (my 2nd choice) today . The game has just begun. please interview me, Nova! I will give up everything to get the interview with Nova (my first choice).

btw, my stat:

GPA: 3.0 science, 3.0 over all.
DAT: 20aa/19pat
2 yrs /dental assistant
BS in med tech (6 yrs working in hospital setting)
currently dental hygiene student. --> gosh too many good looking gals in my class. I may give up my dental dream then.....

applied July 7, AADSAS# ~ mid 1600 (damn high)
# of schools applied: 25 (to be safe)
so far no rejection yet ! I refused to pay the fee for UofNebraska. I don't think I have any chance at all after reading their brochure. They accept only 10-12 out of staters

i am starting to get really nervous. my stats are almost like yours larryt except that i have been in a dental setting for about 9 months. i have just one interview so far. my AADSAS is very very low (100-150) and i see a million people with much higher AADSAS #s getting interviews.

i am really hating this going to the mail and finding nothing for me!
 
I think it is a big mistake by sending AADSAS application before your DAT score. I sent my DAT score 2 months before submitting the application (in first week of May). I got the invitation just 4 days after mailing in the secondary. They haven't even received my check yet or cashed it! I guess they were anxious waiting for my application or something.

Does a low or high AADSAS # really make a difference in the positive or negative direction?

I did the research before sending my application (ahhh before I found this forum). U of Neb doesn't mention anything about the percentage out of staters to be accepted on their website.

Larry, it is optimal that you send both items at nearly the same time, however it is NOT a mistake to send in your application before your DAT score.

If people are taking the DAT this month, or even in Sept. or Oct, they MUST send in their applications now!

The sooner you get your application in the better. Remember, most schools will hold your file until they have all the items in place. Sometimes getting the AADSAS application to the schools takes 8 weeks, so there is no sense in wasting those 8 weeks.

Send your app ASAP!

I know, but the ADEA book on Dental schools DOES have that info, and you could always call the schools directly.

If you applied to a lot of state schools I think you'll find you are out of luck at those schools, and that statement doesn't rest solely on your stats. Those schools simply don't admit enough out of state students for them to be worthwhile.

Lower numbers get their apps. sent out sooner, so in some ways it does make a difference in the positive direction. Although, it won't make or break a candidate. It's always nice to have ALL your interviews done before Dec. 1., that way you can just sit back and let the acceptances role in, while taking the holiday break to relax and ponder them.
 
AHHH YESSS---that would be nice to relax, ponder, and stay cool😎😉
 
i am really confused and now scared. i caould hardly see myself relaxed unless i get some interviews in the very near future. i know my AADSAS # is low, however, with my gpa and seeing many people getting interviews already is really making me nervous.
 
Don't worry. At least you get an interview from Indiana. It is a good school. Do you turn in everything to each school? DAT, transcripts, and rols......
As I know, some schools like USC and NYU, they haven't actually started reviewing the applications of 2004. So, give them one more month and everything will turn over.
 
yes they all have my complete app. the only thing that they got somewhat late was my dat scores which they got aroung aug 8.

i am just confused because i hear many people are interviewing so early. hopefully i get all my interviews rolling next month.
 
Hi all,

Well today I got a letter from UPenn. At first when i saw the letter my heart almst dropped out of my ass since it was a small envelope. So I thought it was probably a denial or something. But fortunely its not, its just a letter telling me that my application is complete and they will be reviewin it shortly
 
i had that exact same feeling!

i got the letter from upenn and it was just a thin little piece of paper... i was so scared about opening it up.

now i just have wait for another response... 😱
 
Has anybody received anything from USC or NYU? Those are the only two school i have heard nothing from and its driving me crazy.
 
Maryland interview invite, and letter stating OSU has received my application and thanking me for interest in the school.

i think those two schools are the slowest of all when it comes to the app process. I too have not heard anything from NYU, but i did get a letter from USC saying that they received my check. just wait and hopefully we would hear from them soon.

I also wanna say congrats to arns for getting an interview at Maryland. You must have very good stats and highly qualified since you got an interview there. I know many good candidates have been rejected by Maryland.

Since your from LA too, does the 34 have anything to do with shaq? Lakers have a SICK team for the upcoming season, I would hate to miss the games if i had to leave LA!

Regarding USC: Did you just send a check to their "bank"? I called them and they said that i could send them a check to some wierd address. Havent done it yet, waiting for some acknowledgement that i have applied first. What was your case?

well, i just picked a # randomly, but now that i think of it i am glad i picked 34. i do like shaq and i do agree with you having a weird team this year. i would miss the games but i wish i have the chance to miss the games if it means i'll be in a dental school.

anyways, i sent my check to USC to the add that they have under their supplemental info from the AADSAS. i don't know of any other add that you are refering to. i sent the check payable to UC Regents and they got it.

i wish both you and i (ok and everyone else) luck. hopefully we could all sit back and laugh at these waiting days one day!
 
Can you please PM me with the address you sent the check to. BTW, i hope you didnt send a check payable to "UC Regents" to USC!

i sent my AADSAS app on 6/1 and on 6/21 i sent the check to USC and a week later i got a receipt of payment from them.
thats all i have gotten from them. just a receipt.
 
Hey all,

Checked the mail today and got a Marquette secondary applicaton. They also want me to write another essay for them...fun times!

I also got a NYU letter stating that they have recieved my application. Last week I got a UNLV confrimation that they have all my info as well.

another one of those secondaries that ask you why Meharry. its got a very weird question where you have to rank different things like (money, family, research, opportunity for leadership, blah blah blah...). this is rediculous!

another q asks what type of dentistry would you devote most of your time to?(specialty, general practice, research, etc) how can i know what i wanna do when i haven't even done any of it?

anyways, hope you guys get many secondaries and keep the rest of us posted.
 
It's a nice feeling to have only reciepts, huh? Throw me a frickin' bone here!?!? I have a receipt from U of Louisville.
 
my first rejection letter from Ohio State
 
Don't take that one too hard. Ohio State is one of those lovely schools that are very competitive even though people might not think they are.

I honestly believe many people have a greater chance of getting into Harvard than Ohio State.

I also got rejected last year prior to a secondary.
 
i was rejected by Ohio the probably the day the got my AADSAS app and without my DAT scores.

i think no one should even bother with ohio and maryland unless they were born a genius and have 25's all the way across. and probably a 5.00 GPA😡

no my stats aren't even close to being the top, however, i don't think that they were terrible either.
maryland has become very competitive and i feel that they really look for highly qualified people. they asked me and many others who felt they had a chance to send them a $75 app fee.
the day that they cashed my check, they rejectde me and i know many others who had the same experience with maryland.

so if you don't have a very high GPA and really awsome DAT then forget about it and save yourself $75.00.
 
Hot diggity just gto uconn interview. So far no rejections yet knock on wood.
