I have not been able to find a concise answer to this:

ATSU-SOMA's first year is it a true PBL or mix or what?

Basically, what is their didactic method?

It's a traditional model when it comes to content delivery. Lectures for basic science, small group for clinical skills. They are progressive in the sense that they record every lecture and post it online which is neat.

The content itself is just organized differently as Hazeldell's link I'm sure indicates.

In that case, how would you break down (time-wise) your week during that first year?
for instance are you at school in class from 9-5 kind of thing? or is it more like 10 hrs a week with more "free" time for independent study?
thank you!

This is quoted from a first year I contacted here on SDN:

3. What does a normal week look like for you?
A typical week for me is about 40 hours in class and about 20 hours studying. Mondays are typically lectures (3 or 4) in the AM, followed by an hour lunch-break, and then two hours of small group case presentations, and two hours of anatomy lab. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are generally lectures in the AM, then lectures in the PM after lunch. We never go longer than 5pm, and frequently get out earlier which means bonus time for study. Tomorrow we're only slated for lecture till 3pm for instance.
Thursdays are clinical days, split in half with medical skills and OMM. Half the class will go to medical skills (Physical Exam) in the AM, the other half is in the OMM lab. Then we switch for the PM. Fridays usually look a lot like Mondays. It's pretty packed and hectic, but gets very predictable and manageable in a short amount of time which is good.

Hope it helps 🙂

Sorry I'm not a first year there but I can relate what the students told me. Class is the typical 9-4ish thing but you don't have to go to lectures, just tests and the small group stuff. Some students choose to go to all the lectures, others just stay at home and watch the lectures and study.
