I have seen some talking about the importance of ECs. I do not have any. I have a wife and two kids that take up my time when I am not working on school. I usually take five or six classes a term and that does not leave time for clubs or things of that nature without giving up time with my kids. I do shadow a DO. How will schools view my lack of ECs? I place a high value on the time I spend with my family and am not sure what to about this. Should I just not worry about the ECs?

I personally think EC's play a major role if your grades arent "above the average". If you have superior grades I wouldnt worry about them too much. Especially if you are a non-trad...i'm sure they (adcom) dont expect you too join all these clubs/frats/ and volunteer 100+'s hours. Dont sweat it man. Do well on the MCAT's and you will be fine. 😉

I think so too and since you have been shadowing DO, I think that's enough.

Thanks for the info. I think my grades are average I'll end up with 3.3 or 3.4 in both overall and science. I haven't taken the MCAT yet so, I am hoping to do well (like everyone else that takes the test). thanks again and anymore opinions would be appreciated also.

I never had any ECs. For the non trad student ECs usually don't mean squat. ECs are for the single, traditional 18-22 y/o who has nothing else better to do with his time. You are married, a parent, and you probably work full time, I did. That's enough. If you maintain a solid GPA and do well on the MCAT you will be fine because you will show them that even with serious responsibility you can still hack an academic life. Hang out with your bambinos now, they need you more than some school club.
