A so called artists by the name Guillermo Habacuc Vargas with the help of 2 children, who he paid, caught a dog on the street. He tied the dog in his exhibition gallery so people could see it starve to death. He told everyone not to feed this dog. He calls himself an artist. After suffering for a few days dog died in the gallery.

The sickness doesn't stop there. In that event he was chosen to represent his country in the “Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008″.

There are pictures

OH MY GOD! Who the heck would DO that? Why?!?!?!

Although, there is this one artist that was on Yahoo! News a while back because he covered a human skull in diamonds and called it art and sold it.
I looked at some of his other stuff...he had two pieces where he basically killed some poor tiger shark and dumped it in a tank of formaldehyde. In one, he'd cut it in half.
Of course, the formaldehyde didn't preserve specimens that large for all that long so just recently, he had to go out and kill ANOTHER tiger shark to replace the one that was degrading. 😡
Way to kill the ocean ecosystem for art dude. Ugh.

At least his shark didn't starve to death though.
At least I hope it didn't.

Cruelty =/= art

I find it disgusting not only what the artist has done, but the inhumanity of the people exhibiting the so called "art" dog dieing...

OMG, this is so terrible. Isn't this illegal? I didn't catch what country this was in, but they must not have any animal abuse laws. That's probably the most heinous thing I've never seen. If I had been able to go to that exhibition, I would have brought a big bag of food. Even if they kicked me out after I fed him once, maybe other people would have gotten the courage to do something about it. That makes me really sad/mad.

It was in Honduras. And they really don't have animal cruelty laws. 🙁

Yes,
I've been to Honduras and other countries like it. There are just dogs wandering everywhere, not taken care of at all.
I can't stand this sort of thing. It makes me really depressed to know that this goes on in the world. I DONT UNDERSTAND this mentality - what is wrong with these people???!!!
If I was there, I would have freed that dog - I don't think anyone would have been able to stop me. Except for those ****ed armed guards that are all over the place down there.

Yea. Even just a bit south of the border as Tijuana, I saw the same sort of negligence of dogs. It's truly scary to know that much of the world isn't like the U.S. which actually has animal cruelty laws...

Disgusting. 😡
😡

😡

😡

😡

Somebody should tie that guy up and watch him starve to death.

The sad thing though is that the US isn't like Animal Planet. Most laws see animals as property and the laws heavily favor the owners. Many times if animals are abused, but the owner takes them to the vet that's good enough for the law and the animal goes back to them. And abused animals are rarely saved... they can go to shelters just to be put down because of overpopulation.

I seriously thought I might be sick looking at those pictures, especially the one with all of the people just standing there😱

There is a petition to try to boycott this artist from the “Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008″.

Here is the site: http://www.petitiononline.com/13031953/petition.html

He sounds like a sick *%&$&*#@&* who is trying to get publicity from shock value.

It may still be imperfect, but it sure as heck is better then what they have in most countries. I believe as time progresses, the animal rights laws will become stricter.

I felt sick looking at that too.

Someone should tie HIM up and starve HIM nearly to death so HE can experience his own "art" FIRSTHAND. 😡

What is worse is that, if you read some of the comments on that website, some of the people are calling the art "effective" and "interesting".
There are also comments about how this is all overblown because "dogs die every day in Honduras."
They don't take into consideration that at least the dogs running around have the chance to catch or find food for themselves or that it could have been equally effective to bring a starving dog in and feed and care for it to show a transformation in the animal. And the people who find it interesting just sicken me. ::shudders::

Wow, this thread makes me want to throw-up. What's not to say that MY idea of art is tying this guy up and starving him to death (like others have said)? I mean, I wouldn't be murdering him, I'd just be utilizing his body for my artistic purposes... give me a freakin' break. 😡
