What to expect the first year of optometry school?

I will be starting SUNY August 2016, what should i expect the first year of optometry school? At SUNY but also any other schools for general opinions?

First year will be mostly didactic courses, ranging from 4-8 hours a day in lectures and labs.
There will be some clinical shadowing and hands-on volunteer events, but mostly refresher lecture courses to get everyone with different undergraduate educations on the same page.

How much you'll study will depend on your science foundation; if you already have a solid grasp of anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, then it shouldn't be too difficult of a transition.
