So I was thinking of applying this may 2008 for 09'. My LOR's are in hand, I have accumulated over 150 shadowing hours, and a summer dental course at PENN. If I apply this may I will be short GChem2 and OChem2. When I went to visit TUfts they said that I can apply without all my pre-reqs as long as I plan to complete them prior to matriculation, is this true with most schools?

In addition, I would have to take my DAT sometime after May 15. DO you guys think that I will do well enough on the DAT without the 2 pre-reqs?
Will I learn enough from the Kaplan course over the next semester to do well enough on the DAT with a full biology workload in school?

I really want to avoid waiting around another year to apply. My GPA's are 3.5's. Iam highly motivated and feel that I can pull it off, but I dont want back myself into corner. PLEASE HELP

I think you are in good shape. Just keep doing what you're doing. Its just going to be a long, grueling wait - a true test of character---I think in many ways I still suffer from an application-induced depression. sorta jk

btw, why do you have to wait to take your dat. I'd take it sooner to give yourself a chance to retake before may in case your first go at it isnt satisfactory.

I am taking Bio2, Phy2, and organic this spring semester which can only help me in studying for the DAT in May or June.

Would anyone care to give me advice that may have been in a similar situation before?. Thank you!

I applied to school prior to taking Orgo 1&2 and Bio in the current cycle (08). I feel you can prepare yourself for the DAT without having completed all of the pre-reqs (my orgo scores wasn't that great though...but that's a different story). Right now, I'm finishing my first semester of orgo and bio, will take orgo 2 and bio 2 during the spring semester, and biochem during the summer.

So far, I have 2 upcoming interviews (I applied somewhat late in the app cycle), was denied by one school, and am still waiting to her back from 6 others. I think you should be fine applying with having planned to take the pre-reqs during the application year.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the straightforward answer. Where are you from? Where are you applying? The reason I keep bumping this thread is because I need to make a decision pretty soon whether or not to enroll for the Kaplan prep course. Is it true that certain schools dont even consider your application without all the pre-reqs?

I'm not 100% sure, but from what I understand, schools will let you apply as long as you can show them that you'll be completing your pre-reqs before you enroll.

Also, Kaplan course is a waste of time and money, imo. Take a look at the DAT section and you'll be able to find some useful books and study materials.

Why not take Gen chem 2 instead of Physics 2? Gen chem will help you on the DAT while Physics will not.

I agree with tamkhan.

However on the Kaplan course you can be successful without taking it you just have to be very motivated and disciplined to prepare on your own. It is good to go through a prep course if you feel you need some help to prepare for the DAT.
