I believe everyone has gotten most of their interviews out of the way and are now going back for second looks... so I thought it'll be cool to see what everyone is thinking about...

My rank list is looking like the following:

1. Thomas Jefferson
2. Temple
3. RWJ
4. Lenox Hill
5 GW
6 and on.. not sure yet...and hope that I don't have to go this far down.

Thomas Jefferson used to be at the top of my rank list too, until I read some of the reviews they have at scutwork.com. Now I'm not so sure anymore. RWJ seemed nice except that having to go to the board review thing so early int he morning every morning (not a morning person). I'd rather not post my rank list because a lot of people seem to know who I am and I don't want PD's to find out where I am ranking them yet. Maybe I'm just being paranoid though.

On a separate, but related note, I am sure many people have been getting post-interview communications from programs. I have been getting a pile of them myself, some from programs in the middle or towards the top of my tentative ROL. Many of them sounds pretty "real" (ie. with hand written schmoozing notes, etc) that express their interest.

Does this mean I can safely shorten my list somewhat and cut out the bottom-end ones?

My tentative list looks something like (in this order):

NYU/UVa (very good programs that I like in almost every aspect, and I feel that all the negative aspects of the program I can tolerate well - both will probably end up in my top 3. The name may not be as big as some other places I went to, but I think they are good enough for me.)

Emory/UAB/Columbia (really a wash right now, each are very good programs, some may consider them better than the two places I listed above, but each of these have some aspects that I personally perceive as a significant negative that I would hate to deal with for 3 years if I match at one of these.)

Vandy (shoot me) / Baylor (I am pleasantly surprised about the city, but from academic/reputation standpoint it's hard to convince me it's better than Vandy).

OHSU/Tufts-NEMC (both good programs, but definitely not in the same class as some of the programs above in terms of academics, reputation and fellowship placement. But the location city is quite nice for both programs.)

I have only interviewed at 3 of 9 places I will hit eventually, so wonder if everyone is just about done. My school suggested that we take January off to interview.

I also have only heard from 1 school post interview, so my experience is not the same.

Renovar,
I agree with your assessment of UVa..I really enjoyed it there. I remembyour comments about Vandy, so that will be kept in mind. can you tell me more about nyu? i did not apply there but would still like to know, pm if you prefer.

places i would also rank high would be wisconsin and u of chicago.
-s.

sanfilippo, what are some of the things that appeal to you about wisconsin? I actually just cancelled my interview because of some of the negative things that I have been hearing about the PD, so I am curious to hear about your experience...

I've only really heard from one program (besides mt sinai suggesting a 2nd look). The interviewer hadn't even read my application, so between that and the disappointment of the rest of the interview day-I still won't even rank the place.

Echoing Ckent's post, other than my top choices (which PDs can easily figure out who I am and where they stand on my ROL from what I have been posting on the forum), this is my partial, and probable rank list ,

**my top choices**, then
U of Florida, Gainesville
Boston U/Miami <= can't decide betwen the two. Both great locations and comparable reputation.
VCU
USC <- hope I don't end up there.

I wonder what percentage of program directors look at this message board?

Probably very few, if any. I imagine that most like to spend any free time that they have thinking about anything but applicants. And if there were any, I imagine that they would register under fake user names and post fake things about how awesome their program and director (themselves) are. 🙂 I would worry about people gossiping though, I'm hesistant to even tell my classmates my top choices because I just wouldn't want them to be in a situation where they were talking about my top choices during interviews/here at my school and have a PD happen to listen in. I know that it's a long shot, but better safe then sorry. I'd be happy to post my rank list after we all match.

Dont' do it. Why cut your ROL short? Would you rather scramble or end up at your #8 spot? There is NO reason whatsoever to cut your ROL short!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think that Mt. Sinai reccomended interested candidates to take a second look? When I was there, I got the impression that they discouraged it. I am thinking of ranking them in my top three (maybe #1)...am I hurting my chances by not going again?

No, they told the whole group how much they wanted us to consider a 2nd look.... i think it was because i interviewed on their change-day so the residents were absent or worn-out....no morning report, etc...

Q, DO

Actually, that's a very good question... Sad but true. I just hate to think I'll end up so low.

I have decided that I will rank the following programs:
U Maryland, Brown, Thomas Jefferson, Wash U, U Rochester
I'm undecided about ranking the following programs (but will probably rank them just in case):
Bayview, RWJ, GW
I will not rank the following programs that I interviewed at:
U Pitt, Penn State, GT

I'm basing my entire rank list on where I think that I would be happiest for three years and not on academic reputation.

I am ranking NYU, Cornell, Columbia, Monte and Jacobi.
I will also rank St. Vincents, BI and LIJ just in case.

Led by my Dean's advice, I sent an e-mail and a snail mail to Cornell PD expressing my interest. The next day he sent a rejection. Hahaha...While he was rejecting me he probably thought "here is a rejection for you , you inpatient mother****er".

I do not think that Columbia will send you a rejection. They are quite arrogant.

Been following this board for a while... this was posted by you sometime ago.

Does it mean Cornell have to dip into their rejection list to interview? or are you ranking them even without going to interview?

AND what's sad is, I haven't heard $HIT from Cornell... NOTHING! Maybe it's time for me to call.

renovar,
i have not heard from cornell (and a few others, for that matter), either. i emailed them last week, but have not heard any replies. maybe i should have applied to nyu after all! is there time?!?! 😉

let us know if you get any response from them,
-s.

They made aen error and corrected it few hours after the first e-mail.

But Renovar, you have great interviews anyway 🙂
