There are new NRMP/ACGME regulations that further restrict questions that faculty, program directors, and residents can ask applicants during the interview day:
  • What other specialties are you applying to?
  • What other programs did you apply to in the area?
The following are always questions that cannot be asked based upon federal and state laws:
  • Are you pregnant / do you have children / are you planning on having children?
  • Are you married / do you have a significant other?
  • What are your political/religious views?
  • What is your sexual orientation?
  • etc.
Just listing this as an FYI because we frequently have applicants who get upset that we didn't discuss their children or families... However, if any of the topics are brought up by the applicant it is fair game to discuss.
