IMO, the ones who really stingy word/character limit

take cornell's 2ndary for example, 200 words to explain why you chose that school
OMG, i spent the whole night cutting down my reasons and i'm still 20 words above limit

The one extra secondary that I didn't need to send (among several) that brought my checking account to $0. Ugh, the fees killed me.

Without a doubt it's Duke. Besides sending it out super late last year (mid-Sept), they have 6 insane essays. I honestly believe they use this as a means to assess how interested you are in the school because there is no way I would have done that one if I wasn't sure I wanted to go there.

I agree with the multi-prompt low-character limit secondaries. Louisville is one of these, and MUSC had a weird multi-prompt but "keep it short" essay request that bothered me.

Conversely, I loved Case's secondary, with one prompt and a request to keep your answer around a page. Any secondary asking for one in-depth essay is far superior to the ones that hen-peck at a million subjects.
