Hello everyone I wanted some opinions on what would make the most sense for what I should do for my next two gap years coming up.

I just graduated with my bachelors in biomedical sciences and have yet to take the mcat so I intend to spend some time working on that, in addition I am independent and need to pay my bills.

I have a 3.82 cGPA and a 3.81 sGPA.

In addition, I have worked as a tutor or TA for Human Anatomy, Quantitative Biological Methods, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. In total this adds up to about 385 hours.

I have also approximately 85 hours of shadowing from 4 different physicians and intend to expand on that in the up-coming years.
I have also about 130 hours of hospital volunteer hours in the ER, Nurses Station, and ICU.

I have done about 230 hours of biomedical research with tissue culture and presented that research at my school’s undergraduate showcase, which was a fun but relaxed experience. It was also great because my PI’s allowed me and my team to help with the experimental design of the project!

Most of my time in undergrad has been spent working at summer camps with children and their families with serious and chronic illnesses with the serious fun network and with people with physical and mental disabilities through easter seals.
Combined by the end of this summer I should have approximately 3,850 hours of volunteering and paid experience delivering personal care, meeting the physical and emotional needs of these campers and their families, and helping given them a wonderful experience that increases their quality of life. This work can only be defined as life changing and has been my pride and joy.

With that being said my goal currently is I would love to land a residency at Boston Children’s Hospital, which I know is very competitive and I am unsure which medical school would be the best choice to help support me. I know USMLE scores are a large part of it but from my understanding so are connections you form.

Farther more beyond residency I know I am leaning towards being a pediatric specialist.Beyond practicing medicine I am interested in working on expanding non for profit work with hospital outreach programs to expand the emotional benefits of camp to the hospital setting.
In addition I also would be very interested in working in research as well to expand cures and treatments for diseases that I see children suffering and dying from.

The reason I bring my long-term goals up is I wanted an unbiased opinion on what would be best served and realistic for me to do with this time off beyond preparing for MCAT?

Would it make more sense to continue growing with my non-for-profit camp work and develop a deeper understanding of that and increase be experience?
Or would I do better trying to find a research job that allows me to learn more about the process, and perhaps delve farther into the subject material?
Also will it matter to top schools which I do as long as my MCAT score is high enough and they think I am a good match for their school?

Finally I was looking at various research programs but was wondering if anyone had suggestions on which research jobs or post bac programs might be good to apply to for someone who has some but still limited experience in the field? Also if anyone knows anything about research assistance jobs I would love to learn more!

Thanks in advance for any feedback that may be given!
