Quick question, i'm hoping someone can answer...I'm a resident of VT, who interviewed back on 10/10...but was told i wouldn't hear back from the school until xmas. Has anyone else heard back?..any residents? and does anyone know what the average MCAT for residents entering UVM is? UVM is my top top choice and this is my third time applying...and my first time interviewing...just really nervous...i don't want to leave this beautiful state!

check your online status page...they update everything there!

I'm a vermonter, too. My interview is coming up soon. Nervous!!

From what I've gathered thus far, they reviewed the august/sept interviews in october. Oct/Nov interviews will be reviewed in December, and so on. I don't know if they follow a different review schedule for in-state apps, but I could see why they might.

The average MCAT for matriculants is around 29 so in-state is probably a little lower I guess?

When you interviewed they told you it would be Christmas, so it will probably be then, or later...be prepared to wait longer and happy if you hear sooner!

Waiting is the worst...

good luck!

Thanks basket, although you're the only one to reply...at least you gave me a little hope. 🙂

Hey Spar---don't worry! I'm instate also, interviewed in early october and was told we'd hear very late december. I think applications in state are actually processed through a different committee. The average MCAT in state is a 28 I believe. The only residents I know who are already accepted all applied Early Decision. Good luck🙂

Hey-
My pleasure.
Sometimes SDN makes me feel so lonely...it seems there are only a handful of people here applying to UVM. But maybe that will help us!

Did you tell them that UVM was your top choice? I hear that can help...

Will you post when you find out, to give folks like me some hope?

-OneB

Max,
Yeah, i hope so. This is my third time applying to UVM and i've been trying for so long to get in. My MCAT was a 10B 9P 8V and i've done so much volunteer work its not funny. It just stinks that we have to wait so long, i think i've already had like four ulcers.

Basket,
I don't know if i directly told them they were my number one, but i work at Fletcher Allen and i interact with a lot of people who work at the med school, as well as in the admissions office. So i would think that they know that UVM is my number one. Good luck!!!

i'm bumping this thread because i interviewed first week in october and still no word and no status update. do we just have to wait till late december? just wondering...

I really really liked UVM and can't wait to hear back from them... (interviewed mid Oct)

It was weird tho, there was this SUPER annoying girl in my interview group, I hope she doesn't post on here.

Hi Spar,
Did you get interviews from UVM during your first two cycles? I think your persistence will get paid off.

Spar....I also think your persistance will pay off. One of my good friends applied last year, was waitlisted and then eventually rejected. He applied again this year early decision and was accepted right away after his interview in late September.

NovemberWhiskey....sucks that someone at your interview was annoying, I'm sure it was an out-of-stater...Vermonters aren't like that at all....we're pretty much a friendly group of people who will do things like get drunk and try to kiss people's hands, that type of thing🙂

Totally agree, vermonters were the nicest ppl I have met out of all the interview places I have been to (5 states!)...

Instater here, too. Man, sounds like I'll be waiting to hear back from UVM for a long time... My interview is on Dec 7, so I suppose I'll have to wait until February!

A friend of mine had an interview in Nov last year, and didn't hear back from UVM until early January. So, it sounds like the long wait is the norm!

Yeah I don't think i've ever met a vermonter who was mean...and i've lived here my whole life, minus college...but i'm back!! Even the cops are nice...a few months ago i saw one pull over a kid on a skateboard and he let him off with a warning...no...i'm serious...they're nice. Yeah i interviewed 10/10 and from everyone i've talked to including the admissions office and those very close...all quite often...the review committee meets the second week of december to review oct and nov interviews....not sure about dec interviews though. I've heard mixed reviews about that, some people say they review dec interviews, others say they do dec and jan the begining of feb...so i'm not sure.

someone added to the acceptance thread and he was accepted to vermont today. i'm scared to look at my status page, so i'm just writing here instead. a rejection before thanksgiving is difficult so i'm contemplating whether i want to check status now or later! good luck everyone!

grow a pair and check it now, it isnt going to change. :meanie: i havnt even heard a peep from those folks up by the berkshires.

Did you instaters see the front page article in the free press Vermont section this morning about the homophobic email from Col of Med students....? not something I was pleased to be reading about 🙁 ....you'd think medical students would have a little bit more maturity.

Max,
Funny you mentioned that, i actually heard about from some friends of friends at the med school, and have yet to read the article, so i hope i don't repeat stuff. But from what i heard its this common joke to amongst the kids at school to send out funny emails to the class when someone accidently leaves their email open in the student lounge. They also said that i guess it grew a lot of attention because the student who's email they used..wasn't out in the open about his preference...which my friends said made it worse..obviously...cause now he is forced to be. Just read the article...so i guess either the freepress messed up...or i was wrong...none the less its not to cool. I suppose its not a bad joke if they send out an email about something goofy and not controversal...but i don't see why any "smart" medical student would even consider touching on such an issue...huh..probably OOS. Don't worry max...vermont is still a cool place.

Help,
Did anything change? You need to let us know...

hey everyone! i was way scared to open the status page, but it was the same "hope you enjoyed interview day" message. i think the person who was accepted got the acceptance early in november and decided to just update today. so far no news...🙁

I'll second that!

I read the Free Press article this morning, and was disappointed as well. It's too bad that a few students decided to take things too far... Trust me, the incident does not reflect the general attitude of the student body. I spoke with a friend of mine who is currently in her second year, and she said that the e-mail, while it didn't directly offend her, could've easily been taken the wrong way. We'll see what actually happens to the students who composed that e-mail...

Does anyone know what the deal is with out of staters? Ive been complete since late september. Havent heard a word.

I read the free press...it's seems like it's not a VERY big deal. A practical joke gone bad. UVM is still my top choice 👍 Now if they could do something about the OOS tuition 🙄

Sadly i think we're all stuck in the wait-till-december-to-hear boat. Oh well at least we can all enjoy thanksgiving!

Yep, agreed.
I got a letter from UVM Col of Med in the mail yesterday in a really skinny envelope, which terrified me, but then I opened it and it was a book fee for an overdue book I took out from their library for work......
That's my story of the day to amuse you all🙂 Happy Thanksgiving Vermonters! (and everyone else)

Ahhhh....hahahaha...i probably would have like saved the letter till after thanksgiving or something...thats pretty funny actually.

To those of you waiting to hear from UVM post-interivew:

I recently had my interview there, and the admissions director told us that the committee was going to meet next week, and the goal is for them to have decisions (for those who have interivewed so far) made by the end of December.

So, it won't be too long!

i hope more of you get accepted. I only know one other person so far who has gotten accepted and MIGHT be going! :luck: :luck:

Ive been complete for 4.5 weeks, but have heard nothing since. Any OOS people still in this situation? (i had amcas issues and was late applying, obviously)

What is considered complete at UVM? I'm late...had everything in mid-Nov...the status says my recs are received, is that complete for UVM, or will I receive an official complete email? Just wondered! If that's complete, I've been waiting a couple weeks...

ya if they got your references...thats all they need. you probably in a lineup 🙂

For everyone post-interview, one of the docs who interviews that i work with said something about meeting next week too. So if you've already interviewed..you should hear back in a week or so. Can we say nervous? I interviewed the 10th and i'm in state. This is more nerve trying than it was waiting for mcat scores.

Yeah, I'm an OOS-er, I've been complete since the end of AUGUST (sigh), and yet nothing. I'm thinking the school is passing out it's love to the instaters first, and we get seconds😳

ya, if you are IN-state and you get an interview. there is a 85% chance you get accepted. Those are good odds 👍. I must have been really lucky to get an acceptance there this early (however I was waitlisted first) 😀

beaner-

I am OOS and complete mid october. My status page just changed to "you are in a pool of applicants that we may interview"....

are you on that status page also or are you "complete-all materials submitted"?

just seeing what others have on their status page

does anyone know if I have passed some screening...likliness of an interview?

good luck
dave

Yeah, I'm also hearing rumors at work (associated with UVM) that we could hear in about a week (at least instaters). But if you don't hear, don't worry, I met a couple third years the other day who had both been accepted in February after interviewing in late November🙂 I wonder if we all pass eachother in the Dana and don't even realize it....hehehe

they reject ppl pre-interview...so I say you have passed the intial screen 👍

Hey guys

I called and they said I was complete a while ago (this was about a month or so ago).

I checked the status and it says letters are NOT received. Did anyone have this kind of problem with them?

I spent last winter(or lack there of) in the library, and i am a frequent visitor of the lib. Is it sad that i sometimes miss it? Us vermonters are so cool.

For post-interview folks pinging around waiting room hell with me:
When I interviewed (late Nov)they said that they were hoping to have decisions out to Oct/Nov interviewees by the end of December, but that it's possible that they won't have time to discuss everyone before the holidays, in which case those files will be reviewed in early January. So we might be in for a longer wait than just a couple more weeks. They also said that very few people are offered straight acceptances. Instead, expect waitlist or reject, and then they will slowly accept people off the waitlist.

Isn't this fun!?!

I submitted my secondary back in Sep and have not heard a peep from them. I am OOS.

Has Vermont given out any interviews lately, I've checked the interview thread, it doesn't look like it. I'm in the possible-interview pool, I'm wondering if anyone has come off of that and received an interview recently?

It seems like theres been a bit of a lull in the process...

For those who already interviewed..was it just me or did that financial aid meeting scare the crap out of you?? I know the cost of living in vermont is cheaper than most places...but that OOS tuition is ridic! I loved the school other than that and would be happy to live there, but that was a huge turnoff...I really don't know how people can get loans and then be able to pay for it while in residency and such. Can loans get differed until after residency?

Just so everyone knows...i heard a "rumor"...which happens to be true that the committee at UVM met last night (tues) to review oct, nov and dec interviews. So here's to hoping christmas is white and green and yellow!😀

Have my fingers and toes crossed.
Did the "rumor" include how many interviewee apps they actually got through?
I heard they might not get through all of them until after the holidays...

waiting, waiting, waiting....

i don't know how you "got in" on the rumor, but thank you for letting us know. i was expecting a notice date of december 20th, but hopefully it'll come sooner! sony, how did you find out your acceptance? Is it just through status page?

good luck!

Hmmm, Spar I heard a similar rumor but it was that the committee actually didn't meet even though they were scheduled to, or something like that, and rescheduled the meeting for next week. However, mine was more of a rumor and less of a "rumor that happens to be true" so yours may be more correct🙂 Regardless, my status page hasn't changed from the whole "we'll review your file and let you know"---has anyones?

I got wailisted on Oct 20th, then accepted somewhere between Oct 20 -Nov2nd (when i checked my status page). In both cases the letters came 5 or so days after through the mail.

they update the status page first....so keep on checking that before you chase the mailman/mailwoman everywhere 😀

good luck everyone :luck: :luck:
