Hi, all.

As you know, Touro is a pretty new school.

I am curious to know about the prospects of its long-term reputation as a dental school.

Do you think I'd have easier/ harder time finding a job or residency against other more known dental school graduates?

Any inputs are welcome.

I had a conversation with a fellow SDNER months ago about Touro and I said the following:

I have two friends who are currently D1 in Touro and they both said they loved it and wouldn't mind turning down their other dental school acceptances all over again. Like many other applicants, I was hesitant and dubious in Touro's future. Accreditation wasn't my main concern because many new dental schools are opening each year and easily obtain their accreditation. I was worried about the education and residency opportunities the most. Unfortunately I had my interview before my tour and I loved the facilities and overall vibe of the campus.

We will be in good hands due to a few reasons:
1. The faculty was significantly better than I expected, especially the class ratio when it's a new school.
2. Touro already had multiple graduate schools and used their already successful Medical school's name/brand as a starting point for their dental school (huge risky move lol).
3. Because Touro has four Osteopathic schools, I assume Touro has many hospital and healthcare center affiliations. I strongly believe their graduates can easily find residency.

If you asked a Touro dental student why those chose Touro the most common answer would be 'it's the only school I got into.'

You won't find a high specialization rate coming from Touro. Just stating the facts here.

Finding a GPR/Aegd for NY licensure wouldn't be too hard as long as you put in your work.

However in terms of specializing, Touro is going to have to have to establish a reputation. I do expect some of the top students however to land specialties. Whether or not that will be you is a different story.

Did you get anywhere else? If not, take it and run with it. Don't worry about residency. It's easy to get into a GPR/AEGD and after completing that It will be reasonable to get into a specialty.
