Hey all. I believe the accreditation committee for osteopathic medical schools had their meeting today to approve and/or pre-accredit a few of the new/proposed schools. I know that the eval for Pac NW Univ of Health Sciences was today, and will assume that others were as well.

Anyone know of the outcomes???

There will be a press release for sure...I just can't wait a week!

Accreditation issues are still going on tomorrow. Go to this web site to see:

There are new schools in PA (Philly): Robert Morris University COM, Colorado (Aurora): Rocky Vista University COM, and Washington (Yakima): Pacific Northwest Univ. of Health Sciences COM.

Should be some good schools and open up opportunites for students back west more..

what about Touro-harlem?

Just when I thought that the mirage had disappeared it has been brought up again! I think Touro-Harlem will probably be too late for us, but who knows, maybe we will all receive an E-mail Monday stating that Touro-Harlem is taking applications!

Yakima would be Da Bomb diggity!!! I love Washington state. It is so pretty, minus the bloody rain.

Whatever happened to Barry University (in Florida) opening an osteopathic school? Guess that was just speculation...?

um, have you ever been to Yakima? it's in a different climatic zone, it's "northern inland desert..." nothing AT ALL like portland or seattle b/c it's on the other side of the mountains, which trap the precipitation and form a rain shadow.

and it's a tiny tiny town in the middle of nowhere...

Of course I have been to Yakima. Otherwise how could i say that living there would be da bomb diggity????

and btw, I as talking about the rain in the state.

I'm all over that....I could chase Bigfoot on my days off!

Scientists have proven that the Sasquatch, he is real.
Take a look at the plaster cast of his foot, now you know he's real.
Listen real close to the audio tape, not human no you know he's real.
Couldn't be a man in gorilla suit, no ****in' way.
No, you know he's real.
Real, real, real real, real, real, really real, real.

Sasquatch,
We know your legend's real.
Sasquatch,
We know your love is real.

No kidding, and not far from Yakima is the Hanford nuclear waste dumping site (obviously the us govt. thought this was the wasteland of america too).

No, tiny is my hometown. Yakima is at least decent sized. They don't even have any businesses that are open on a daily basis, nor a traffic light. Hell, they have a hard time keeping stop signs up because kids get bored and steal them.

This is gonna be redunkulous... that will make 3 DO schools in PA in addition to the other 5 allo schools... If I can't get in somewhere in-state, it's gonna be no one's fault except my own although I haven't mailed out LECOM's secondary yet (mostly bc I really want to go to PCOM and to submit LECOM would be like giving in haha)

::quietly sobs in a corner::

When I went to Touro-MI, they mentioned that Touro-Harlem was going to open for the next cycle, fall 2008.

Hell, I don't understand why people are so eager to go to school anywhere in New York City, but you'd think adding "Harlem" would be a detrimental move. It would be like UCLA-South Central or UC-Compton. :meanie:

Why would you want to go to school in Harlem of all places????

it's too late for me, but i would have definitely applied if it was available for this cycle. i am a city girl. and it depends where in harlem the school would be. right now i work on the upper east side right on the border of harlem and it is a great neighborhood.

For the sake of clarity, the new proposed Pennsylvania school would be in pittsburgh (wow).

http://undergraduate.rmu.edu/conten...cine-with-naming-of-two-associate-deans-.aspx

It will not be accepting a class until the fall of 2008 🙁 One of its deans came from Pitt U. Grr I'm kind of jealous I can't apply!

yep, it's not a myth, they told me the same at Touro-Nevada

Cat48100 and bigfatk, roughly when did they tell you this?

At my Touro-NV interview in late October they mentioned Touro-Harlem would be taking application "in early 2007" for the CLASS OF 2011!

It was around mid october and it was told to me by the director of admissions at Touro-MI.

huh funny, i was also told by the director of admissions at touro-nv...I guess what it boils down to is them not know for certain either. I'm guessing he made his statement based on the expected outcome of the approval procedures this month..

Hey all. It's Monday...the day after the big meeting...and I can't seem to find any press releases or anything of the like.

Anyone know anything?

My personal concern is Yakima...but interested with what happened to all the schools.

i had an interview there in mid sept.

There would be 2 new schools in FL if that went though. I think UCF got approved for an allo school not too long ago.

actually there are two new allo schools that just got approved in Florida, apart from UCF, FIU is opening a med school.

What does it mean when a school is pre-approved or has pre-accredited status? Is there a possibility that the school will not reach full accreditation?

Well...it's now Wednesday...the third day after the meeting, and still no results available that I am able to find.

I'll keep beating the dead horse...anyone know anything yet?

According to a Touro publication- the school should be located on 125th near the Apollo theater.
They are also planning an allo school for NJ.

Just found on their main website in the directory:

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine
2090 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd., Suite 603
New York, NY 10027 - Map
(212) 851-1199 ext. 2007
fax: (212) 531-2264

I believe that is definetly where the school will be. The area is supposed to be nice. I just added Touro-Harlem to my aacomas app. That's right you can add that school now! The school is supposed to be really nice with state of the art fascilities and very good and experienced professors. They are also supposed to start interviewing as soon as possible!! 😀 😀 👍

Does this mean the other osteopathic schools in Pittsburgh, Aurora, and Yakima will be opening up for this 2007 year? Will we be able to apply to them this cycle?

Ok...it's now 4 days post meeting...and still nothing.

It DOES look like Touro Harlem got approved, but even that hasn't been released as part of a media release yet by the AOA.

2 days after I emailed PNUHS and the AOA...and neither have responded.

Is is some type of 'secret' who got approved...or what?

This is getting stupid...let us know what the meeting results were already!!!
