Hello, I have a rather embarrassing question to ask you helpful folks. Western is one of the school I applied to, and on its application, it asked why did I apply to Western. To be honest, I aplied to Western because I want to be a DO and it happened to be a DO school. Other than that, I do not know much about it. So, I was wondering if those of you who knows Western well can shged some light on what are the nice points about Western. It would be tremendously helpful.

Thank you.

i suggest looking western's website at: westernu.edu and also look at the interview feedback section on SDN and see what interviewees have had to say about the school. hope this helps.

It's near Los Angeles, near the mountains, near the desert and the weather won't kill you.

If I go to COMP (still haven't heard back), it will be as an HPSP studentt. THus, the greatest thing about COMP is that they have military rotations for third and fourth year med students.

also...

1. Awesome opportunities for community outreach
2. Adorable architecture
3. Mountains
4. Sunshine
5. Great technology, wonderful resources. ..require and ues latest technology in the classroom
6. Opportunities to spend clinical rotations abroad
7. Friendly students
8. Lots of student clubs
9. Excellent reputation--it preceeds them
10. Excellent financial aid. Opportunities for tutoring. Summer anatomy class.
11. later start date (my other school is Aug 1--I am committed to be somewhere until 26 July)
12. Longer return time--my last school I had 2 weeks to make decision and return deposit. Here, deposit is split into two payment
13. Opportunity to refresh and become fluent in Spanish/other languages

downside. . .
1. High cost of living
2. LA within 60 min---means horrendous traffic and horrbile smog
3. On earthquake fault line
4. No specialization in ID (infectious disease and tropical medicine)
