What's everyone goin into, anyway?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Orthopaedic surgery. It's too much fun not to go into. Plus, as a past physics major, I find the inherent biomechanics emphasis intellectually satisfying; I've never had that in a job before.

Orthopedic surgery or Radiology (Interventional or Diagnostic)

Open to:
Urology
Rad Onc but I don't have any research and they require like 10 pubs:laugh:
Anes

Peds, specifically neonatology or pediatric critical care.

Neurosurgery...the brain completely fascinates me, the training not so much but I'll live 😀

I have no idea 😉

(See avatar, sn, blog....)

Definite R/O's:
Internal Medicine - of any subspecialty. Not my thing.
Psych - Negative.

Possible R/I's:
OB/GYN, if for some reason I have a change of heart on peds...

Not many surgeons in this group...

Gen Surg for me! 🙂

(and if I'm not too tired down the road...Pedi Surg!)

Finally!!

I don't actually mind retracting for hours because things going in the surgical field are way more interesting than any cramp or slight backache I might be feeling!

I love it all: patient inteaction, not too much patient interaction, countless hours of tedious perfecting of wherever-the-heck-you-are intra-abdominally, running traumas, running small bowel in search of a perf, everything scrubbed clean, ICU patient f/u's, emergent surg consults all over the hospital, laparoscopic anything, challenging you body beyond what you thought it could handle.... I love it!😀

DANG IT....I'm stuck in Fam Med right now and you just got me GOING!😉

You pretty much described day in life of a surgeon as wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am!

Hope you aren't that much of a heartbreaker. 😉

I'm going into....your mom
🙂

Obstetrics & gynecology. Big shocker, based on the username, I know.

Haha, not at all! I really enjoy the pace of it, that's all. I'm an old Pedi-ICU nurse, so the runnin' is my norm 😉

BTW, my hubby is an anesthesiologist, so I'm quite sympathetic to that field as well. I really hope to bring better communication btw the two (surgery and anesthesia). I saw an unfortunate amount of god-complex issues in the OR, but my way of thinking is--BOTH physicians are crucial to the case, so why not get along? 😀 (yes, I'm still quite idealistic!)

Probably Radiology at this point. I loved surgery, but I also know that I loved it because I got to do lots of fun stuff and didn't have bad hours. If I still have the procedure bug, I will go the interventional route which is basically becoming a surgical subspecialty anyway.

peds in da house! hopefully peds cards.

Peds clinic made me want to kill myself.

Super cute babies, but the 9-18 month olds would scream and literally piss their pants (girls and boys alike) when I used the otoscope on them. Yes, I know about stranger anxiety, but STILL, grow some ****in' balls kid! You're small and fragile, you don't want to annoy some strong grown up who might throw you off a 10th story ledge.

**** yo' heart disease, kid! And **** yo' couch!
